No, I wasn't being wise that time!. I actually didn't understand that you meant counterfeit.

You are among AM's wisest though ;)
I'm glad someone catches my slips, always happen as I'm in bed about to crash. I need an AM cut-off time

I find it interesting that one company can have so many issues with the FDA and always seems to have an excuse.

Not to mention people forgiving said company, or believing their excuses.

God I hate the FDA so much

It's not black and white.

More FDA regulation of the supplement industry would curb companies from spiking or underdosing products and ripping off consumers. However more FDA regulation could also stifle innovation, i.e. use of novel ingredients.

The whole food industry would be as bad as the supplement industry if it wasn't for the FDA. You might not like them trying to regulate your precious supplements but saying you hate them is pretty damn ignorant.

True. The FDA is run by people who make mistakes. People shouldn't be so hard on them when they don't even check to see if the bottle is legit or not before they put out a letter to the public. Nobody is perfect. We shouldn't be so hard on them.

Lol that whole food industry isn't too much better. Actually if you ask me it's pretty damn bad

The supplement industry reminds me of The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. Great book if any of you haven't read it. Violations and health concerns, just like the meat industry in the 1900s. Oh how times really haven't changed.

Decent read if you have time: FDA fraud and misconduct

For you maybe, but I don't really consider counterfeits from Brazil reflective of the actual parent company. Comparing that to finding body parts in meat production facilities is a bit of a stretch. Sort of like, comparing apples to cannon balls.

Well you see...cannonballs are round, and apples are sort of round.

Well I didn't want to sound as if the argument was REALLY reaching. ;)

I'm not speaking of USP Labs in particular. The amount of companies in this industry who have spiked products and flat out lied about health concerns is staggering. My correlation was for effect, but only in part. The REALITY of this industry, like many others, is that money is the ONLY concern. And due to a lack of regulation any Joe can make a product and put whatever they want in it... and a consumer will buy it. This has been going on for years. The laundry list of FDA violations both non-serious and very serious by supplement companies is testament to a large issue.

But you did.

Reports state otherwise. Not saying it isnt a problem but it certainly is not staggering compared to the food industry and taking in percentage of reports vs number of companies and products.

Thats not reality, thats opinion. Its impossible to judge the motivation of everyone.

And due to a lack of regulation any Joe can make a product and put whatever they want in it...

Untrue. Its not lack of regulation, its lack of enforcement.

The laundry list of FDA violations both non-serious and very serious by supplement companies is testament to a large issue.

Well that viewpoint would be valid if you believed every allegation made. Judging by the amount of supplements and the amounts of reports, it seems its a problem as with the food industry. I simply don't throw the baby out with the bathwater....but some people want a more dramatic view of the industry.

I am at a loss of what you are looking to happen. Prescription Vitamin C? The FDA wants exactly what you are touting right now. Complete control.

And here is the issue with your statement. No Joe cannot simply make a product and put whatever they want in there. That is already bar none tightly regulated. The DSHEA is pretty blatant on this. But if you or anyone else is buying from a shady company without a reputation, how is that the entire industries fault?

Here is the hiccup to the whole philosophy of letting the FDA oversee everything. There will still be shady pop ups that sell supplements. All you have to do is start a website and you can sell whatever you want. Roam the streets of New York, but a Louis Vatton handbag, that is tightly regulated but yet, i can still get some Oakley for 3 bucks.

The free market weeds out the shady pretty effectively. It would take all my fingers and toes to count how many companies I have seen come and gone with my time on AM, or barely limping along still.

And lets look at the overview of what the FDA controls.

The food industry is pretty lackluster. There is a new case of e.coli tainted products almost daily. The peanut butter incident that was global.

Drugs, if anyone can say with a straight face this tightly regulated industry is anything but an abomination to the American medical field is sadly mistaken. We have drugs that work with no side effects that are not available (CBD), and then we have one of the most potent liver killers available OTC in Acetominophen.

We can have this discussion in another thread. Since the original issue has been addressed I'll close this one down, but won't delete so anyone wondering about the issue can read it.
