I may take some time off soon. I'm mentally burning out on going everyday. I'm totally physically drained and it is getting harder to get it done. However the vain part of me says no!

Uhh... yeah... that's me verbatim.

I don't schedule time off, but I notice I need a week off every 2 months or so. I do notice I lose no strength and appear bigger visually!!!

Yeah I hear you on that. I have actually felt like this since I came OFF diet. But for some reason I'm just super tired and want to sleep. Now its not possible to nap here, but..

Problem is everyone gets mad at me when I miss days.

Yeah, lately I want to sleep and eat. Probably to make up for the deficit I put myself in.

I think for me there might be a health issue. I have dropped 5lbs since Oct 1st while totally not being on diet. I should be putting on weight. I'm super tired, can't concentrate and I'm getting a serious lactic acid feeling when i do train. Its pain all the time, as well as I'm getting weaker. My headaches are nagging and naseau is rolling in. Sucks big time. Add stress at home and I'm ready to blow!

I think im about to take my week off next week, my workouts have started getting sh1tty. Personally when I take a week off I always come back stronger and a lot more focused. Like many of you some times I just forget to cut back, but when I do and return to the gym I am usually pleasantly surprised.

it sounds like you need to recharge your battery.

Yeah, that's me. No doubt.

i usually take two days off a week, if i take off more then that, i would look like the stay pufft marshmallow man,for now i could not pull off a 1-weeker and get away with it!:pizza:

im so focused on hitting the gym and working out i never think about resting. the only time i rest is when im sick or injured. right now im currently injured with arthritis in my shoulder and a pulled hamstring. doc said two weeks off.

Im still young at only 19, but i can definately tell a difference when taking a week off! Actually, two weeks ago i was feeling lazy, trying to skip lifts and not pushing it, so i took thanksgiving week off, and have felt amazing this week!

When I was younger I only worked out only 3 days a week and never took time off for several years with no problem.

Now I am working out 5 days a week and I know I shouldn't but have worked out 7 days a week once.

Recently I started working out again 9 months ago. And now I seem to have strained the brachioradialis muscle. It is not that bad I feel it when I do pull ups.

So I started looking into it and decided to start taking a week off every 6 weeks. Starting now so I can rest this muscle strain.

And every 5 days in a row I am gonna take 2 days off. Never working out the same muscle twice in those 5 days.

When I have taken time off I have actually gained on my lifts or stayed the same. I do have question though-> should I keep with 30-40 min cardio on this week safely, or is this going to be too much on my "off" week. When I took a week off recently I just took the week TOTALLY out of the gym; but I want to keep my bf going down and keep the cardio going as I tend to regress there easily.

cardio without weights even for a short period sounds extremely catabolic if you are in a calorie restriction phase to drop fat.

our bodies are efficient survival machines, so it will quickly think that it doesn't need the strength and burn muscle protein for energy while saving your fat for the famine.
you need to keep your body thinking it needs to keep muscle to survive given the strenuous tasks you require of it. then you'll get mostly fat to melt away

i say train hard, then take some rest from everything (weights & cardio) if you need some time to recover.

A week seems like a lot if you're not injured but whatever works for you I guess. I usually don't even take a day off unless I'm going somewhere but I only do like 3-4 different lifts each day. Keeping a constant state of low stress recovery seems to work the best for me.

agree with the posts
i take a week every 2 mos or so

but how long can someone stay off till muscle starts atrophying?

my trainer said 3 mos or so

I thought it would be sooner actually

any thoughts?

just curious
thnx

boo

In the time I take a week off, I don't stop going to the gym, I just go in and do some cardio about 3-4 times during the week, and give my body a rest from the weights, of course I'll throw some abs in there too.

Personally I'm rarely inactive at all. But I usually train hardcore for about six weeks and take a week off. Muscles tend to recover alot faster than joints, tendons and ligaments. I never want to walk with a cane so I take that in consideration. More often than not, when I return to the iron, I'm stronger than i was before. Consequently I've NEVER had an injury.
