Nyquil Caps for Sleep. How "toxic/bad for you"

Just how toxic and what ill-effects come from "regular use" of a half dose (one cap instead of two) say 5x/week.

It works wonders for me to add this to me pre-sleep regimen.

I have dilligently tried everything else health-wise and ritual-wise, trust me.

1) 2 caps of PowerFULL
2) 1G MagCitrate
3) Cissus
4) Ingest Zero carbs after 6pm (other than dinneer greens)
5) Go to bed at exactly 10pm every night
6) Utilize a white noise machine
7) Sleep in a blacked out, ZERO-lights room
8) Turn the AC "cooler" at night
9) I train in the AM so no issues there
10) My only stim use is ONE USP OEP @ 6am prior to morning work out.
11) NO TV watching in my bedroom

It is hit or miss. Some times (4-5 out of 7 nights) I sleep and ther other few noights, I'm staring at the ceiling until midnight.

Yes, I know there is an underlying issue but until I figure out WTH it is, I still need my sleep!!

***The USPLabs PowerFull + Cissus combo worked EXCELLENT for years. I guess I have finally acquired a tolerance.

***Zinc does the opposite for me - makes me wired!

***Benedryl does not work as well for me and it's a drug anyway and defeats the purpose.

***I've tried Theanine, Chamomile and Tryptophan along with all the popular sleep aids on this forum. They relax me but I do not fall asleep on them!

PowerFULL was the best. So another GH-releasing type supplement is not what I seek.

I am NOT happy I am "forced" to take Nyquil; hence the thread.

So, please limit your responses to the question in the subject line. "Nyquil Caps for Sleep. How "toxic and bad is this stuff for you""

Thanks. :(

I feel your pain, honestly, But Im not sure what you're looking for, of course its bad for you, the active ingredients acetominophen, dextromethorphan, doxylamine and pseudoephedrinealone have been associated with abuse, liver damage and psychotic episodes. Common side effects include diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, anxiety or nervousness and changes in sleep, allergic reactions such as rash; hives; changes in heart rhythm; dizziness, seizures and hallucinations; changes in vision and jaundice.

Acetominophen is an analgesic for pain relief and to reduce fever.

Dextromethorphan is used to prevent coughing and has a mild effect in reducing pain.

Doxylamine succinate is an antihistamine that reduces allergic reactions and causes drowsiness.

Pseudoedphedrine is an effective nasal decongestant, normally combined with an antihistamine.

You say you've tried everything: Valerian Extract, phenibut gaba, melatonin, plus all the things on the Nutra website?

http://www.nutraplanet.com/category/health-wellness/sleep-aid/

You might be "safer" going with just what makes you sleep from the nyquil, which Im guessing is Doxylamine succinate, which is actually the single ingredient in unisom.

Excellent point on the Unisom vs Acetominophen!! Thanks. I will try NEXT until I can correclty find a natural remedy or cause of my issue.

Valerian - made me relaxed but no sleep. Melatonin -useless for me, then felt like crap in the AM.

I have not tried Phenibut as I (perhaps misinformed) have thought the tolerance build up is FAST and quickly rendered useless and some times, causes the opposite (excitablity and anxiety)

Regular use of Nyqyuil is not a healthy or safe choice as stated above. If you are having heavy problems with sleep I'd go see a doctor. Not necessarily to get a prescription drug but jut to get checked out. If there are underlying mental issues you may want to see a specialist. Insomnia is a medical condition and I would want real medical opinions.

You are better of just buying a sleep aid with doxylamine succinate in it which is what actually makes nyquil make you sleep. The other parts of it are superfluous from the point of view of sleep. However, even this can lose it's effect, for instance myself it works similar to how benadryl works for you just makes you dizzy for an hour or so.

Try the dream tea from primordial performance. It's not 100% but it's so far the most effective thing I've used.

Yes, exactly. We had a thread on this sometime ago that was pretty informative in regard to OTC sleep aides. IMO, doxylamine succinate is by FAR the more effective in sleep induction. The one negative aspect in using it is the anticholinergic "hang-over" effect the next day. Another downside of the anticholinergic effect is the possibility of palpitations (due to parasympathetic nervous system inhibition) or cycoplegia. Based on my own experimentation over the years, that only occurs though when you've dosed it too high. The average person shouldn't need anymore than 12.5mg to elicit sleep induction. When I take 25mg I notice these side effects.

Our dream tea is also a very good product for helping deal with this issue. It offers a very nice calming and relaxing state when used. I frequently use this as night to help me calm on days that I'm "wound-up."

If you don't want to use benadryl, be careful with unisom. There are two versions of unisom. One has the same active as benadryl, as dose advil pm, etc. As a matter of fact all of the "unisom" brands on the shelf here are exactly the same as benadryl, and actually worse because they're 25mg caps, where as you can get benadryl in 12.5.

No doubt it works, just saying be careful which one you grab.

acetaminophen ( tylenol, aka the main ingredient in nyquil) is proven to be liver toxic. this is why life extension has been trying to get it banned for years.

benadryl ( diphenhydramine) is not.

i would find some herb.

that would be the best option here
