Just curoius, noticed it last week at school was sitting cross legged went to stand up and my right leg gave out, thought it was from sitting to long? Happend 2times this weekend, was walking the track and nearly fell when my right leg just gave out..........

Now i know with lupus, it can affect the joints, muscles up to this point its been strictly joints...???

I know I should mention it to my lupus dr, but i also know that will lead to tests, more tests and frankly i am sick of being a guinea pig.................

Suppliment maybe>?I know i will have to go to the dr, but wanted to prolong it till my next visit...In may..

haha your falling over randomly? That sucks man... and you say you have lupus...

hmm well if it is a problem then you should definitely see a doctor...I dont know what supplements have to do with your legs giving out...they might help them get stronger, but when your legs just fall its not always about strength.

I would try more stretching, and less joint intensive cardio, and some joint lubricant meds. If that doesnt help see a doc.

happens all the time to me when I stand up from sitting in an awkward position. It's caused by restricted blood flow and it's temporary. nothing to worry about.

What is your current supplement regimen? I would start taking a good distilled fish oil if you are not already doing so. I use Trader Joes Molecularly Distilled Omega-3 Fatty Acids. 1 soft gell contains 300mg EPA and 200mg DHA and 1 iu vitamin E. 90 count bottle is like $8. The optimal range for both safety and effectiveness in most healthy individuals is 1-4 g of EPA/DHA daily, so 2-8 caps. I use 4, my wife only takes 2 and she noticed an increase in circulation along with other positives such as healthier hair. $.02

Doesn't happen when you are "walking the track" though.

Dont see anything funny about falling over and yes i do have lupus.....Mine has always been more joint pain, now i think its moving to muscle devlopment......

Hm.. well I didnt mean to imply that i thought it was funny.. Im 17 and say haha before every sentence...

If it's joint pain try a joint support supplement, and as for muscles? I (im 17, lol dont listen to me) would take more protein, work out less intensly, and stretch more. As for supplementation.. dont ask me

Have you been vomiting or using stimulants lately? I had been vomiting, and used lipo-6(old version). This caused me to have low blood potassium which caused numbness in my arm. If that's the case, then just increase you potassium intake in your diet, and keep a drink with electrolytes on hand. If this doesn't help, I highly reccomend you seeing a doctor. Good luck with this.

I frankly hate going to the doctor whenever I have a problem because they *never* seem to be able to find out what it is - it's so frustrating. So I totally see your point there. (I waited 6 months through pain before just seeing the doctor last week just because I thought it was either a certain supplement I was taking, or a pinched nerve that was causing a problem with my toe and hip/quad).

Ironically, the pain I felt through my hip to my knee caused me to collapse (somewhat) to the ground a few times. Anyways, fearing I was getting some type of arthritus, the Dr. said she thought my "hip" problem wasn't a hip problem, but that one of my muscles was way too tight. She thinks the toe is a pinched nerve.

What was the point of my story? Oh yeah - my self diagnoses was wrong. It wasn't any previous supplements (X-Factor) and it probably isn't arthritus. I'm glad I went, and I'm glad they FINALLY had an idea of what was wrong (I have a bad track record with dr's).

My initial thought for you was blood flow related. But then I remembered you had lupus, and if I can't diagnose my own problems 100%, I'm definitely not going to take a chance with someone over the internet. You're a very sweet girl, and I've read your posts before (I'm thinking that both the lupus and the recent Jeep purchase is not a coincidence to a different person who was on here), and I'd hate for anything bad/worse to happen to you. I'm not saying that there are people out there that deserve bad things to happen to them (although, sadly I do think that), but you are definitely not one of those people, and it makes me sad to hear good people like you having bad things happen.

So my advice is to go the the doctor - the stupid doctor who will poke and prod you and most likely not find anything. Sometimes time heals things in our body (cuts). Sometimes time destroys our body (cavities in teeth). Waiting until your next appointment might make things worse. Just because of your medical history, I think the stakes are a little higher with you when anything out of the ordinary happens. But honestly, if anyone else falls down a few times while walking, regardless of their health, I would recommend visiting the Dr.

Here's hoping it's something simple like a pinched nerve or too tight of a muscle.

Since you are looking for suggestions that may help until you see your Doc,
I suggest trying two really inexpensive supplements to determine whether the episodes you experienced were due to poor or restricted circulation:

1) 300 mg of potassium daily. This comes out to about 3 servings daily (99 mg. of actual potassium is the maximum amount allowed in an OTC tablet). Usually it's in the form of 500 - 600 mg. potassium gluconate tablet.

2) 1 capsule of hawthorne berry extract at bedtime (400 - 500 mg).

Both can be found on-the-cheap at Wal-Mart, most big-chain supermarkets, and drug stores for an estimated combined cost of $15. If in fact they don't help with your leg, at least you'll gain the benefits of their positive effects on blood pressure and overall circulation.

Regardless, when you see your doctor, tell it all, including what supplements you take, and the effect (if any) they have. As frustrating as the possibility of additional tests may be, your Doc has been and will continue to be your most valuable ally in your battle with lupus.

when you have nothing to say .. why not try saying nothing at all?

It is I who just bought a midnight blue jeep rubicon...LOVE IT :)

Thanks I called the dr today, going next week as with work I cant get there any sooner...(weird ass hours between 3 jobs and school)....

Your a sweetie:) and your post made me laugh

UPDATE:

Was at a wake tonight took 2 hours to get through the line, a 22 yr old beautiful girl who had cancer..makes me cry......I was standing with some friends and all of a sudden my leg went dead, I mean I felt nothing, went to move it and thank god a male friend was there I literally fell into his arms.......I had to sit and rub my leg, talk about embarrassing....annoying, and freaking frustrated.....

Calling tomorrow to get in this week....

I agree-- I think you're gonna have to talk to your doctor about it. That could be really dangerous if it happened while you were driving... :(

I'm glad you're making your appointment, because you would be surprised at the number of injuries/deaths that occured because people were afraid of being embarrassed.

Most people's first instinct when they are choking (eg: food in restaurant), is to run away from everyone and be alone. This is the worst thing that anyone can do. If you are choking, you must make sure people are around. Nobody can perform the Heimlich or phone 911 if you've locked yourself into the bathroom alone.

So what I'm saying is that while I understand the situation is embarrassing, I'm sure everyone will agree that it's better to be embarrassed and seek medical help than the other scenario.

Besides, that guy probably liked it, as it's not everyday a cute girl falls into their arms...literally. :)

Good color - same as mine (not a rubicon, but a '97 TJ Sport). 33" tires if that helps it be more manlier. LoL

Definitely get in to see a Doc TC. A friend of mine with Lupus swears that Ester-C really helps alleviate the symptoms..reduced swelling et cetera. It couldn't hurt I suppose.

Give Me More Negative Rep Points! Now
I Obviously don't know jack **** about anything at all, so negative rep me after every goddamn post alright?
Does that sound like a good idea to you? ****ing lawyer.

I would chill out if I were you.. if not take you adolscent attitude and run straight out the front door of AM and don't come back..

okay, i'll relax... you should just look at the situation from a 17 year old point of view.. if thats possible.

Might be easier than you think... but also, look at from a majority of the members here. If you are going to hang out with the adults, act like the adults..

The transition from the teenage years (eg: 17) to adulthood are tough and sometimes confusing.

Many of the things that teenagers and their peers consider to be "cool" are quite "uncool" when they become adults. Purposely slacking off, making fun of people because of circumstances beyond their control, making fun of people because of circumstances within their control, showing disrespect to authority, etc. While many youth consider putting down their peers as a sign of friendship, adults don't view it that way unless it truly is harmless. (ie: medical conditions are usually off-limits).

Just remember that many 4 year old kids are "disgusted" by the opposite sex, even though adults tell them that their feelings will change in time. So I'm afraid I do believe this is an "adult" board, and you will have to do your best to view and treat other's through the eyes of adults and not as a 17 year old. You will understand as you get older (every adult was a teenager at one point in their lives).

This is not directed at just 1 person, but just a general statement to anyone that does not treat certain posts with respect. There is a time and place for fun and games, however, I would consider this thread to be more along the lines of something serious and to lend support to a very decent human being.

Always allow people to lean on you in times of need, as everybody will always need the favor returned at one point in their life.
