No appetite and little money but want to gain weight

Hey guys, I'm about 160 lbs give or take my daily weight fluctuation(mostly -2/3 lbs). I really want to gain some weight but I've been struggling forever. I often skip meals, eat small snack, or eat little meals. I know this eventually comes down to self control but my biggest problem is I lack appetite fairly often and I don't know what calorie/protein dense foods that are fairly cheap that I can eat. I have a decent amount of food available to me but most aren't all that calorie dense and I simply don't have the appetite to eat all the other stuff.

To get to the point, I need tips and advice to help me gain weight, increase weight, and increase my appetite while keeping the cost down.
Any and all feedback is welcome, thanks ahead of time.

People often swear by a Gallon of Milk a day

Whole Milk 1 Gallon

Calories 2,368
Total Fat 128 g
Saturated fat 73.6 g
Polyunsaturated fat 8 g
Monounsaturated fat 32 g
Cholesterol 384 mg
Sodium 1680 mg
Potassium 5,152 mg
Total Carbohydrate 192 g
Dietary fiber 0g
Sugar 192 g
Protein 128 g

Should do the trick for around 3 dollars a day

I tried half a gallon and it upset my stomach to much and I cant just carry around a gallon of milk around with me in school to drink through out the day haha. Thanks for the input though.

Hmmm Im going to sound like broken record Im sure but theres no way around eating more. Try hot sauce and other things to mix it up.

Should be able to eat Chicken and Rice 6 times a day for around 10 dollars. I don't know how to get cheaper than that

I know eating more is the main problem but how can I increase my appetite?

Well Im probably not the one to ask. Im roughly 245 and Ive always had a problem eating too much. That being said, I feel you should look at eating the same way you look at training. Train yourself to eat and stay dedicated. Start by eating one extra meal a day for a few weeks and then up it. Take it slow and eventually it will be second nature. Remember you body isn't used to being fed all the time. Give it a chance to adjust.

Honestly, just hitting the weights makes me hungry as hell all day long. I know when I took Anabeta it increased my appetite. Unless you're taking appetite suppressants then just working out hard should be plenty of stimulation for your appetite.

My medication suppresses my appetite.

A gallon of milk a day works wonders.. or half gallon of chocolate. If appetite is an issue, pick up some ghrp6. About 10 minutes after pinning, you'll be starving.

White potato's, white rice, and beef. Specifically beef with a higher fat content. Carbs and higher fat proteins will always help get me big. Its not all about protein. Also some pot for the appetite.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Well I'm not sure about throughout the day, but I'm never hungry in the mornings. What helps me is eating starchy foods before bed or drinking a fair amount of milk. I usually eat enough to where I'm pretty full before bed and wake up super hungry. As for the rest of the day doing legs usually makes me pretty hungry try increasing your leg days, and try drinking a beer or two that usually increases my appetite. I know thats not extremely healthy, but if you're trying to bulk it couldn't hurt to try.

What kind of medication if you don't mind me asking? I only ask because if it's adderall...talk to your doctor about switching to Vyanse. Definitely a healthier alternative to addy and it doesn't suppress appetite as much as addy.

White rice with chicken and a load of bbq sauce!! Just try and stick to 4 good solid meals and later you just add like the other guy said , and you should eat because you have to nt because you want to

Simply forcing more food down your throat is not the answer. If you are not hungry, then you are not creating an anabolic environment in the first place. Find out what you need to do to create growth and then hunger shouldnt be an issue. What does your current diet and training program look like?

Dude I'm with you I suffer from lack of appetite
Here is my advice, and forget that eat when your hungry bs...
1) see a nutritionist tell him your problems
2) discuss with him nutritionally dense foods that minimize the amount of "bites" you have to take. So pasta not rice, sweet potatoes. Quinoa, etc discuss with the nutritionist
3) discuss incorporating fats into your noodles for extra calories
4) discuss shakes they are easy way to get calories. The shakes I make are about 800 calories
5) make your food... And find a way to eat it all before bed

A few TBSP of extra virgin olive oil a day.

Eat as much as you can, finish with a glass of milk

Eat red meat, pork and the like. Pork chops are CHEAP when you snag then on sale. High fat red meat - rib eyes, don't get lean ground beef.

Have a big huge breakfast this will increase your hunger throughout the day.

Use peanut butter, bananas, honey, chocolate syrup for chocolate milk, drink juice, whole eggs, ice cream, oats.

For a snack do a homemade weight gain shake:

Ice cream, olive oil, steel cut oats (pulverize first), honey or chocolate syrup, whole milk and a banana

Trail mix, carry a ziplock full in your backpack or car. 350 calories per half cup - I keep it in my desk at work and chow on it all the time!
And olive oil/coconut oil. easy to add 1-2 tbs to lunch/dinner and that's at 140 per spoonful.

im an ectomorph all the way. it took me until i was 21, two cycles and an ungodly amount of food to break 220 pounds.. at 6'5, 220 is still skinny. so i feel your pain. i dont lack an appetite. however, its really hard for me, and really any human, to consume the amount of food needed for me to stack on weight. what i do to get in extra calories is buy trail mix in bulk. trail mix has a high caloric content. lots of healthy fats amd omegas. its easy to eat and doesnt take up much room in the gut. also, at night, i make a shake that brings in over 1000 calories. 2-3 scoops of protein (i use carnivore bc its easier on my stomach) WHOLE milk, not that ***** 2% crap, a banana, scoop of yogurt, and (heres your calories) 4 tablespoons of coconut oil. coconut oil is 130 calories per tablespoon. its healthy fats as well.

also, carbs are DIRT cheap. white or brown rice is a few bucks per 10 pound bags.

this! perfect really.olive, coconut, avocado oil. all champs in the ecomorph world lol

Couple tablespoons of olive oil and a handful of peanuts would add almost 500 cals a day to your diet. The oil is good over rice, chicken, etc. Double it and you have 1000 cals.

If your appetite is poor, getting more protein is trickier, since you reach satiety more quickly. But as long as your protein needs are being met, fats are the easiest way to up food intake.

If you are on a budget Pork Chops are must. I use them and my budget is fine. and when the diet calls for "lean" I just cut the fat off a pork chop. Heck you get 2 thick pork chops for $4.50 that weigh over 1lbs... Its a no brainer.

I don't know what your program looks like but try a full body split. A full body workout 3 or 4 days a week really stimulates my appetite.

For cheap bulk food there are a lot of great options. Eat a ton of eggs !!!!!!! Thanks to the American diet liver is very cheap and a great bulk food. Pork chops are great and cheaper than most meat. Potatoes, rice amd oatmeal are great cheap carbs. When i was low on cash for food i really only bought chicken and beef when it was 50 percent off.

No appetite...i cant even comprehend how thats possible. Learn to love eating
Sometimes it's hard to get in the cals to grow with a fast metabolism

I'm running pbold and dmz and before i wasnt a really big eatter either but with pbold its making me a bottomless pit. haha.

I think shakes are a good solution to supplement your appetite

Peanut butter &/or Nutella (on fruit/graham crackers).

That Nutella! I could eat a whole jar in one sitting, easy, 1 spoonful at a time.

I used to have a problem with no apetite after i was a fat 260, cut down to 185, now i eat chicken pretty much every day, at times it seemed like i had to make myself eat. But i agree, adter a while you do it second nature. Since the addition of protein supplementation, my current weight is at 204 and my lift strength has definitly gone up.
Try consuming a source of protein when you first wake, i used to skip breakfast and that can make you sluggish during the day.
Since i was often on a budget i rotated beans, rice, chicken, and lots of frozen broccoli. Hope this was helpful!

I know eating more is the main problem but how can I increase my appetite?

Lexamill (lexapro). When I started 5 years ago I weighed 105lbs @ 5ft 8..My doctor prescribed me 20mg of lexapro. It increases appetite 10 folds. Now I'm 5ft 9.5 @ 210 lbs.Go to your doctor and tell him you have been experiencing depression for the past few months he will prescribe some

What's in your shakes to make it 800 calories?

When I bulk I have a shake that contains 800 calories aswell.I add a cup of oats which adds 350cals boosting the calories to 1150

When you think about it from just a pure scientific standpoint (with basic words), if you are trying to gain muscle mass, you are essentially trying to create something that isn't there. Or more specifically, break it down, and repair it with increase. You cannot make something out of nothing. You may want a castle and only have a pile of bricks, it just won't happen- not matter how many times you stack them. It doesn't need to be top-shelf, organic, and highly-priced. But you need to be eating more calories than you burn in a day (including the ones burned during the workout). If you are desperately strapped for cash, complex carbohydrates will carry the load of your calories - but as you increase your spending on food, think about protein. Building your body may need to take a back-burner to building your bank account right now :poke:

Yup! There's plenty of inexpensive ingredients you can add to your shakes to help bulk. Natty Peanut butter, dry oat's, coconut oil, whole milk, greek yogurt , egg's...to name a few!

I agree with the guy that said to treat your diet the same as your training. I had gotten away from bodybuilding for a long time due to my alcoholism. When I got sober I couldn't hardly eat more than once a day but I really wanted to get back into bodybuilding. I would just slowly force myself to eat a little more each day even when I wasn't hungry. In just a few months time I'm back to wasting every few hours and roughly 5-6 meals a day and protein shakes, creatine, and bcaa's. My appetite has also greatly increased and I find that no matter how much I eat I'm hungry again within 2-3 hours. I feel and look like a new man in just a few months. I've went from 160lbs in July to 227lbs in December and I've really only been eating and training properly since early October so most of this has happened in 3 months. I'm 36 and haven't lifted regularly since I was like 23 so I didn't think "muscle memory" would be much help but something is working for me. I looked at photos of me at 23 when I'd been lifting for 3-4 years and did a couple experimental low dose steroid cycles and I pretty much look as good already as I did back then. I have more belly fat now but I'm going to work on cutting up in Feb/Mar. Best of look to everyone with eating issues but for me just making yourself eat a little more each day and hitting the weights regularly was key. The creatine has probably helped and it's so cheap now. Ordering from a place like Bulk Supplements you can do a high dose of creatine for probably less than $10/month.
Good luck fellas!
