Hey everyone.
I have been living on my street for the past 20 years. I have never had an issue with anyone on my street or anyone really in general. I'm not a confrontational guy and often at times back down when I probably shouldn't.
Recently I adopted a dog who I take on walks every day. Now I'm not sure how it is elsewhere but where I live you have houses, a front lawn, followed by sidewalks, and then a little strip of lawn, and then followed by the road. From the sidewalk on is considered town property, but as a homeowner it is your responsibility to maintain the sidewalk and little strip of lawn that connects to the road.
The guy three houses down from me has four times now aggressively confronted me about my dog peeing and pooping on his little side strip of lawn. He claims that other dogs will smell my dogs pee and poop and also go to the bathroom there. Now, first off I always pick of my dogs crap so it's not like I leave it lying there, and secondly I'm not going to stop my dog from peeing if he has to go.
Yesterday after him once again confronting me, I completely lost it and flipped out on the guy. We screamed and argued for about a good 15 minutes before he made the gesture to apologize, because I think he saw I was ready to kill him. I know I have every right to walk my dog and as long as I don't let him go to the bathroom on the guys front lawn, as well as pick up after my dog there is nothing he can really do.
Just curious on how I should handle any future run ins with the guy? I suppose I can walk my dog on the other side of the street to keep the peace, but I really don't want to back down on this one.
Thanks.
