Muscle Building while Fat Burning

If I were to run (fasted) in the morning, and strength train in the afternoon, but keep my diet strict and clean, could I potentially gain muscle while burning fat?
Because if you gain muscle, isn't your metabolism higher, so you burn more calories as a result? And if you burn enough calories, can't you lose fat while gaining muscle?
Or could I just take a fat burner while building muscle?

I've read many times that it's impossible to gain muscle while losing fat, but I need to hear it on my own thread to take it into full acknowledgement.

In order to gain muscle, one needs a surplus of calories. To lose fat, a deficit is needed. One can minimize how much fat is gained by only eating at a small surplus, 200 cals over maintanence versus 500 for example, but fat will still be gained. Just at a slower rate. Unless you are running anabolics, it is almost impossible or not likely at all to do both at the same time. Maybe if one is new to lifting, but even then, it can be difficult/almost impossible. Also, do not think of a diet as clean or dirty. Food is fuel there is no such thing as clean and dirty foods.

Thank you for clearing that up for me

Yea i would agree to do both at the same time is truely hard. And to be huge and extremely low body fat is not achievable without anabolics in my opinion. But eatting the right foods at the right time having a good workout plan and be consistent for your goals will get you in the right direction. Build muscle and then burn some fat to get lean.

I would opt for the 500. Maybe I'm just a glutton for the increase in numbers on my lifts. If you're afraid of fat then you need not be a bodybuilder. Be a fitness model and accept slow progress .

If you're natural. ...Push yourself and stop over thinking. Diet, get lean, and reap the rewards. Muscle memory has your back.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I have one questions though:
Through my time of working out, I've gone up on weights (for example, my bench press increases), yet I've still been losing weight and body fat. Can someone explain this?

You're getting fit. That's it.

If you're a noobie that helps too.

Once you go down to 10% bodyfat (for most people ) those strength increases go away. Also...if you lose a significant amount of weight ( 10 20 for shorter people and 30 to 40 if you're over 6 ft)
It will decrease strength. But hopefully that was fat loss anyway so rejoice in being lean

Definitely not lean yet. I'm 24% body fat I believe. But my strength is going up while my fat is going down.
I just wanted to see if this was normal, or if I was going to screw something up in the long run.

It is normal for people over about 12 % to do this. Results varied from person to person. Enjoy the ride.

My best recomp results come from eating extremely clean, cutting all the processed foods and hitting the barbell heavily. Squats deads, presses etc. At maintenace cals ive gained on my upper body and leaned out.

clean eating is the name of the game for me. no doubt about that.

You know especially for natural bodybuilders, food is our most powerful anabolic. We need our nutrition completely dialed in. Cheats, processed foods and preservatives can really mess things up in my experience even when i hit my macros... But as always to each his own.

I think recomp is possible, it is just a much more long term goal. Most people want to lose fat/gain muscle as quickly as possible.

I'd def say recomp is possible depending on BF an diet. I was 23% and now down to 18% but I've inly lost about 8 lbs and can clearly see that my muscles are getting bigger. However as many others are saying once your bf gets lower this changes cause you don't have excess anymore. At this point I think it becomes more of a one or the other situation. That's my opinion and experience.

I can absolutely agree with that as well. I just have enough fat left that I can still slowly lose it over time ;) At least that's my hope!

so let me geuss here... you were 180 pounds and dropped to 172??

ok so you are down 9 pounds.. 9 pounds from 218 is a 4.13% drop.. thus its perfectly inline with your bf percentage drop.. by going with that we can state that theres only a loss of adipose tissue and no gain in skeletal muscle.. i think what you perceived as new muscle is actualy just more definition in your muscles thus creating the illusion of added muscle
