HRS is made up of both short and long chain carbohydrates, so it has the advantages of BOTH simple and complex carb sources. It enters the bloodstream faster than glucose, but because of the different chain lengths it doesn't spike insulin like maltodextrin or dextrose.

The HRS short chain carbs that get absorbed very quickly, and thus will raise insulin levels enough to prevent catabolism and lower cortisol levels. But the insulin spike will not be so severe that it leads to body fat accumulation, as could potentially happen when huge amounts of glucose polymers are absorbed at one time. HRS is different because in addition to the short chain carbs, it also has longer chain metabolites that are absorbed at the brush cell border (after the short chains have already been absorbed) along with electrolytes and water. Thus it provides both the immediate impact on insulin and a more sustained impact over time.

The company who makes this product primarily markets it as an oral rehydration solution (ORS) for people with dehydration from acute or chronic diarrhea. They often can't absorb any food at all, and glucose-based drinks aren't effective or just make them worse. The rice-based carb, however, gets rapidly absorbed and doesn't seem to have the side effects (gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort) of the glucose drinks. This is significant for atheletes as well.

You see the rehydration quality of a carbohydrate is measured by its OSMOLALITY. Dextrose and maltodextrin have osmolality measurements of 350, whereas HRS has a measurement of <235! That is almost 70% better than dextrose, glucose or maltodextrin.

Muscle glycogen is massively depleted during your workouts. By using the HRS pre and post workout you will be combating fatigue better than dextrose and maltodextrin can do. Not only that, but HRS contains natural electrolytes. Electrolytes in turn speed up the absorption of amino acids into the bloodstream and cells where they can be used for muscle growth.

Because there is a direct correlation between the rate at which amino acids enter the blood stream and muscle growth, HRS theoretically will result in greater muscle growth than dextrose or maltodextrin. Several studies show that the faster amino acids and creatine enter the muscle cell, the greater the muscle growth.

In summary:

Better absorbed
No huge insulin spikes that can lead to fat gain or sluggishness
Better Hydration
Contains natural electrolytes
Shuttles nutrients into muscles faster than other carb sources
Theoretically will lead to faster muscle gains than other carb-based products

Beverly International used this in their MASS MAKER if im not mistaken, but stopped when they changed their labels and its really sad too. NEWAYS.....it was the poo my friends. I only took one serving post workout and before bed.Values for me were 30/55/5 (p/c/f) and it put some good lean size on me and Mass Maker tasted awsome. I got vanilla and added 5 frozen strawberries in 10oz skim milk and it was a treat.

*I was also adding 25gr Hydrolized whey isolate Post w/o. I imagine about 25 or 30 grams f carbs were from the Hydro. Rice Syrup

HRS is awesome. I have used it for a few years. I buy it in bulk. It mixes well and has almost no taste. I use it post and during workout. I also use it during soccer. No bloating. I am surprised more companies don't include it in their supps. Maybe because it is costly compared to malto and dextrose. Good job Omega!
