Dude, I know what you mean... but I LOVE to train myself into the ground. It's like a drug... and as body chemistry or physiology would show with the release of all those adrenal hormones it's probably very true... But I love it.
My current routine for supplementary back is
Lat pulls 4 sets double drop/pronated pull ups till failure
Close grip cable rows triple drop set/meadow rows till failure
Single arm lat pulls/chest press machine
Meadow Rows for 6-8 reps/Hammer curls/DB curls.
Cardio
Pull ups till failure
Core 15mins.

Nice man.

Also, to add to your earlier point, it keeps us sane. I enjoy people watching me DL 450lbs.

That's a mean DL... I sadly, cannot dead that amount just yet. I topped off at 405 last year. But with training being compromised I dropped it all the way down to 325 or so... I could probably Sumo Deadlift around 395 still though.. conv is a bit weaker atm.
 
Quick health update:

After finding I have a Hiatal hernia I stopped eating so much at a single meal.
Since increasing my training volume though my need for carbs to keep my 1.5hr volume sessions up I have increased my carbs... sadly I think it sparked up my candida (or what seems to be symptoms of it). Unfortunately, I'm going to have to switch back to a lower carb/lower volume type work load for a little while.. which I absolutely hate.. I did 5/3/1 just the lifts before.. and it was so unfulfilling.... we shall see.
