Manipulating my insulin and stimulating HGH

Alright, so I have decided to perform a little experiment on myself. First off I am 5' 10" 225lbs(according to last weigh in) 24% bf now I'm bigger for personal reasons I love powerlifting and I feel the bit of fat helps give me stability but its summer so its time to trim so fat off, but not too much because what woman doesn't like a grizzly bear to cuddle up next to at night(; my goal is 18% bf I've cut from 26% bf to 24% in two weeks so im eager to see where I stand now. Anyways I've decided to start IF intermittent fasting when I wake up at 9:30 p.m. (I work third shift) I'll wait to eat until 11 I might push that to 1:30 and then at 6 I don't eat anything else and i drink only water instead of diet drinks. I only have one diet dew a night when at work but still not the ideal drink. I'll go to sleep around 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. but before I go to bed I go to the gym on Tuesdays, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I've skipped cardio for a few weeks and did only weights. Today I decided to go walking so I put my son in the stroller and went on a nice walk for an hour. I noticed I started sweating more and my legs felt a little weak. So I'm assuming I'm becoming a little more insulin sensitive so i came home and had 4 oz chicken breast, 4oz thin cut steak, whole grain rice and a large glass of sweet tea for the insulin spike. And compared to having a protein shake I actually felt amazing. Usually with a protein shake I'll get dizzy and sick, but this time I had a small headache that came and went in 5 minutes my muscles all over my body got a small pump and my veins enlarged. Usually when i get a headache that comes and goes with a supplement its always been a supplement that works. Its a neat way my body lets me know what I like. Another effect I noticed is my waist drew in a little and I see the outline of the abs. With a protein shake i end up being bloated, weird. Anyways I measured my wait before the walk and then after the meal and the difference is 1". The waist(measuring from the naval) was 42" now 41". I will measure again when i wake up. But wanted to log this in and check with my Dr either tmw or next Thursday I can't remember when he said he wanted to check my bf% but if any experienced members have any input tips tricks etc feel free to comment and or correct me on anything. Thanks. And have a great day!

IF isn't really manipulating your insulin levels. If you aren't diabetic they should remain pretty steady despite not eating.
As for the bloated, dizzy and general sick feeling the protein shake is giving you, has this been something that always happened with shakes? Maybe your stomach isn't tolerating the brand your using or one of the protein sources?

Weighing yourself and taking measurements before and after a meal and/or activity is a bit neurotic and unnecessary. Weight fluctuates.. those measurements aren't really going to be helpful and can't actually be detrimental to your progress.

Lastly, headaches are not a sign a supplement works.

Protein shakes make me sick after workouts, I've tried cheap walmart brand protein and gnc brand optimum nutrition and even bsn syntha6. Never fails but I can drink them if its a rest day. And I've tried soy protein and it did the same thing. And usually I weigh more after workouts but I've been trying to manipulate my insulin through cutting all simple carbs out and trying to eat only lean meats during the day and after a workout maybe have a good fast acting carb otherwise I'll usually only drink whole milk, and that's what I thought but I've only gotten minor quick headaches from supplements that work, and by that I mean things such as a combination of creatine and whey hydrosolate, or things like that or even eating the right things in a sense have always gave me great results

It might be bs but its like people who have "good luck" charms because they're favorite teams more than likely just coincidence but I've got alot of time to figure that out xD inshAllah

You got a lot going on here. I think your confusing your goals. Sounds like you want to reduce body fat, correct? I wouldn't worry about hgh/insulin sensitivity at this point.

How are you eating? You mention limiting carbs. Do you track your carbs? If your going to radically change diet and meal timing I would expect some strength loss at least in short term til you get things figured out. Sometimes it's a trade off.

Regarding IF: a common protocol is a 16 hour window of no eating or eating normally one day and fasting one or two days a week. As a 3rd shifter you have a big hurdle. You workout, eat, sleep. Many folks use their sleep time as IF time, sounds like you cannot. Reading your schedule I really don't see an extended period of time your fasting. Fasting for fat loss requires your blood glucose to be low ( and therefore insulin) so your body mobilizes stored fat into circulating fatty acids for energy. I'm not sure if 6 hours between meals is long enough.

Ah gotcha, and losing only a little. Not too much. Little goals mainly. And for carbs I'll carb cycle sort if. Low to mid carbs on non workout days and a little more like 180 grams on workout days. My sleep schedule is normal I try to strive for 9-10 hours of sleep but I mostly get 6-7 hours. Ill wake up and clock in to work at 11 then when I get off work at 7:30 am I go to the gym then sleep. So would.you recommend going from 11am to 7:30 am fasting?

If you can find an extended period of time to IF try to go 12-16 hours. In addition, a lot of people workout fasted and then eat after the workout which ends the fast. I'm not sure how you work that into your schedule. I would check out the site Leangains for more info. I find fasting or at least going a lengthy time between meals works much better when I can eat protein, fats and avoid carbs. The satiety of protein/fats eliminates hunger for me.

I work second shift. When I fast, I don't eat after 8 pm. I get home by midnight try to get to bed. I am up at 7 am, I drink coffee and water. I workout at 10 or 11 am, I am done by noon or 1 pm and then I eat. That 16 hour stretch is easy for me.

I am no expert. I am not a power lifter or competitive BB. But if fat loss is the goal, I would advise a stricter low carb approach and use IF as a tool, not a magic bullet. Good luck.

Alright, I'll stretch out the IF time to 12 hours and bump it up as needed and I'll check into lower carb options. Thanks for the advice!

IF seems to peak GH levels around 18hrs of fasting though do what works best YOU is your best bet if you would like to know more search brad pillion, the author of eat stop eat and martin berkhan for all your IF info they both know their stuff on the subject
