So....I just spent 45 minutes typing up copies of the HUNG update, only to have my computer freeze all times and losing everyting. I've been going 4 straight weeks anywhere from 10-16 hours a day, and I'm too tired to retype it.

Currently using an HP Pavillion DV6 2.5GHz, i5 8gb RAM, 500gb HDD, Windows 7.

I hate Windows 10, so want to keep W7 - but I want to upgrade everything else. Anyone have something superior to this that they want to:

1) sell
2) Sell with store credit
3) take store credit for only
4)Sexual Favors from MidwestBeast

It's also got the little screen (15.6) and my eyes are going to hell so working longer hours is taking a toll.

Anyway, up for anything.

I recommend installing Linux, at least as a stop gap measure. Anytime I have a computer that is on death's door installing Linux on it breathes new life into it.

Linux Mint or Ubuntu work much like Windows and there will be very little learning curve. Libre Office (you would have to install it, I think) is free and good.

I get that but this is definitely a hardware problem

Never been an HP fan. Too many wonky hardware issues in my history with them. Always had great luck with Dell and even with the one off issues, their support stands behind the products. I highly recommend the XPS 15 line. The 9530 (older) is plenty fine and you can get them cheaper. I buy Dell refurbished from their outlet site and add a 2 or 3 year warranty for peace of mind. They don't make a 17" so it might not be big enough for you. But I love it!

This seems obvious, but have you tried blowing the dust out of the ventilation ports? The laptop could certainly be overheating if those are clogged with dust. Another thing you could try is to install ccleaner, and use the registry tool. I've used this for quite a few different machines to restore lost performance due to older windows installations slowing down over time. Finally run a full malwarebytes scan on the computer to see if there are any malware infections causing issues as well. With a little maintenance perhaps you could get the laptop to run a little more reliably.

With most laptops, you can output the video to an external monitor. That would allow you to purchase a 15 inch laptop to keep the weight down and portability up, while also reducing the original purchase cost. You could purchase a relatively inexpensive 24-27 inch 1080p monitor which would be much easier on your eyes if you have the desktop real estate to spare.

I happen to have a laptop we are trying to sell, I'm not sure if it's a step up or down from yours. If you're interested I could figure out shipping and maybe we could just swap for some supplements ?

It is an
HP Envy m6 Notebook with Beats Audio
6.00GB Total Memory
AMD A10-5750M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics Processor
Touchscreen

Like I said, I don't know how it compares to your current one, I go to my dad for computer stuff. It was my girlfriends that she literally never used. I had to get a new laptop that could handle better design programs and so she just uses my old one now. It has windows 10 but can be downgraded to 7.

Let me check out the specs. I have keys going out along with everything else. I've ordered 3 different keyboards and they keep sending me the wrong one.
