Knee Pads

I'm going to keep this post short. I tore some miniscus in my knee in January and have been rehabbing it since. Last week I did my first moderately heavy leg workout in months. I have been able to get back to the mat and not feel much pain. However, I do feel anxious when I'm rolling because of the fear that the same thing will happen.

So, I'd like to know what type of knee pads I could get that would support my knees for BJJ purposes. Ideally they wouldn't constrict any of my movements but just support my knee in case of sudden explosive force against my knees in weird angles.

Thanks, I appreciate any help.

It depends, we vary. The ones who have a wrestling background like to start from the feet. The other group of us who don't have a wrestling background will try to establish guard if we start from our feet.

I'd say, I start from my knees 75% of the time.

Are you a whitebelt? If you are, and leglocks are illegal, then any simple stabalizing knee pad/sleeve should be OK.

If you roll no-gi/mma or are a blue+ your safest bet is to just ask that no one attacks that leg :(

And no wild guard's that torque your own knee ( rubber, de la riva )

I am currently a white belt, and (unfortunately) probably will not advance until the end of this year. We do a no-gi class immediately after the gi class, but the rules are still the same I believe. At least it is in my training place.

There is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to being a white belt. It's my opinion that a lot of US schools promote too quickly, especially when it comes to specific affiliations.

A Brazilian blue belt vs a american blue belt.. meh I'd have to favor the Brazilian. I feel Cesar Gracie students earn their belt legitimately. ( I'm under De La Riva .

Either way, good luck with the knee man. If it hurts too much, just drill.. don't roll. And don't miss class!

Yeah, I agree. I'm not too concerned with making the next belt for the belt's sake. I just wish my game was on par with a blue belt. However, I am more than confident in my instructor's teaching and BJJ abilities and I trust him. He has an extensive amount of competitive success which proves the point for me.

Thanks, I got some "TrueFit" knee brace things. We'll see what's up. I tried them on and they felt uncomfortable.

well I only say that because they would be well broken in and wouldnt inhibit your movement as much as a new set of knee pads

I'm not ashamed as much as I am frustrated that I haven't put more effort into my techniques and learning new ones to represent a higher skill level.

My wife has a set of knee pads that are barely used...she got them when we got engaged...strangely enough after the wedding she hasn't used them since.

Huh...I think I got horn swaggled

Oh well...that's what they make girlfriends for.
