KLEEN - STRONG BODY STRONG MIND!

Me too, it is a great HIIT workout.

LOL

I sure will, how do you like the Squat machine? I am also looking at the Body Solid lever gym. It has bearings and stuff which would make it very smooth to operate and likely last longer. If I do that it will probably be new. However if I get the one that is used locally I get more weights with it but transport and what not is going to be hell as opposed to having it delivered new. The body solid is the better unit and is like 1700 with attachments that the Power Tec doesn't or that I will have to order later. On top of that I don't own a truck...

THanks, Trinity came out to workout last night and was like "Oh My God Dad! You made it look so good out here!"

We hit up a nice little Quick paced workout last night. We did not time rest just went in a pretty quick I go, you go pace.

KB Swings - Me 55x20 x 5 sets - Trinity 15x20, 20x20 x 4 sets

Push Ups Me - Supinated on rotating push up handled- 4 sets of 20-40 reps @ RPE8 - Trinity regular push ups 4 sets of 10

Trinity Leg Press 4 sets of 10
Me - Leg Extensions 150 x 4 sets 10-25 reps RPE9

Seated Supinated Cable Rows - Me - 150x 15-25 reps @ RPE8 - Trinity 3 sets of 10

I used some clumped up Radiate before leaving work for energy, and obviously underestimated how much I was getting in the clumped up form. So I ended up flying way too high intensity, and had to sit down after my first work set on the rows. My heart was just racing, I wanted to puke, and felt shaky and weak. So I stopped and let Trinity finish up her sets.

I have to say that for anyone with a home gym that wants to be able to do some Kettle Bell swings you should definitely pick one of these up.
It is called a Kettle Gryp, and it turns dumbells into a KB. You probably wouldn't want to try olympic lifts with it but swings and carries is good. Last night was the first time I used it and it worked really well for the KB swings. I am going to try them next with my Iron Master DB's and go even heavier.

The only thing I noticed was with my 55lb weights the handles are a little small so the grip was not super tight. There was maybe 3/4 inch of play on the side of the Kettle Gryp attachment which allowed the weight to slide to one side of the DB handle if you swung it off center but was far from an issue. Like i said it was less than an inch so could be mildly off center with that small handle. However with even a normal standard handle it would be secure enough not to slide and will definitely be very secure with the Iron Master DB's which have a larger handle.

Either way this now gives me up to a 120lb KB for less than $20-35 on Amazon depending on when you catch it.

Won’t have to worry about clumping with the new powder :-)

On a side note, you’re home gym looks bad ass bro, you could start charging membership fees!! ?

Awesome invention!
No doubt!

Thanks on the gym. Will have to try the new one out.

Sitting up at Trinity's new dance school for her first class. So no workout tonight but that's okay. She's worth it!

Haha! I just pictured someone trying to swat a shotput with a badminton racket! LMAO, its like playing tennis with a bowling ball!

I was so proud of Trinity last night, it has been 3 years since she had formal training in dance. Yes she was in dance at her school but that is a very basic beginner thing. However she did really awesome last night and got a lot of compliments from the teachers and other girls in the class. She has another session tonight and I plan to go watch that as well. Just going to have to walk in the house, change and go straight to the garage to lift so i can watch her again. It being her first night in that class will be good for her. Plan on trying to be at as many practices as I can to show her it is important to me too.

Spend as much time with her as you can, they grow up fast. My daughters are 35 and 45 and I still love spending time with them !

Absolutely, she is one of the coolest girls I know! I may be biased but that's okay too!

Had a nice workout last night, not going to get into numbers as to be honest right now I am just doing what I can while dealing with these issues. I did start my 1500mg of turmeric back up and I think that is what was missing the last several months that I have been feeling a good bit of inflammation. We shall see. I did all of this in a kind of circuit fashion to get the energy consumption up.

I did the the push exercises to the best of my ability and pushed as hard as I felt comfortable pushing on every lift but no further. I let the lack of rest, and accumulative fatigue take care of creating some metabolic stress. Goblet Squats were done with a 25lb KB just for the core and thoracic benefits the weight adds, and not really trying to increase resistance on legs. Still have to really baby this foot of mine!

The Strapped Machine incline press was done with figure 8 wrist straps over the handles of the bench press, and done both pressing up and pulling in like a fly to really put stress on the pecs while also requiring more stability due to using the straps for handles almost like a cable press or fly.

Agreed, and this use made them even cooler. Just put one end on the handle and the other in my hand and instant free motion feel to the pressing.

Had a nice workout tonight. Did upper body compounds.

Warm up 2 songs on airdyne

Band activation work

Superset 1
NG DB shoulder press 55x14, 10, 9
Pull ups +25x5, bw x11, 9

Superset 2
Ring push ups 12, 12, 12
Seated cable rows 12 12 12

Superset 3
Kb swings 20 20 20
Planks 30-60 seconds x 3

Today felt good and challenged me with the quick pace and slower tempo work for more control.

Feeling pretty good this morning, no little niggles, aches or pains from yesterday. Pretty happy with that. I got to probably an RPE8.5 on the work last night. Trying to get as close as I could to an RPE9 without causing myself any pain. Shoulder stability is still challenging with my labrum being this inflamed. The secondary lifts were just volume, and a different movement pattern. I will swap which ones are the main patterns on my next workout. I will start with some Rows and Floor press next time.

Thanks I really like having something at the house. Although I am probably going to get a Body Solid Leverage gym to replace the Paramount universal at some point. Have my eye out for Good Friday deals.

I ate some sushi for my fast breaker and am going to workout when I get home from the doctors. Figured getting some good carbs and easily digested protein would be nice for the workout. Hoping to get some good news on the foot and maybe an idea how much longer get in the boot. Would be nice if I can start doing a little more stuff. I will update later after the appointment and workout.

Had a nice weekend. I have been failing at keeping my nutrition clean. I normally have an issue with nutrition when I am not able to really push things very hard physically. So I am going to really have to focus more on nutrition. I have been doing some reading and am looking at doing Stan Efferding's Vertical Diet just with a bit lower beef content than he prescribes but still using a good bit.

For anyone not familiar with it, he basically lays out a foundation with things that specifically meet the micronutrient daily requirements via whole foods, then the vertical part is where he increases calories and whatnot through mostly red meat, rice and chicken bone stock mix he calls "Monster Mash." The bone stock also has natural collagen which is beneficial to the joints and what not also, on top of aiding in digestion a bit.

The diet is basically a higher protein elimination diet with few twists. Almost everything in the diet is considered a low FODMAP food. FODMAPS have been shown to cause a lot of digestion and inflammation issues, including many that are associated with Gluten are actually due to being high FODMAP as well. Basically this diet is IBS friendly too so I can see if the wife can handle some of it as well.

Their are a few things I really believe in with this protocol like maintaining high sodium, and high potassium levels. It also keeps the diet high in iodine to help with driving the metabolism. I also like that he never requires you to go over 1 gram per lbs of body weight on protein, and even lower when bulking.

This diet is supposed to improve digestion, even with all the beef. However he suggests if you have issues digesting beef to work into it as digestion improves you can add more red meat if you so choose. I plan to start with about 8-12 oz of beef a day, I think that should be more than enough to get all of the benefits of the higher iron, vitamin b, and a few other things.

I love the idea of the monster mash as a huge and convenient part of the plan, it is similar to my Bucket a day plan I set up a while back just has more structure to make sure I am getting in my micronutrients @ highly effective levels.

The goal is to get my digestion on track while keeping things relatively simple. I started my food prep for this yesterday but did not complete the set up all the way. I have my 1lb beef, and 1 lbs ground turkey cooked on the grill last night. I have a couple lbs of stew meat that I got from Kroger on sale, and am going to sousvide it tonight. Will cook up a big tub of rice tonight, and probably separate the meals out and officially get started on it tomorrow.

As far as training goes, I lifted 3 times since my last update. I won't go into the workouts just to save time but they were grouped like so.
Upper Body Compounds Push / Pull
Legs and Abs
Shoulders and Arms

Second that one! I'm glad I did. My older kids still make comments that Dad was always at all our stuff. Great memories. Just glad the Lord has blessed me with a job that is somewhat flexible. I have buddies that work the night shift and miss a lot of there kids activities. I understand providing comes first but it is sure nice to be able to attend their activities and practices as well.

Agreed, she knows without a question she is adored and that we love to watch her do her thing. We love it! Even at home I go bother her just to get her attention, make her laugh, or intentionally annoy her... This weekend I just went to her room and kept messing with her, poking, prodding, tickling, and playfully doting on her until she started giggling so hard she got the hiccups then just left her there with a massive case f the hiccups! LMAO!

All rested up and ready for a lift tonight. I have kind of settled back into my Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday routine for lifting.

I got my stuff together for the diet, and am starting it loosely today. I will have to wait for this evening to get my vegetables in because I forgot to put them in with my mash. I brought 2 meals worth of Mash to work, so 1/3 lb 90/10 beef with 1 cup rice, and 1/3lb 93/7 ground turkey and 1 cup of rice both in chicken bone stock and seasoned with salt and pepper.

Now for some fun discussion with HIT4ME... lol

This is in your signature:
"I've never seen anyone change his mind because of the power of a superior argument or the acquisition of new facts. But I've seen plenty of people change behavior to avoid being mocked." -Scott Adams

Wow, what a horrible thought process. I get the idea that people definitely tend to change their behavior to avoid being made fun of. I think we just experienced that in another thread where the OP was being a turd, then calmed the rowdy down once mobbed with AM style righteousness.

However, what a horrible thought process to assume no one changes their mind from learning new facts...

So the question here is, are you celebrating the fact that people are stubborn and choose to remain ignorant, or stating that bullying, and mob mentality is the best way to effect change...

AND GO!!!

LMAO - I'm not really doing either. Scott Adams is the creator of Dilbert. I just think it's humorous. But it's also kind of something for self-introspection as well. We all have our beliefs, and those beliefs don't often change very easily; unless there is pain involved in holding them.

For instance - how many people stopped smoking cigarettes because there was a bunch of evidence that it was bad for you? But you start running ads, making them stand outside, making it less socially acceptable, and a bunch of people stop doing it. Not everyone, not enough, but a lot of them.

Also, do most people lose weight because it is healthy? Or because they want to "look" better, attract members of the opposite sex, etc.?

Oh, and I don't believe it says mob mentality is the "best" way to create change - I can see that interpretation and I think that's where you see the horrible thought process; in the horrible interpretation :)

It doesn't say it is best, it just observes that it is effective. It also implies that learning and acquiring new facts WOULD be a better way - it just doesn't seem to work for a lot of people/situations.

LMAO... I had to come up with something... Yeah I looked up who it was.

I don't know, I chose to lose weight because i learned the fact that women like buff guys... So I learned a fact, about what people liked and chose to use that... OH WHAT NOW!?!?!?!

LMAO, I had to do the old correlation makes causation thing with an assumptive question following to make this exercise more fun. LOL

Although bringing up social conformity, what are your thoughts on this experiment. Seems to be a take on the old 5 Monkeys fable, but is it legit?

You learned a fact that women like buff guys? Is that really a fact? Lots of fat guys have women in their lives. Plus, women probably like a lot of things from men that men don't do even though women like it.

But in all seriousness, I would assume it's that you also learned that women don't prefer fat guys, or that fat guys are less attractive, have less authority, etc. - all that pain coupled with the belief that they do prefer fit men caused the change. This is something I've learned in sales - if I try to give someone the ultimate solution to their problem, they often don't buy because there is no pain. If I dig into their pain and make them hurt a little, they often don't buy because they hate my guts for making them uncomfortable and they can avoid it by just getting away from me. But if I dig in and hurt them a little, while also showing them there is a better way....$$$$

That's an interesting video. It seems set up - especially since the woman is sitting their while everyone disappears, and continues to sit there while new people show up and no one disappears. Yet, there are a number of studies showing weird things like this.

There is a book by Robert Cialdini called Persuasion which is a classic. He talks a lot about this and how groups persuade people because we instinctively observe the actions of others to determine how we will act. They've done studies where they have a college student come in to take a test with 2 shills. As the student enters the building he walks by someone working on a ladder in the hallway. They give him the test and while everyone is taking the test they knock the ladder over and make it sound like he fell. They found that if the 2 shills act like nothing is wrong, the student will follow suit. If the shills look up, he will look up. If a shill goes to see what is up, he will get up and check too.

There's also all the situations where someone is hurt or in danger in public and everyone just stands and watches - including a case where a woman was brutally stabbed and murdered in a New York street while dozens of neighbors watched from their windows and did nothing.

And this is part of my view on things that we are SO influenced by our environment and what others do - and we often just don't realize it. We like to think we have "will power" - but look how fast that person lost their will to ignore the buzzer and conformed.

To bring it back to dieting and training, it's a social norm to eat fast food every day now. I don't eat fast food at all anymore, I don't even desire it. I don't even really like eating in restaurants much anymore. But when I am with people, they act like it is SO weird that I don't want it. I am aware of the environments effect, which makes it a tiny bit easier to resist, but so many people are on auto-pilot and that makes it hard to fix a problem when you don't even realize what is going on.

All things equal, more women find a muscular (within reason) man more physically attractive than a fat man. Of course, there are psychological factors at play, like people associating muscle with vanity, or being a meathead, or women thinking that the fit man will be more likely to cheat or leave her, etc, but from a purely physical perspective, most people prefer someone is at least decent shape.

Way to turn it into an honest convo... I was hoping you could do so.

As far as me getting in shape yep it came from pain, but I was fascinated with muscle as long as i can remember. My mom has pictures of me doing front double biceps poses before I was in kindergarten. I always knew I had muscles, but the girl who told me I had girl boobs when i asked her to be my girlfriend was the real catalyst for me working out. Nothing else was really too wrong with me but those damn pointy nipples... but that comment seared into my brain, and then my sisters boyfriend felt bad for me and gave me his weight set since he got a new one. Told me I had muscles, just lift and when I was big girls wouldn't care about my nipples. I have to say he was right too!!!! Now it is only me who trips out about them, and most women don't seem to notice, don't care, or are to considerate to bring it up. I am going with the first two.

I definitely think it is staged as well. There has to be at least one leader in that group of people, one curious person who would ask, "Why are we doing this?" I thought the first guy after the group was going to end it, and that is where it became unbelievable to me. If somone is astute enough to ask why, the answer she gave would not have been good enough... He would have simply turned to the employee and asked why they were doing it and stopped if they didn't have a legitimate answer. Well I would anyway...

Then again I pride myself on the fact I have been able to break away from many of the things I was indoctrinated into believing as a child. I kind of need to know why I am doing something, and if it no longer makes sense to me once I know the reason I tend to stop that activity or belief.

I do agree that environment is a massive factor, like we discussed before, environment can be the biggest challenge, or asset to a persons will power. Surround yourself with those you want to emulate if at all possible and you will be far more likely to succeed. Kind of like that statement that you will become like the 5 people you spend the most time with, so choose your friends wisely.

Interesting that people always say this but how do you hang out with extremely successful people if you don't really have access to them. Also if they are also following that premise why would they want to hang with someone who may bring them down a notch... Ain't that a bitch!!!

Agreed, same for men with women. I mean appearance is huge factor in attracting a mate in almost every animal out there... All of the brightly colored males doing their mating dances and calls... it's just nature to want the best mate you can manage to attract.

lol - wait - you just said that you were ridiculed and that got you to lift weights! I win!!!! Or rather, Dilbert wins!

Granted, you did learn a new fact - that girl nipples would get you ridiculed. And you also had a path to fix it - your new weight set.

I think you probably are a little different than most people as far as being able to question and think for yourself and not worry as much about the pack. I feel I am the same way. But I also believe that most people think they will do what is right and what makes sense, not what others are doing - and your video and other solid evidence says otherwise. Stuff like that and the original quote makes me look inward and question the real me vs. the way I see myself.

Well not even ridiculed, the girl really liked me as a friend and was honestly trying to say that in the nicest way possible. However she was my crush and that broke me. I was already into muscles though, Arnold was my hero! However the avoidance of recurring pain is obviously a great motivator and many inventions have come from that very thing. So it would make sense for someone to reinvent themselves to avoid ridicule. YOu won't catch me arguing that point.

You will catch me arguing the point that it is not the only motivator for change in behavior or thought process.

I notice things like this all the time. Often while waiting at a cross walk there will be several people there all waiting and then I see a break in traffic and start walking, then suddenly the law abiding people on the sidewalk all start to follow me across the street. Just needed one person to make them feel like it was okay to jaywalk and they all follow...

I actually just came up with a really cool Self help tool idea... I am going to talk to my son about making it into an app and see if he thinks he can do it.

AND GO!!!
Changing your mind upon learning new facts is really the only logical reason for self awareness.

I believe it may be affected by different stages of the menstrual cycle.

I hit up a full body of sorts last night. I did it circuit style because I didn't have a lot of time and I wanted to make it a burner too.

All in all I did 6 round, 2 high rep rounds @ RPE7 with lighter weights and 4 heavier sets rounds at a more challenging weight.

Warm Up = Airdyne Bike 2 songs

Activation work for weak points

Reset Hips

Giant Set - Tempo was 3-1-1-1 on all movements

Barbell Floor Press
(1) 135-20 (2) 155x15-20 (3) 175x12-15 (4) 185x12-15 (5) 185x10-12 (6) 185x8-10

Seated Cable Rows (1) 75x20 (2) 115x20 (3) 165x15-20 (4) 195x15-20 (5)225x12-15, 225x10-12

Leg Extensions (1) 75x20 (2) 115x20 (3) 165x15-20 (4) 195x15-20 (5) 225x12-15 (6) 225x10-12

Chest Up Lying Leg Curls (1) 25x15-20 (2) 50x15-20 (3) 75x12-15 (4) 75x12-15 (5) 85x12 (6)85x8-12

Core Work - Hanging Knees to Elbows - 3 sets of 10-15 reps

So something interesting is happening physique wise, with the increase in sodium, and potassium my vascularity increased overnight. I look fuller too, so I think that the proper electrolyte balance is really pulling the water into the muscles and creating a better balance.

Since right now performance is out the window and I am flailing without a specific goal, I have decided I am going to focus much more on my diet than normal. I want to see what I can do to get my blood work where I want it as well as leaning up to achieve aesthetics.

My daughter has me growing my beard out, and told me she doesn't want me to cut it until after Christmas. She wants me to color it white with that coloring wax and take a picture as a Buff Santa, I think I might start a specific thread for this goal just to have some fun and get more eyes on it.

Maybe even make some kind of penalty if I don't make it. What do you guys think?

Buff santa! go for it.
Sodium / water / carbs and throw in a pump agent pre workout and my pumps are off the charts!

haha even if you failed the diet portion, you'd still be santa!

I think you need to focus on something if you don’t want to be fat and weak. Fat and strong or sexy and weak are acceptable, but lack of discipline produces the worst combo: fat and weak lol

I know you can do this!

Oh yeah, the pump after giving into endless chips and salsa are always off the chain!!!! Just this time there is no bloating associated.

No doubt, and even more realistic. HOWEVER... I want to be Buff Santa, not just Santa. LOL

Not sure if you all have noticed because my pics are always straight on but the hair on my cheeks is pretty much pure white already. I only have dark hair left in my goatee area which is what gave here the idea.

Agreed, I am more of an external motivation guy... training without purpose does not really do it for me. Going through the motions is almost impossible for me. If I don't have a specific goal I tend to start relaxing quickly.

Some people were talking about something starting in the Transformation thread, so this was my suggestion. If anyone is interested in doing something like this post up in that thread.

For those who don't want to wait, I used to do an annual Unwrap your abs for Christmas thread. Basically for those who want to get leaner instead of fatter during the holidays.

I am about to start my own log but if there are enough people interested we can do a group accountability thread for it now. Hit up 6 weeks of dieting, or make one called something like "No New Year Resolution Challenge, Procrastination = Masturbation don't screw yourself...

Make the penalty for not succeeding something publicly embarrassing on youtube and facebook. I was thinking if we failed could be something like having to dress up as a Baby in a diaper with a bottle, and say "I was a big baby and chose not to finish my fitness challenge, so now I have to post this video..." Then put the links in the main thread for anyone who failed to keep there goals in check so we can all watch and enjoy them. .

Need to have something you don't want to do, looming in the background for accountability.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Buff Santa with a Blue Shower Cap. That's what I think.

Or...buff Santa contest? Who has the best buff Santa?

Going to go ahead and move on with the No New year Resolution challenge so it isn't limited to just leaning up. Are you getting in on it? I mean your accountability can be simply to not allow your composition to decline during the holidays. Would love to have you in there too.

Although I wouldn't be against a separate thread for buff santa, I think that could just really be a lot of fun... Then again, Rocket3015 has that in the bag more than likely. Pristine white beard and already buff! He would just need to let the beard grow out a bit more.

Thank you MrKleen73 for your kind words !!

What do you think Dec 1st, start a Buff Santa contest? We can all take pics dressed up as our version of Buff Santa and have some votes. It should just be a fun and silly thing to do.

Lunch!

I am surprised how much I am enjoying just having some raw veggies and fruit in my diet right now. I can tell my body really wanted them because now that I am eating them more I really enjoy it and almost crave them.

The Apples are so good this time of year !!

Had a quick push pull workout last night. Shoulder wasn't feeling too great so I went with super slow reps on lat pull downs and various OHPs

I did a total of 6 work sets each in a continuous circuit. High Rep, VERY slow tempos!

Wide Grip Lat Pull Downs Tempo 8-1-4-2 - (1) 120x20-30 (2) 120x20-30 (3) 135x20-25 (4) 135x15x25+10 explosive reps (5) 135x12-20+10 explosive reps (6) 135x10-15+10 explosive reps

Barbell OHP - Tempo 8-1-4-1 (1) 45x20-30 (2) 45x20-30 - DB Supinated Shoulder Press (3) 30x20-30 (4) 30x20x30+10 explosive reps (5) 30x15-20+10 explosive reps (6) 30x10-15+10 explosive reps

That was enough for me, still doing some frequency work so not crazy volume. The pump was ridiculous. I was going until I couldn't do another re at the right tempo, then the last 3 of each I added 10 explosive reps to try to bring the Glut-4 to the surface for better nutrient uptake.

Here is a quote from the challenge thread with my starting picture, and the goal I have to measure myself by...

Alright guys, here is my picture, not proud of where I am but for a naturally fat guy who has not been able to do legs, or cardio I guess it isn't too bad.

I am 207 and some change in this pic, and the goal pic of me I was 201 and some change. So I am guessing I have at least 6-7lbs of fat to lose. Maybe more since I have not been able to push any body part hard in the last few months and have lost some muscle as a result.

My current composition @ 207 lbs

and this is the goal

Oh yeah! I'm a huge apple guy. Picking them right off a tree and eating is just beyond fun and enjoyable.

That is the best way to eat them. When I lived in W.Va we just walked around eating apples off of trees all day... most people didn't mind because they weren't eating them all so they would fall and attract the bees and stuff. I swear there were days I killed 20-30 apples.... Loved to grab them before they were ripe while they were really tart too!!!

When we would go small game hunting in PA we had a spot where we would circle through every few hours and raid the trees... theres not much better than a few fresh, crisp apples after walking around for hours!

I live in the center of the Apple Capital of the USA !!

Subd! Btw i had these apples recently, i dont recall their name but mannnnnn they are soooo delicious that if i didnt have an allergy attack everytime i ate too many id eat them all the time lol.

Had a nice weekend, did a little training but did a lot of work on the house instead. Diet has not been as good as I wanted it this weekend. I failed to prep, and that led to not eating enough, then not eating what I should have when I did. Still wasn't a bad weekend just did not make any progress on my physique. I did make a lot of progress on the house, getting things out of the way so I do not have to do them later when I need to train so that is a plus.

Will definitely be training tonight and am looking forward to it.

I also found a PowerTec home leverage gym like I have been looking for. The guy only wants 400 for it but it is in Louisiana about 5 hours away. I am checking with my son to see if I can use his truck this coming weekend to pick it up. I think it comes with like 280 in weight, and a couple floor mats. So I am going to see about driving out there this coming weekend to pick it up. Then will have to sell the big white cable system I have.

Your not far from your goal. I plan to continue on what I already stated this October, which I’m highly impressed with and stuck to, SQUATTING EVERYDAY DURING OCTOBER except Sunday. Sunday is rest day. I would be more than happy to stretch this from October to December. Already been posting workouts but not nutrition but I’m in for the buff Santa Challenge to join a group of peeps with a common goal.
