Killn' The Cube: My powerlifting venture begins

Hahah. You're competing at 198, right? Better up the test, growth, and beer dosages. Mohawks increase your beer capacity. Fact.

My test level is prolly 1300 right now, gotta pin tomorrow for the last time until I get back. No beer after today until after I lift weds...

Thankfully, today is a recovery day. Going to foam roll, stretch, and do some hip flossing. My legs and hips are still tore up, so tmrw will consist of some light DE squats and deadlifts, PC work, and light weight sled drag.

I have a goal of eating 6,000 calories today. Nothing but eating and writing papers today. SO much harder to do HW when football is on.

Edit: can't forget about the pausers.

Week 6: light lower body/recovery day

Before I post what I did, I would like to note how my legs feel. Yesterday I had to dig deep to get down the stairs, so I'm happy with what I accomplished. It's akin to the first time I squatted/like my legs have been beaten with baseball bats.

Pre: foam roll, hip floss, couch stretch, hip flexor stretch

Squat:
135x8x4
185x5x3

7" pause squat: 1x5- 135

DE DL: 1x6- 315

BB 45 degree extensions:
135x12x3
155x12

Picked these up from Rubish's channel. They're awesome.

Calf raise SS banded hamstring curl: a lot

Suspended GM:
135x12x2
165x8x2

I'm predicting the biggest squat gains of my life these next few months. HUGE difference getting a good unrack and staying erect. I'm going to eat appropriately and train balls out to make it happen.

Edit: holy ****, stepped on the scale fasted, after losing a few food babies: 217. I put on weight FAST.

Week 6: extra day

Mobility work and air squats with legs banded.

Sled drag: 100lbs for a good amount of time. Threw up, baha.

Banded side bends: 15x3

Sit ups w/ 25lb plate overhead: 15x3

Plate pinches: failure x 3

Little heavy bag work and I'm out. Eating a bunch, gotta make up for the loss of cals.

Cutting is for ***s.

Unless you're hitting a national or world record and are 220+

Most def. I'm thinking he just wants the best total:bodyweight ratio, when he should be wanting the largest total possible.

Smoker, you, like me, are still in the infantile stage of this sh1t. GROW.

I disagree with your decision. You should be getting bigger.

I hear eveyone. Y'all keep saying that.and I know that since I've gotten bigger I've gotten stronger. It's just the feeling of doing good in a weight class that has my thoughts on that, and the fact I can drop weight like it's nothing.

Idk, I still have time to figure it out. You guys haven't steered me wrong, so I should probably just listen

I am one hundred percent into Lilly's thinking in cutting. I will gladly get whopped in the 220's this time around and get stronger.

Smoker my friend, get on the board and just keep beating yourself. I don't know about the other meets but mine we didn't even know what weight class other lifters were in unless asked or at the end. They place by strength. If a 165 and a 242 both dead the same they will lift back to back.

I know it's stupid, but the possibility of getting a trophy is on my mind. I know I should be saying " who gives a ****" but I still think about it

Yeah we def think differently. Trophies don't mean dick to me compared to a big total. That's much more gratifying.

I went in at 198 my first, weighed 186.

Meant to compete 181 (was 178 when I ETSed two weeks prior).

Got 2nd place and three PRs.

The main reason for me competing is to have followed a program, a put a purpose on my working out. And to do a sport again. It's been too long since I've done something competitive.

The trophy is just a little tantalizing thought.

I'm in the same boat as you with the exception of that last sentence. Material things aren't sh1t. I don't need a piece of hardware to feel accomplished. I need to know in my mind I punished myself every day to reach my goal and my total is the absolute best I could have done.

It's your first meet dude. IMO, you're wasting valuable time cutting when you could be growing and adding poundage. You're a grown man and will make your decision according to how you feel, but I know I'm going to be slamming cheeseburgers all day. 455/355/545, I ain't getting there on celery.

I'm very envious of your total. Ill get there some day. I've learned a lot on my road to my first meet, and will now be more ready for my next one. I can't wait to step up and get a number for a lift. It might be ****, but that's my number.

The trophy isn't even about me, it's about proving someone wrong. My dad is a rough guy, and he has always thought I'm wasting my time and money with working out. It would just be nice to slam damn the trophy and be like " boom, bish..."

But this is about me, not anyone else.

That's not my total. That's my goal and I'm going to have to put on weight to get there. I do this because I enjoy it, not to prove anyone wrong. I've never had a dad, so I don't know what it's like to have your paps belittle your goals. Do what you want, it's your decision. I just want to get stronger and have a respectable total.

Edit: hell I've never even done a meet. I'm just reiterating what the pro's say. I tend to side with the experienced people who are where I want to be.

My bad, not sure how I missed that. And I love this **** man. I still remember when I hated going to the gym and could not go for weeks and not care. How times change.
Bottom line is, I'm just gonna happy to accomplish something that I did

Word. Nothing more empowering than smashing a PR. The biggest reason people stop going to the gym is because they don't know what the hell they're doing and spin their wheels. People on here put me on the right track and I'm damn sure thankful. We might have different goals, but I'm happy you're doing a meet. Maybe it will be your driving force to eat MORE.

I'm convinced if I never got help from rob and then the others that followed, I would have gotten injured, or have been no better off in stregnth gains and remained stagnant, still thinking " what am I doing wrong"

You gota eat to compete!!!! Get some. Nothing wrong with cuttin a little when it comes meet time, just not for extended periods of time.

I've found the powerlifting community one of the most giving. Everyone wants to help each other out and see each other improve. Much different than other sports I've competed in.

Yes sir. I'm not cutting until I'm chubby and considerably stronger than I am now. Gotst some work to do in the kitchen.

True. Everyone is helpful. Much different than what I initially thought ill admit. It's a great sport indeed

This guy sheds a different light on reasons for training. Though, I don't hate myself, lol, I def enjoy the suffer and growth.

Hey I'm all for getting stronger but there's no point to getting above 15% body fat.

When I was 210 I was at 17% and tying my shoes was not comfortable because I was constantly bloated from eating.

I got a lot stronger but life was harder from tying shoes to going up stairs

I agree with you, there comes a point where it just doesn't work. I would maybe fudge the numbers a little to account for the fact that I haven't been below 15% BF for any reasonable period of time since 2008. :D

I've hit a wall a few different times these past couple years where I experienced the shoe problems you're referring to. I feel like my body can only add useful bulk for a certain period of time before it all goes south fast. That's when I tug the reins, eat more salads, try to get my food from better sources, and give it another shot in a month or two. Never an out-and-out cut, just a reset.

The first time I had shoe issues, I weighed 222. Now I'm lacing up and breathing at the same time (don't take it for granted) weighing 235. One step back for the good of two steps forward.

What's your means of measuring? I was a legit 17% and was fairly lean (4 pack). The bio electric impedance and calipers put me at 13% and bod pod at 17%. Honestly, I had zero issues tying shoes and such, but I know where you're coming from.

I've never dirty bulked. Hell, this is the first time in 3 years I've experimented w/ fast food and sweets. I'm just interested in seeing how my body will respond. Im by now means planning on getting fat.

Bf is not a measure of that.

If you're poorly conditioned it doesn't matter if it's 13 or 20% body fat.

You could be 210 and 17% now and it will or will not be an issue based upon your conditioning.

My gym owner is 240 and somewhere between 15-20% and he is very well conditioned (strongman competitor) and he sure doesn't get winded tying his shoes, or going upstairs, or any everyday tasks.
