Jim's Powerlifting Training

Getting some more gym equipment this weekend. Clearing out the shed and then putting a horizontal hack squat, chest/shoulder press, abduct/adduct, hyperextension, mid row, and bicep/tricep in.

Should give me some more options to really hit weak muscles when I get back to powerlifting training after this 10 weeks with Paul.

That's awesome man. Nothing better than new gym stuff!

Really considering opening up a private powerlifting gym in my home. I might look into creating a website this week.

I'd like to open it up as a full scale gym in a warehouse someday, but I need to pay off some home improvements first and find some more time or someone willing to keep it ipen when I can't be there.

Looks like I may be making a trip up to Michigan to visit some family in the coming weeks. I might be getting some more gym equipment on my way back to Houston though, so it could be an eventful trip.

Looks like this is back on. Training for a meet on Sep. 9. If things go well, I will compete then. If not, next meet is December.

Mini session after work tonight:

a1. Band Pushdown: Light x 25 x 4
a2. Band Curl: Monster Mini x 25 x 4

Rev. Hyper: 90 x 25 x 2
Pullapart: Mon. Mini x 100

Good ME Squat today. Might be in a better position to PR than I thought.

Duffalo Comp. Squat: 180kg x 1

Invalid Link Removed

Belt Squat: 140 x 10 x 5
GHR: BW x 15 x 3

a1. Abductor: 70 x 15 x 2

Woof. Good session today.

Where at in Michigan?

1 white, 2 reds. I wish they'd use a Duffalo in competition.
I was thinking 2 whites, 1 red. I was planning to straight bar squat today originally, but since I had to do this the day before bench I figured I would save the elbows some.

Another mini session:

a1. Band Pushdown: light x 25 x 4
a2. Band Curl: Mon. Mini x 25 x 4

45 degree hyper: +25# x 25 x 2
Machine Mid Row: 4 x 25 x 2 (hoist machine has weird weight settings)

Tempering

HE Bench today

Comp Bench: 100kg x 3
CG Bench: 80kg x 8 x 3
High Inc. DB Bench: 55 x 12 x 2
Rope Pushdown (Hoist): 9 x 15, 8 x 15 x 2
Hoist Shoulder Press: 5 x 10 x 4 (30 sec rest)
Hoist Flat Press: 6 x 32

Notes: bench doesn't feel strong. That will definitely take some work. Still hopeful that I can match my 125kg meet PR. We shall see.

Depending on how DL goes at the meet I really *might* be able to get 1200 via 205/125/215, maybe even as a 165. Time will tell.

still gunning for 165?
That seems most likely. I'm hovering between 167-168 right now. I'll likely stay around 170 or so during meet prep and do a light water cut for weigh in and start gaining after the meet. No reason to bulk up this close to the competition because there isn't enough time to gain any real muscle mass.

was the original loss of weight intentional?

btw...we share the same sentiment for Weapon X.

Yes. I've been slowly slimming down since late March/early April. Was sitting at ~190 or so then.

Hopefully, he doesn't get passed up again. I thought for sure he would get the nod this past year.

LT was the only legitimate lock. You could easily argue his value over Davis, J Taylor and friggin' Morten Anderson. T.O. should have also been a lock. Sad part is Dawk will get overlooked because of Troy and Reed's postseason success once they become eligible.

I would've put him over Davis and put T.O. over Anderson, personally. Davis was great, but longevity has to count for something.

If Dawkins doesn't go next year he will almost certainly have to wait. I am willing to bet any amount of money that Reed and Troy go as first ballot guys and there is no way the voters put two safeties in the same class.

Should be bording in the next 40 minutes or so. Will be landing around 845 and then I'll be heading to MGG for a ME Deadlift session before I drive to MI.

Let us know how MGG is. When you drive past the "La Porte/Michigan City" exit on I-94, I live like 15 mins east of there.

MGG is awesome. Great group of guys out there. Very personable. Saw some 900lb squats and a 975 bench while I was deadlifting. Then watched some masochists put 270lb + 2 light bands on the belt squat for reps.

My session sucked though lol. I'll update when I get off the road in 3 hours lol.

So here is what I did today.

Con. DL (TDB): 365 x 1, 385 x F, 365 x 1
Deficit DL (beltless): 245 x 4, 275 x 5, 295 x 5
WG Pullup: BW x 8
Grenade Pullup: BW x 10, 8
WG Pulldown: 100 x 12 x 2
Cable Row: 120 x 15 x 2
Ab Wheel: BW x 8 x 2

Notes: deadlift felt good until it didn't. Seems like I've been bracing better for DL with no belt than with one. Might just compete beltless. I'll mess with the belt setting some and see if it helps. Would've liked to get a little more done, but needed to hit the road.

Effort Squats at Flex Fitness here in Holland. Not a bad place. Had to walk out squats like a peasant though.

SSB Squat: 325 + blue bands (seemed similar in thickness to light bands) x 2 (failed 3rd rep)

Invalid Link Removed

Axle Rack Pulls: 200 x 6, 250 x 6 (beltless)

Leg Press: 330 x 10 x 2

a1. GHR: BW x 10 x 3
a2. Hack Squat: 140 x 12 x 3

b1. Seated Calf: 45 x 15 x 2
b2. 45 degree hyper: BW x 12 x 2

Leg Raise: BW x 12 x 2

Notes: not bad. Thought I might get heavier on the squats when I was warming up, but they got heavy fast. Benchin' tomorrow for some reps.
