Jim's Powerlifting Training

Ugh. I like the price but it's 2" too tall.

He makes them all to order, so you can get it in any size.

Mine was an entirely custom footprint lol. Just had to stay on him to make sure he didn't forget the dimensions with all of the other stuff I had him make at the same time.

His name is RICK?

Yessir.

He responds to texts pretty quickly. If you happen to call him; make sure you have some time set aside because he loves to talk to people.

Great... The game is starting, I don't have time for that. lol

I'll send him a text.

I think you can probably pay any amount for a rack if you look hard enough, long enough. Just comes down to what you want and need and budget.

Can't look too long. I've got to act before my wife changes her mind. lol

If you want something new but on a tighter budget:

No chin-up bar but I would just do them on the crossbeam in the rack.

That's nice also. Leaves room for add-ons

Not a fan of the 3" spacing. I have a feeling I'd regret it. We had one at the gym like that. I had to unrack at an uncomfortable position OR try and stand on my tip-toes. I guess I could raise the platform a little?

If you like the scholastic, this is a good pack for what you may want:

I don't know how hard it would be to get Elite to cut that down to the right size (or what size it is to start with). Williams Strength makes all of their equipment, so they are more of a middle man.

I looked at all the packages. I couldn't justify spending $200 more just for a pull up bar when I could put one between rafters. And, I'd still have the 3" spacing. The one you linked has 2" from 48 and up, and 1" below.

We have an EFS bench at the gym, I don't wanna find it now to link but I saw it this morning in there for a grand - I love it, but I do think it's overpriced. But it is certainly good equipment.

The one I linked was basically only if you want something new but also wanna save $400 over the custom one Jim got.

I think I've seen it beforE, but will you post a pic of your rack base? I know how I'll do it , but not how big (wood/rubber).

Mine is 4 1/2" thick sheets of plywood together to make an 1"H x 8'W x 8'L platform.

On top is 2 3/4" sheets of plywood, 48"W x 61"L. Top sheet is red oak hardwood. Outside is 1.5" of horse stall matting cut to fit.

It would probably be easier to just use a full 4'x8' sheet on an 8'x8' platform for a middle insert and them cut to fit the rubber around it.

4 training days in a row now, was behind last week with school and had to fit it all in.

ME Bench Friday, DE Lower Sat, DE Bench yesterday, and ME Lower today

Last heavy deadlift is done.

2" Def Pull: 180kg x 1

Invalid Link Removed

BB RDL: 120kg x 4, +straps, 120kg x 5

GHR: BW x 8, 7, 5

TRX Fallout: BW x 8 x 2, BW x 6
Pallof Press: Green x 15

I feel like a stupid ass needing to figure out your weights every time I check your log haha but nice pull man. I hate any more than 2 training days in a row myself so good work on gutting it out

I don't even worry about lbs lol. My best competition pull was 197.5, that was 180 with a deficit and a lot of fatigue.

Seems like I'm in a good place right now.

What rubber did you go with?

I used horse stall mats from tractor supply. 3/4" thick, 4'x6' IIRC.

It would be near impossible to find a better value on rubber flooring than what they charge ($40 or so, I think)

Why do you deadlift outside the rack?

I'm asking because I don't know if I want to build a separate deadlift platform with its own band pegs or pull in the rack.

And, what's the size of that center red oak? I want to go ahead and start customizing mine.

Just squirt crazy glue all over some of the stall mat and throw a couple handfuls of glitter at it. Boom, custom AF.

I don't want to copy yours. Lol

My rack is only 24" depth, so it feels a little cramped deadlifting inside of it.

When I moved it in the house I decided to use the extra space to deadlift and do dumbbell work, so it just worked out better.

With a larger rack that wouldn't matter.

The center insert on mine is 48"W x 61"L. My rack, including weight storage, is 48"W x 59"L. Almost all racks will be 48"W, so you just need the insert (and platform in general, if you plan to deadlift inside of it) to be as long as your rack.

What bands are those? Grey and blue or grey and black?

And what mats did you buy from Tractor Supply? They have 1/2 and 3/4". I think only the 3/4" is large enough

Both are the ETS lights, just bought at a different time so the colors didn't match lol.

3/4"
I got under 385 today as well! Must be a Monday thing. Nice work Jim
Not a bad Monday for either of us then!

The 3 x 3 was with 85% of that weight, and then just HLR to finish out before work.

That's what I want, the 3/4". Is 20" on each side of the rack plenty?

That dude on Facebook is a coworker. We agree on some stuff politically, but his blind following of his candidate is nerve racking. Personally, I consider him a tool.

20" between it and a wall or just 20" of platform width on each side?

If the latter, it should be OK. I think the DL bars are 7.5' long so it's cutting it pretty close, but that shouldn't matter until you deadlift more than Eddie Hall.

I was about to comment on your log about it, that dude is something else man.
That was a great squat James, and what's a HLR?
Hanging Leg Raise

I will have 24" of rubber on each side instead of 20". I'm trying not to have more than two sheets plywood of the initial based. Rack will be 48x66".

Yeah, he has mad people skills.

Did he post some nonsense then delete it?

Got bit on my right forearm separating a dog fight a few hours ago.

Haven't gone to the doctor yet (uninsured) and am hoping I don't have to. Keeping it clean and put some Neosporin and a bandage over it. It's pretty painful right now, and I'm not even going go try benching today.

Maybe tomorrow.

What's it look like?

If the area stays clean you should be alright. Hopefullly the dog didn't have nasty bacteria in his mouth.

It's a puncture wound, pretty deep too. Didn't really clot all of the way up until late last night, and Everytime I clean it it bleeds a little.

Dog is vaccinated, but she's a rescue so anything could be going on in there. I know she has pneumonia right now, and is on broad spectrum antibiotics.

The real issue is that she is blind so when I grabbed her (bad idea, not sure why I did that) she bit down hard thinking it was the other dog. Let go right after, but the damage was already done.

I've been bitten by a husky as well. You're thinking the right thing with cleaning it. Keeping gauze and a wrap helps as well. It's going to hurt like hell when the area is under a lot of tension.

You're right about that, it hurts like a son of a bitch when I try to use that hand for certain things.

It's clotted up and has stopped bleeding now, I'm replacing the bandage and recleaning 3 times a day right now.

So far no signs of infection, but it's still early.

You think I could train without risking it opening up or getting infected? Meets coming up fast and this is seriously hampering my overreach lol.

You can try to train, but it's going to be a pain threshold thing.

Going to try to train tomorrow. SSB squats for a double and then a heavy single DL plus assistance.

Will only do a 1 week deload into the meet because of the impromptu rest days being thrown in.

Had to take 1 of the 2 dogs to the ER yesterday, she came down with pneumonia and I just picked her up an hour ago. Now they are both on antibiotics for pneumonia.....

Honestly extra rest shouldn't hurt the peak likely. Not resting enough hurts it more, in my opinion. Hope your dogs and wound get better, Jim.
