Jim: Performance is King Log.

Rodja, that picture makes me laugh every time I see it.

A few training updates for the future:

Heavy(heavier rep work) Deload this week (RE and DE work to replace ME and RE, respectively) and next week will be a full deload leading up to the Strongman Comp next Saturday. That is of course assuming I can get in on it this late, I'm heading out to the gym it's held at tomorrow to talk to Roger Ortmayer (the guy holding it, and father of WSM Competitor Travis Ortmayer) to try to sign up for it.

And I was due for a deload anyway (weights were HEAVY today, and shouldn't have been).

Also, I am going to start programming my training in 8 week waves (7 weeks training, 1 week Deloading) as a preventative measure (much like how Wendler schedules deloads even if they are not necessarily required at that point in your training). Starting to do more DE work for the Lower Body (still probably none for Upper except when deloading). Besides that everything should still stay the same in regards to how I've been doing it. The supplemental exercise rotation is going to be a bit more concrete than it has been, and I will also be adding in more pause squatting after ME Squat sessions (right at that sticking point).

I'm also gonna work on my Sumo DL a little more (it's not my comp lift, but it may be some day) and it is absolutely atrocious. Way weaker than Con., and there shouldn't be as much of a difference between the two of them as there is currently.

So, yeah.

I probably won't ever post the 8 week training blocks on here (trade secrets and whatnot  ) but if any of you guys are interested (after I map it out) I could be persuaded into posting up here (or more likely, emailing it to anyone who wants to critique it or whatever)

Besides that I will also be doing more Heavy OHP for the foreseeable future.

1. Because I want cartoonish delts like Dan Green

and

2. Because I need to be stronger OHP for any strongman stuff I decide to do in the future

And did some Strongman stuff today.

My knees are WEAK (expected).

Definitely going to be an issue for yoke walks (was today), very well may be getting some sleeves to add support to my event practice.

Getting some athletic tape to wrap my forearms for stones, the ones I used today had been baking in the sun and I think I got third degree Burns ON my stone rash.

<---- knees are killing me from the yoke today.

There's gotta be a technique to the yoke. I mean, not so much that you can technique the shyt out of it, but there has to be a way that doesn't make your knees hurt.

My knees will almost always hurt.

The only tips I got from the ex-strongman competitor at my gym was to tighten the **** out of your upper back and pick it up at your normal walking width.

From watching WSM my guess is short quick steps.

My knees were just real shaky and kept wanting to buckle under me.

But they've been that way for a couple years now, the Army said it was genetic and that was that.

They were killing me after my PL meet.

Maybe try to screw your feet into the ground each step just to secure that ACL? Just find out which wraps are most supportive and get them as tight as you can.

Mine were killing me after my meet, just because the max effort weight got my knees shooting forward a bit. Gotta get the hips stronger.

If its anything its probably the LCL as the pain is on that part of the joint (and has been since I enlisted).

They told me improper patellal tracking which inflames the joint causing pain/weakness.

They hurt daily, sometimes worse than others.

DLs, Squats, Yoke, running, standing a lot, walking long distance it all hurts.

I just get over it, that's why I figure I'll get sleeves or something to minimize it.

I could try screwing my feet in but I think that would even take away from my knee stability.

OK, so Monday:

Worked up to 315 x 1 sumo (form was God awful) and then up to 385 x 2 which was way heavier than it should've been.

sumo block pulls: 275 x 8 x 3
Tuesday: did some stone loads up to a chest high stand.

150 x 3, 165 x 2, 210 x F (about 2" short of the stand)

Got some stone rash and a little burn action from the stones. They had been baking all day in the Texas heat and they were HOT (they have a black coat on them).

Yoke walk: 215 x 30 yds x 2, 395 x 15yds

Knees got shaky and incredibly unstable. I am allowed my wraps for the competition but I think I might just get sleeves for it and for when I rep squat to minimize the wear and tear. I don't want to use them very often for ME because I can't get used to them if I can't compete with them.

And today:

Bench : 185 x 8 x 2 (comp grip, no arch)

OHP: 95 x 5, 135 x 2
+Push
135 x 3, 155 x 4, 135 x 5

a1. Pullup: +25 x 5 -- BW x 3, +25 x 5 -- BW x 3
a2. High pulley Face pull: 85 x 15, 80 x 15

b1. Strict DB Row: 70 x 6 x 2, 75 x 6 x 2
b2. Incline DB Bench AMAP in 30 seconds: 50 x 13, x 20, x 22, x 25
b3. Tate Press: 35 x 6 x 3, 35 x 4

So yeah. No preworkout the last couple of days. Heading into a full deload next week, and again restructuring my training to follow a more rigid schedule this weekend.

Doing Lower tomorrow, then heading to the Fitness 1-on-1 on Saturday to work with Roger on the events for next Saturday.

Flipped the fingals fingers today to get an idea of it. Should be practicing most of the events this Saturday.

The events for the competition are:
Fingals Fingers
Yoke/Conans Wheel
Wheelbarrow Load then Carry
Farmers Carry
Keg Toss
Stone Load

herderdude, so you are the only person I know of on here that has any experience with Strongman stuff so PLEASE answer my questions!

Did the stone load on Tuesday, started with my belt on but it just felt weird and I think it's because its too thick for some of the events.

EFS is having a sale on belts so I was wondering if you guys think that this belt:

Invalid Link Removed

might be better for that. Any ideas?

Also, I know I already asked but before I buy are the EFS Heavies going to be worth it or do I want super heavies or just bite the bullet and pay the extra for Titan?

I have 36" and 24" APT wrist wraps, various colors, mainly black/red/blue. All comparable springiness, not too cast-like.

How long and what color you thinking? Your fed allow APA gear? USAPL does not, USPA does...

Ummmm, I don't know.

Is 36" better than 24" for any reason, because I'm kinda thinking just 24".

I don't know what APA gear is, but the excerpt from the WPC rule book about wrist wraps says:

a) Wrists - Wraps not exceeding 1m in length and 8cm in width may be worn. Alternatively, elasticated wrist bands not exceeding 10cm in width may be worn. A combination of the two is not permitted. If wrist bands are of the wrap-around style, they may have a thumb loop not to be attached during lift and velcro patch for securing them. A wrist wrap shall not exceed beyond 10cm above and 2-1/2cm below the center of the wrist joint, not exceeding a total of 12cm in both directions.

So I don't know if the APA gear is not that....

Any color would be alright, black or blue preferably.

If you're having belt issues, my first thought would be to spin it around backwards. Sometimes it's nice to rest implements on a belt (axle, stone). If you still don't like it, you should be able to go without. I normally don't do stones or tire with a belt.

I had it turned around, I guess I'll continue to go without for stones.

Thanks man.

I'm gonna get some video of the practice on Saturday so you can give me some tips for technique issues I can fix before the competition.

Alright, I'll try my best to help you out, I just don't know how technically proficient I am in the implements.

Lol, even so, you're probably more technically proficient than I am!

Went in and did some Lower Body today, nothing too heavy.

DE Lower:

Pre: 1 Condense

Intra: Water

Warmup: Necessary Foam Rolling, Hip Flexor Stretches, Wall Squat, Wall Adductor Stretch, Standing Pidgeon Stretch, OH Squat, Hip Flexor Stretch (again) Work up to 225 x 2 Pause Squat

DE Pause Squat, 3 sec pause: 185 x 2 x 3, 205 x 2 x 3

Was prescribed 241, but the speed wasn't there with 225 so I dropped it down.

HB Oly Squat w/ Oly Shoe: 225 x 8 x 2

Concentric only GM w/ Oly Shoe: 135 x 6, 185 x 6 x 2

a1. BB Roll Out: BW x 8, ---
a2. Box Step Up: 45 x 3-->30 x 3, 30 x 6

Core cramped up hard and I couldn't even do the second set. I seriously have no idea why this happens....

Anyway, pretty quick pace today. Continuing with my transition into the full deload.

Know anyone who competes in the WPC who posts on here?

APT was kicked out of USAPL I believe bc they didn't pay their fees, so they don't allow their gear. USPA does though.

Wouldn't want to sell you wraps you cannot use for meets, unless you just want them for training.

Rodja and napalm both do.

Maybe one of them can chime in.

APF falls under the feds overseen by the WPC. At the two meets I've done, they haven't done gear checks. From my understanding, wrist wraps are ok for raw.

Yeah, rules say they're gtg as long as they're 1M x 8cm.

I just didn't know if brand mattered.

It sounds like they'lol be fine.

You think I should get 24" or 36"?

I'm thinking 24"....

This is our concern, dude. <img src="http://anabolicminds.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=89405"/>

Woke up at 630 with my kid butt naked next to me because he learned to take his diaper off.

Shave you head at least since you can have a beard now
That sounds terrible.

Wife says no dice.

Have a kid like Sean said. Deep sleep and long nights are gone. Enjoy it now young man :)
I'm gonna enjoy it forever if I can have it my way!

Birth control doesn't work Jim. Be advised. My kid is proof of that!
We got that Mirena thing that you aren't supposed to get until after you had a kid right before I got out lol.
This is our concern, dude.

I see no reason for concern lol

Shut the **** up, Donnie.

Did you know when he writes the check in the beginning, that it's dated 9/11, and Bush Sr was talking about the Middle East on tv?

1.5 enhanced

Fingals fingers: got the 1, 2, and 3. Didn't finish the 4 but I'm confident I can Saturday.

Yoke Zercher carry : 340 x40ft

This is gonna be rough in the medley, the Conan followed by yoke (450 each)

Keg throw: 25, 30, 35, 40 x 4-5 times

Might finish this out Saturday, that 40 is pretty rough though.

Stone: 225 x F

This'll be rough, I expect to do alright up until the stones. We start with 225 over a 50" bar, highest I've ever done was 210.
