Is Beta Phenylethlamine the same as phenylethylamine?

same. beta pea is just more formal. tech its 2-Phenylethan-1-amine. just don't end up buying phenylalanine instead.
 
B-PEA is what we refer to as PEA, A-PEA is generally listed some other way usually as 1-PEA.

Short answer yes B-PEA is PEA.

They both have a phenyl group and an amine group.

Phenylalanine could be thought of as Phenyl-propyl-amine-ol-one.

A phenyl group is also the "phe" in "amphetamine" and the "amine" indicates an amine group.

A phenyl group is 6 carbon ring with conjugated double bonds. If you look at structural diagrams of these molecules, it's the part that looks like a hexagon with three lines inside (or occaaasionally a circle inside a hexagon)

The Amine indicates that there's a nitrogen atom bound to either carbon or hydrogen (or both)

So for instance NAC is another amino acid we're familiar with. N-acetyl-cysteine means cysteine with an acetate ester attached to the Nitrogen/amine group.

Ok, here things get a little confusing but here goes. In PEA, the "beta" means the amine group is on the second carbon of the ethyl group. It's sort of an unusual use of Alpha and Beta. Really, IMO, they should just call it 1-PEA and 2-PEA but I digress.

In that regard, all phenylalanine is 2-phenylalanine or "Beta-Phenylalanine" so to speak. However, this gets confusing because Phenylalanine is a chiral molecule and PEA is not. So, when we talk about alpha vs beta in terms of Phenylalanine, it's in regards to whether the amine group is pointing up or down.

Now to add another wrinkle to that, because there is this ambiguity in the alpha vs beta vs Alpha vs Beta nomenclatures in chiral amino acids they'll use D and L instead of alpha or beta. so a mix of alpha and beta phenylalanine could be called DL-Beta-Phenyl-propyl-amine-ol-one OR DL-1-Phenyl-2-amino-propyl-3-ol-3-one or any number of other nomenclatures.

PEA is a stimulant. How long effects are noticeable is subjective.

It's alot like amphetamine but breaks down very quickly. Like acetycholine is the main neurochem for memory pea is for focus and mood. So it's a mood booster. I like it but it's effects are short lived. DMPEA is much better imho.
