Hydrolyzed Collagen

I received these protein liquid enhancer drops today. Per serving, there is 20 grams of protein. Here is the label though:

Proprietary Protein Matrix (Hydrolyzed Collagen and Whey Protein Isolate), Purified Water, Malic Acid, Natural Flavors, Propylene Glycol (to preserve freshness), Sucralose, L-Tryptophan, Potassium Sorbate (to preserve freshness), Sodium Benzoate (to preserve freshness), FD&C Red #40 and FD&C Blue #1.

From what I have read, hydrolyzed collagen is made up of a couple of different amino acids. My question essentially is, is this product really 20 grams of protein per serving or is it spiked and less than that?

I don't trust anything that says "Proprietary blend". That means there could be any ratio of the ingredients listed. That's why they're listed in aggregate.
Collagen protein has a very poor biological value. Biological value is a somewhat outdated term, though. The protein digestibility corrected amino acid score is more trustworthy. Even then it still sucks.

If you're thinking of using the collagen for joint/connector repair, the human body is generally pretty good at synthesizing it. I know that some studies showed the coenzyme Q 10 aided in that synthesis.

Not sure why it's hydrolyzed, either. That simply means some of the peptide bonds have been broken with water. I can see that being a plus for a post workout why, but not sure why you'd need collagen that quickly.

Forgive me if you know everything I've just said. I see you're far from a newb :-)

I wouldn't consider it 20 grams of protein personally, as collagen is an incomplete protein if I recall.

Edit: Pretty much what Synapsis said in his thread above ;)

I can't say that I would try this. I saw it online and really did not impress me.

Very incomplete. Gelatin protein is probably the only protein with a worse amino acid profile (for humans).

Its amino acid profile is so poor that the protein itself contains no essential amino acids, though threonine is required for collagen synthesis.

The great debate man, is a calorie a calorie? Since a protein is not a protein and a fat is not a fat and a carb is not a carb then a calorie is NOT a calorie IMO

One gram of hydrolyzed collagen is still 4 calories, its amino acid profile notwithstanding...

Mind blown
