Hyde Attacks the Optimum Alpha Stack

Nice job man. Time to work some calves...

Nice day! Way to get it! Where's your baby powder?

Nice job man. Time to work some calves...

Lol yeah that's the secret right there, brother

Nice day! Way to get it! Where's your baby powder?

Man I loaded it on! Must have fallen off more than I thought cuz the bar died pretty hard before I started the hitch.

Good pull brother. Gettin fekkin strawng wit it mane

Thanks - wish I had gotten more vids! Ian Darr Logpressed 420lbs. YouTube him if you wanna see some serious feats of strength. Nicest guy at the show too. Lots of 800+ 18in blockpulls today (just below knee for most guys), w a few 9-970 and 2 guys going 1,045-1,075.

Hoping to get my pull vids up tomorrow.

Nice job man!

I noticed that my hips rise in tandem w the bar on 555, while they shoot up some on 585 before the weight breaks. I think that's the biggest reason I had to hitch: if I'd maintained that wedge I would have been able to get through better. Still, it all counts in strongman!

Only had 5 min probably between attempts; my conditioning has never felt that good and I'm inclined to believe the religious epicatechin and beta alanine dosing are to thank. Nothing in my training lately has been an even average level of volume for me, and my weight has only gone up, but my preparedness was better than ever yesterday. No complaints!

Snagged this - 1,045 off 18in blocks from the same guy who passed out w the 500# keg at our show:

Yeah i notice what you're saying in regards to your hips shooting up on 585. I agree that you probably couldve locked it out smoothly if you kept that wedge.

Congratulations Hyde!! Nice job!!

Got to join my buddy for the first time at the gym he trains at; turns out one of the owners was not only in the show yesterday but was also the only other 242 puller (so I did beat someone for that medal lol) and let me lift for free. Very cool guy and very good gym.

Incline Press was a fat PR! Never really overhear pressed w the axle heavy so I was glad it was within 2-3 reps of my barbell strict max. Tried to keep volume lower after having last week off so I can train it again in 2 days but I had very high RPE most sets. Awesome day and a great time.

Looks like a fun session!

Heavy inclines man.

Geez! Heavy arse incline press! Beast!

It was a blast. Goal was just to check max on incline and get some quality pressing and pulling in.

Had my epicatechin pills w me for the day but hadn't packed extra Preworkout as I didn't plan that training so used a sample pack of NPF I C Red they were passing out at the show. It was supposedly a full 2 scoop serving, but for all it did I could have bought a cup of coffee honestly. Really threw into contrast how quality a product Preworkout has been to me. I always try to only buy products I believe are going to deliver so I forget how many truly underwhelming products are on the market.

Nice work Hyde, looking thick and huge in your video too! Well done!

Needed to establish a couple more maxes for the next training cycle. Got them and packed it up - I was beat going into the gym and an hour of heavy work was all I had in me. Still, glad to get a couple 10lb PRs after maxing dead Saturday and incline yesterday.

Hey man those are some nice prs, 10lbs a piece is a good day. Especially with how fatigued you have to be after deads over the weekend and that session yesterday.

Why no sleeves on the warmups? Isn't the purpose for it to warm up your knees?

It will, but they also provide some stopping power and a feeling of security that is confidence-inspiring to a degree. I intentionally hold them back, like my belt, as a handicap. That's all the gear I get so I hold it off for higher effort sets and the jump then feels less dramatic. I take 405 full raw and I put a belt and sleeves on and 455 is actually easier for example. Kinda like warming up on deads while standing on a 45. When you drop the plate off for your first work set it feels like cake.

Good endurance tonight. Focused on meat and potatoes work since that's what the next 2 sessions will be over the holidays; trying to go for frequency over volume as I intend to hit squat/bench/chins on Christmas Eve. Also may or may not be involved in a tandem benchpress that day lol

Man. You've had some great sessions lately. Nice snatch work.

Man. You've had some great sessions lately. Nice snatch work.

Honestly the last time I was taking OA's Epicatechin everything seemed to improve. I've been eating to be strong both then and now and that has to be huge, and in general I have been pretty hungry mentally to get stronger since probably August. Everything but comp squat seems to be improving.

..lots of volume there Hyde...

I honestly thought it was low. 3 hard sets on bench, 1-2 on pulls, 2 on rows, and 3 on axle press. Still, for a guy not on cycle it's probably optimal to live to train again sooner instead of getting very sore. I skipped the GHR and any more pulling today so I'll be ready to squat hard Thursday.

Welcome to the club on squats. How much harder do you feel the axle bar makes OP? I need to give it a try sometime.

IMO it feels better. It's not much harder, but it feels better on the body.

Not tremendously, but there is something nice about it I can't pinpoint like Herder mentioned. I believe my best strict barbell amrap w 185 is 7 reps recently, and I hit 185x4 after maxing incline Sunday so if fresh I'm sure I'd have done 185x5 at least for comparison. 5% power loss maybe?

It may be easier on that hand as it spreads the weight out better, btw, when you try pressing again.

We're on the same page about that last point brother. I was thinking the same thing. I'm interested to try it and see what this mysterious niceness is all about.

You don't close your hand as much and so your elbow isn't as bound up. Works especially well for bench, too. Definite drop off on bench, but it's not big.

What sleeves do you use? I see in Herders log that the SBDs are tight enough to give stopping power, I don't believe mine are at all.

Stopping power isn't from tightness nearly as much as material displacing space. Part of why elbow sleeves aren't allowed on bench at a meet. If you have a layer of material on either side of the joint and you squat down or lower the bar on bench the material gets sandwiched and ultimately decreases ROM a bit. Same way gaining weight increases leverage.

I have a pair of old Titan neoprene sleeve so blown out the tops won't stay up. I actually pull them on over my chucks they're so blown. I also have a pair of XL Titan Yellowjackets I have to roll on and save those for comp bench days only. But front squat and narrow hi bar I squat deep as possible and use the pileup of the old sleeves to determine where I squat to. Otherwise it would be full hams on calves.

Today was try not to be a sorry out of shape loser. About 50 min of GPP. Treadmill and small tire and baby farmers and curls lol. Feel really good, bloodflow everywhere.

Not stopping power, rebound.

Yeah rebound in the Yellowjackets. My old Titans are so blown and collapsed they actually do provide stop as they pile up THICK if I squat deep, but zero rebound.

Dude the yellow jackets are HARD as to put on lol I got the meet fit and I'm sweating by the time I get them even close to where they should be

Today was supposed to be squat bench and chins but I guess Christmas Eve is a PR breaker day at this gym so things got a little derailed after squat:

Bet you guys don't see that every day! We had to share the inner knurling so that arm was super close grip and the outside arm is extra wide, but it was a blast! 475 is about 10lbs shy of a 2nd attempt and moved really well so I cut it off and got a bit of work in. 295 was easy as it's ever been also.

Now that's different! Merry Christmas Hyde!

Teamwork! Congratulations on the PR! Merry Christmas brother!

Huge pulls man. Huge.

That is tandomly ghey...

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Not for 18in, 700-900 is pretty common. It's a mega-cheater lift. It's the bro 1/4 squat of deadlifts lol

And yeah we thought so too, but not as ghey as sharing one bench

Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the day!

Tonight had the pleasure of training in a random health club, solo. Gal at the counter let me have at it for free; I think she could see I meant business and figured I wouldn't be a liability. Or she was just spreading some holiday love lol

Saw some ridiculous stuff, worse than I expected, and it was a balmy 70 degrees so I was sweating pretty hard, but nobody knew me or tried to talk to me so training was really great. The bar was bowing with only 405 on it, but there were no different bars so that's on them.

Starting to try to bring volume up some and mind rests a bit more to help prepare for meet prep in a couple weeks. Really noticed some great pumps tonight and energy was solid.

Tomorrow is last session on this stack. Bench and pressing!

You get easly spoiled with the good squat bars I was doing those strap yoke walks tue with 335 an thought the bar was going to snap

Yeah I mean it's not like I was trying to PR so it was just fine for getting it done. Probably great to pull with straps (not for the bar, but for how much slack it would give)
