Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Wife took 2nd Place 🥈 out of 5 lifters in the 40+ lightweight women (under 64kg/141lbs) Saturday. And she only missed first by a single point! Took 3rd on the Barbell & Axle Press Medley, 2nd on the Hummer Tire Trapbar Deadlift for Reps, 1st on the Sandbag Load & Sled Drag Medley, 1st in the Yoke Carry, and 2nd in the Loading Race. She had no troubles at all with the knee that had been aching the last week or so, and she executed a perfect performance with no mistakes - there was nothing else she could or should have done any better. Winning is always the goal (& she absolutely gave it everything she had), but she earned what she was capable of so we’re very proud of how things turned out! And relieved her knee is feeling healthy still.

We went out for a date night afterwards, exploring the Bricktown area after a great dinner together. Took a water taxi trip around the canal downtown, got gelato, had some fun. It was a great trip with no kids, getting to spend some time connecting and being able to focus on us for a change. OKC was a great experience; despite the high temps, the low humidity & breeze made it incredibly comfortable for me - way better than the swamp we had to come back home to. How I can be sweating at 75* here and not at 104* there outside is still baffling to me. And people just seemed friendlier overall. Would definitely go back.

That’s an awesome showing! Congratulations to your wife and unless I missed anything, best of luck on your prep!

Man that is great, and very impressive that she took first on two lifts, second on two lifts and one third. And only missing first by one point…..she is elite.🏆

Wow! She did great! Awesome trophy too!

Oklahoma has low taxes too if I remember correctly, worked a few sites around OKC mild winters too in comparison to Illinois.

The trip made it necessary to modify training and therefore diet somewhat. Ate keto on Saturday until we went to dinner, ate whatever I wanted Sunday as we drove home but tried to keep calories moderate, and pushed things some Monday in preparation for today’s training - but kept calories probably closer to that 4k mark if I had to guess (since I was loading for over 2 days).

This was last real squat & pull training, 12 days out. 3 singles each around 88-90% of what I did 9 days ago, and I am calling it good for this prep. I still have one last comp bench day tapering down, and I’ll hit 50-60% on Tuesday for all 3 at 6 days out for some technical practice. Might be some back accessories thrown in here and there, but that’s it for comp work.

just gonna sit here in a squat with a casual 518 on my back for a moment, nbd

Well I wasn’t supposed to pause it, but I had come down fast and sat into my right hip more on 507, which I did not want to happen again. So I lowered 518 slower and really made sure to sit evenly into both hips at depth, but ended up pausing it I was thinking so much about owning the position. Fortunately it was still really easy (because I was in perfect position probably) so it was useful enough. My 2 light backoff triples after I really pushed speed to reinforce a quick reversal.

Some random AAS tidbits: I dropped Tbol for the 4 days I was gone & just took 50mg Var solo instead. This was to give my gut a little break before the final 2 week push. Switched back to 40 Tbol & 25 Var yesterday.

Also took 20 Halo this morning before last squats/pulls. I have enough that I could push it the last 9 days I believe, but I am not sure I want to deal with that added stressor. Will probably just bump Var to 50/day and call it good.

What’s your take on halo so far? Do you get the aggression like Tren ace or is there any comparison?

Well, 20mg does something for aggression. The bridge was closed a block or two before the gym this morning, so I had to park my car and walk through their construction site over the creek with all my gear to get to training. Which pissed me off, but not too badly. And when I left the site was active, so I just bulldozed my way right through it with a look daring someone to try to stop me. The guys just told me to be careful because they’re doing line work; they’re not trying to fight at 8am just to protect someone being stupid lol.

It does seem like it’s easier to flip the switch. And I do feel extra neural drive these sessions I’ve used it, like I can keep driving my way through a lift.
