Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

First, I hate to hear the news about lil man... I hope he does not need surgery, even if so, as long as he has a full recovery that is what is important and at his age that is very likely.

Congrats on all of the PR's, and mostly the deadlift, it has been a hard 5 years fight for you and you stuck with it and persevered. You are an example to all of us what can be done in the face of adversity. Your discipline and tenacity is not only impressive, but honorable!
You got the Legend status haha.. I don't know if you remember me but nice to see you around.

Yesterday (Wednesday) we saw the ortho for my son. X-rays showed things will not need surgery if the angle of his bones doesn’t progress. His inner forearm bone has 13* of angulation; they don’t advise surgery unless it exceeds 15*. But being close to the tolerance and with the window for an optimal surgery closing fast, they want one more set of X-rays this Monday to ensure he’s still in range.

So to help guard against any further angle progression, they sawed a slit in the top of his cast, gently pressed the bone towards proper alignment, and inserted a plastic wedge over the forearm that takes up more space inside the cast to help prevent any flexing. Then they wrap new cast over that! I was very impressed by the level of care, them doing that to help ensure the next 4 days produce the result we need.

My son didn’t complain or whine one bit; I was very proud of him. He likes his power upgrade!

Man that’s great news! Glad little man has a good experience with his treatment.

Very good news! Sounds kinda miserable so impressive he didn’t balk at all having the wedge placed!

That’s good news….hopefully everything will stay in position and he won’t need the surgery. Glad he’s taking everything so good. That tough little guy sees his cast as a trophy.

Last real squat in the books; 9 days out. Wore my singlet, lifted out of the combo rack, and took start/rack commands like it will be at the meet. Felt heavy today, but that’s expected just 5 days after taking 90 & 93%. Normally I have 9-10 days between squats. Bad ankle was also hurting a lot today with the short turnaround (while it normally doesn’t), so I didn’t do stepups. What I’d gain in stimulus isn’t worth further tissue aggravation. Now it’s time to just hit it with GLOW every day, tissue and mobility work, & let it heal up.

Probably a very light bench day Sunday with some easy accessory. I told my ART guy what’s been going on with the pain touching on bench & he agreed it sounded like tissue adhesions. He started finding all kinds of stuff on my left arm as expected. I don’t believe he understood the trauma the peaking cycle inflicts until he got to see how gunky things were after the last few weeks of 90-100% weights. Definitely could tell an improvement in mobility after leaving yesterday.

Final training completed for the meet next Sunday. Worked up to my last warmup on bench, a few speed pulls, and some easy accessories (100 reps of Pullaparts & Pressdowns, plus single-leg work & abs).

Everything felt incredible and was positively flying. We really got a lot of adhesions removed with ART this week that allowed me to finally bench properly: painless touching at the right point with full power off the chest all the way to lockout. 60% deadlift was so fast if you blinked you’d miss it - on the last pull I visualized the final deadlift attempt loaded up, seeing the victory.

I’m ready.

The way this prep has been coming together I think you’re going to have a great meet. Definitely wouldn’t be surprised to see you have a PR total.

Sounds like great news!! Excited for you on this meet coming up man 💪🏻💪🏻

Donated a pint today, which will drop a few points of hematocrit for a safer weightcut this weekend. I always feel better right away while lifting too (from the reduced BP and thickness).

Got more X-rays on my son’s arm - after pushing on the fracture then shimming over it inside his cast last Wednesday, the angle dropped from 13* to 10*, so it’s looking great. They also saw good bone callus beginning to form over the fractures as well. We’ll Xray it again next Tuesday, but if that’s good he’ll get his cast off on the 18th at 5.5 weeks post!

somehow I missed all your updates but I'm glad to hear you're getting good news on your boy!!!
Great prep work, I love the patience, sticking to the plan, the fortitude. I know in some ways its old hat at this point for you but it's always great to see you in comp prep mode, planning the last practice lifts, then switching gears to recovery, weight manipulation etc. its like sept baseball building into the big games.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your support.

Peaking really is a process, both intense and boring in a lot of ways - things get really focused, and the concept of fun or enjoyment goes out the window. It’s time to sharpen the blade to prepare for execution, on the day when & where it matters, to collect on what’s already been earned.

Even sleeping in an hour, did not want to get up and felt pretty stiff at the start of today. But this was really useful; everything was moving so much better after getting into the gym and just getting the blood pumping, breaking a sweat.

Won’t go into the gym again before the meet. Probably just take a couple walks and some mobility at home this week. Only 10lbs up and it’s 4 days out from weighins (Sat @2pm). So I will eat normally for today and evaluate tomorrow if I want to start increasing water yet. I think it’s going to come off fast & I don’t have much to cut, so I don’t want to start flushing too soon.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your support.

That would be a good poster in a powerlifting gym or any gym for that matter.

In case anyone was considering it, drinking blended ground turkey & rice is a LOT tougher than a chicken shake.
do you reckon you get more protein in when doing the meat shakes, or do you prefer the source/quality of the protein? I was just pondering this and knowing what I do about the protein content in a chicken breast, seems like a couple scoops of whey would do the job but not taste like vomit 😂

<does math>
I suppose you could blend probably 12oz of chicken into a shake for 80g of protein though.

Funny how chicken soup, or pho broth all taste great and sound delicious yet the idea of a chicken protein shake is off putting.

I can’t remember if it was in this thread or MrKleen’s thread and they were talking about chicken shakes. So take some cooked chicken and blend it up in broth with a little seasoning and it’s a chicken soup shake. Sounds more palatable like that vs just blending some meat in water and choking it down 😂😂😂😂

It was mainly about trying to get in clean calories. 8oz ground turkey with seasoning and the rice is probably 800 calories.

I have eaten a lot of taco turkey and rice this prep overall, and it’s been good up until I hit the peak. Main reasons being more dirty foods introduced to load the days before peak sessions, then Anadrol on them killing appetite sympathetically. So when you have been overeating and getting your gut hit by orals, you lose the desire to eat what was once fine.

Anyway, I’m taking orals this week since Friday, been a mix of some Anavar and old Xtren I thought I’d play with. And meat & rice is killing me. Spent 25 minutes the last 4-5 times I’ve tried to eat it, absolute force feed.
So after breakfast of that today, I thought blending it for meal 2 MIGHT be easier. It was faster, but I had to stop about 4/5th through when the gagging was risking an upchuck.

Yes, if you take warm broth with chicken it’s really just a soup. Maybe add some salt & pepper and spices you like.

Otherwise, cold chicken, cold water, and pound it as fast as you can.

OK that def makes sense then. So generally speaking the chicken shake idea is more about getting additional quality calories in quickly then if I'm understanding you right.

With the meat and rice combo, and honestly even with just salad, I have to use something or it doesnt work. I have a ton of zero calorie hot sauces I'll smother it in which works 2 fold because then I end up crushing a shaker of water with it, and if calories allow I'll use something like an aioli or ranch. for me it's a delicious breakfast but again, I'm not fighting the anadrol or necessarily attempting a clean bulk so when in a deficit, damn near everything tastes like a treat lol.

Yeah chicken shake is nice for a normal diet where you wanted to eat diet, but didn’t actually want to chew all the chicken. You could just eat some warm rice & veg with soy sauce or whatever & drink the chickenshake with it. It’s an option when the chewing gets to be too much.

Appetite suppression from orals disturbing the gut is pretty different than anything else; it’s just a total disinterest in eating. Even when things taste very palatable, you’ll need to force yourself to start eating and find you VERY quickly do not want to continue. I imagine it’s not dissimilar to all the people taking GLP1s, as gut motility is slowed by both. Except those people aren’t still trying to get down 3500+ calories.

Man I do always love how easy eating is when you’re hungry! It’s hard when the meal is over and you just wish there was more food, but I love being ready & excited to eat when it’s time. A bowl of baby carrots and 2tbsp of peanut butter can be such a treat.

People really don’t realize or understand what it takes to be a high level powerlifter. The dedication and sacrifice it takes not just in training, but diet, supplements, and using anabolics strategically to compete at that level is way more than people think. And those that just think of us that lift as shallow meatheads, have no clue of the knowledge, research, and studying it takes to do it right, especially at Hyde’s level.💪😎

Brought water up to 1.5 gallons yesterday, which is a lot for no training or sweating for me. Kept carbs and salt normal. Today pushing for 2 gallons & minimizing carbs & sodium - probably mainly pork chops and almonds. Goal is to keep calories as high as possible (to retain actual tissue) but strip some electrolytes & begin flattening out a little. 50 hours until weighins.

I appreciate you saying that. I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a high-level lifter, but I would consider myself an “advanced dinosaur” as Brooks Kubik would say.

I can compete at the national level, and everything I’ve built has come from experience & knowledge acquired. I wasn’t born to be strong, but I made myself a lot stronger than I’d have been otherwise!

If you don’t mind keep posting in detail on your water cut. I want to see if what you’re doing is similar to what I’ve been told to do.

its true, the dude has already forgotten more than I'll ever know about the subject

whether thats true or not, you're practically a scientist around here. your mental archive of information is incredible! What a person can typically count on you for isn't just the "take this much this often" regiments, but the scientific and biological "why this works" information.

Thank you; I think that’s the most interesting part. The truth is you could do a lot worse than just copying tried & true proven protocols from others that came before, and that will get you 80% of the way. It’s the minutia that can allow for personal customization, that really helps you get that last bit. Just like autoregulating your training.

I second this. I’ve hit @Hyde up on PM’s about cycle advice and peak week preps and he never hesitates to take time to give detailed explanations. It’s much appreciated!

Hope weigh ins go good. Time to rest and eat.
Tomorrow at 2pm. About 28 hours until rehydration begins.

Weighed 247.6lbs at 7am before drinking today.

Yesterday consumed 2 gallons of water and 3 meals, carbs probably 40g. Eggs, pork chops, a little cheese and yogurt and small ceasar salad. Very low sodium.

Today I’ll probably have a gallon or so and cut things off early evening. 2 meals planned, both pork chops & almonds. Need to take an extra dose of magnesium soon to see if I can’t empty out a little more.

Definitely feeling the cut already; heart is pounding after I take stairs. Lots of fatigue.
