Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

0/14/19

Lots of light DB & Hammer Curls

-Chest Supported Row
-Side Laterals

-Cable Rows from high attachment
-Arnold Presses

-Seated Low Cable Rows
-DB Rear Delt Flyes

-Underhand Pulldowns
-Seated Military Press

12,10,8,6 was rep scheme for everything besides curls. Back and shoulders pretty swoll up, nothing pushed to the max. Very very achey and beat up at the start from Saturday so just focused on bloodflow and bodybuilding - feeling better for it. It’s funny as I type this up how there’s 10 exercises I went through at minimum 4 sets each, and this whole session was easier than a hard 5x8 on Pendlay Rows or SLDL.

Only just found this log....note to self, check the worklogs section more.

Looks awesome though brother, been reading back a few pages, mock comp sounded wicked.

Looking forward to following from now

It feeds the biceps or it gets the hose again.

This explains why I’ve been getting the hose so much lately...

Haha welcome aboard! It’s about to get pretty boring in here training-wise til comp. Everything is basically deloading at this point & watching my diet (need to be 4kg lighter at weighins next Friday) to make an easy water cut.

Current cycle layout (per day):
100mg Methyl DHT-Oxime
50mg Super-diol
20mg Dymethazine
1,250mg Epiandrosterone
800mg 4DHEA
270mg 19DHEA
90mg Raloxifene
12.5mg Exemestane
500 iu HCG e3-4d

Just started week 12. PCT starts beginning of week 14.

Fancy-azz-cycle! :)

Well I needed to use up some old stuff like the andros with lipids in them. I have stored them well and they’re actually still perfect, so may sell of the rest now that I know they’re safe. I ain’t trying to sell a $150 bottle of Primordial stuff and find out I need to give someone their money back!

I did get what I wanted out of this though. I went up 15lbs without much body fat, and could have definitely gone up another 5+ if I had wanted to (but needing to make weight I’ve just been recomping around 240).

Back Ext x40

Front Squat
45,135x5
205,255x3
305,345,365,385,415x1 PR

SSB Boxsquat
242 2x3

342 2x3
372,392x3

Leg Extensions
140-200 4x13-20

Pretty fun day, 10lb PR on fronts was easily there so I took it. Felt very strong and fast on the box too! Reminded myself I already had a nice PR so once it started to slow down I shut it down at 392.

Some day on the front squats, I will load 315. Your legs must be strong as iron

Getting stronger legs helped, but you also have to develop the ab and upper back strength to stay upright under the load. My upper back is always torched from frontsquats, just like stone loading.

Just keep blasting those fronts outta the water!

I think 455 by end of year is a reasonable goal. Should give me time to lean up for the wedding in May then come back up to this bodyweight again eventually.

So last night I ran into Scott Smith, who lives here & was an elite single-ply powerlifter in the 198-275 class that was competing with guys like Ed Coan internationally back in the 80s and 90s. I have picked his brain a little before when seeing him at the gym and he’s a very cool guy (and super jacked at maybe 5’8” tops, arms still way over 20 solid inches). Guy has squat 925 single-ply, 860 in a belt and knee wraps, and 780 raw. Benched high 600s in an old single-ply shirt.

I found an interview googling him and his answer to a question about mindset really stuck out to me:

Widegrip Bench
45,85,125x15
155,165x25

Slingshot CGBP
225x6
265 2x6

Various trx rows, light sled pushes, sandbag carries, and loading plates for fiancé’s event runthru this morning.

Went in to help out and move some blood around. Did Swede’s 2x25 widegrip bench protocol (went about 3 fingers wider than comp) and pec is feeling healthy. Used the slanger to put some weight on the tris but keep ready for tomorrow’s runthru.

Just holding 400+ in front rack is strong as hell, let alone maintaining an upright position in the squat. Nice work bro

01/19/19 - Last Comp Practice @ 70-80%

Deadlift Medley
365 Stiffbar
405 18” Axle
425 Trapbar High Handle x5

Stone Carry Medley 65ft each
240 Keg
235 Husa
235 Husa

Carry Medley 70ft each
445 Yoke
200 Farmer’s Walk

Sled Drag w Rope 50ft (Tractor Pull)
~850

Press Medley (done at 90%)
210 Logpress
215 Axle
235 Barbell Pushpress out of rack (Viking Press)

Took as long as last week; medleys take so much work to load and prepare. Feeling fast and strong. Added 25g more Karbolyn intra (for 100g total) and used around 10 glucose tabs (40g total) - perfect addition, blood sugar now totally stable with high energy on demand. Game changer. I’m ready to compete.

Also, something totally different:

01/21/19

All exercises 4x12 each

Giant Set A:
Pulldowns
Facepulls
DB Hammer Curls

Giant Set B:
Cable Rows from low pin
DB Laterals
Tri Pressdown

Giant Set C:
Cable Rows from high pin
Cable Curls
CG Push-ups

Superset A:
Front Raises
Upright Rows

Woof. Lighter weights, heavy pump for some cardio and blood flow. Weight down to 237.8 today. Water is getting turned up and carbs are trace. Probably don’t need to do that really but I would rather be able to slow down the cut than have to sweat to make weight.

Hell yeah on the 415 front squat Hyde!

3rd day of high water lower electrolytes and super low carb. Feeling run down but dropping some glycogen. Weight down to 235.0 from 238.6 on Sunday.

Comp is in 3 days. Throat feeling on the verge of sinus sickness so slept in again for 2nd day in a row and will again tomorrow. Turning up the green tea and Vit c and zinc. Will get my mashing and cardio in as planned tonight after work to keep mobile, just staying limber.

Finished Superdiol and Methyl DHT Oxime yesterday so that should help me feel a tad better in a few days.

If you have it take 20g of l glutamine a day, glutamine is what the immune system feeds off of and will definitely be a good addition to your current strategy!

I’m convinced green tea is a wonder cure for any ills tbh.....hope your soon feeling back on top form brother

Aw man no I don’t stock it - could be good to keep around and try some time though, thank you.

That has been my finding, personally. Sure warm liquid can be nice on the throat, but it really seems to speed recovery - thanks!

I need to ween myself off of coffee a bit, might have to get back to green tea. I take Green Tea Extract but should look at replacing some of my coffee with green tea. Often it is the hot liquid I crave more than just the caffeine I just like how they make me feel.

I like that I can drink it before bed, all day any time with no regard to how much I’ve had. I like knowing it’s good for fighting cancer and pro-lipolysis, and generally seems to help my immune system.

I believe studies found that you need to drink 2 cups a day for a year to burn 4lbs of body fat. Considering many people add 5lbs a year as they age that is actually relevant if you enjoy it as part of your routine. I am also a big fan of the calming from the L-Theanine.

Weight this morning at 9am after a baby poop was 234.0 - 3lbs up. Weighins are at 11am tomorrow. Drank 16oz egg whites and had some almonds, plus the 8g of fat from the Androfactory Bulk Up caps all at once, and probably 10-12oz water w my vitamins, extra Vit C (cort control) & zinc, & 2tbsp milk of magnesia. Maybe a hot epsom salt bath tonight.

Leaving by 4am tomorrow and driving directly there - 23 hours til I get to drink.

You got this, no problem. Excited to hear about the meet.

Film, or it didn’t happen!

Should be hearing about the weigh in and first big carb meal soon!

Weighin went smooth, we got there at 10:30 and promoter was showing up same time - carried some boxes in and he let us weigh first early at 10:45.

Filled right back up, looking night and tight today and not spilled over but full. I’m sure I’m at least 238. Got 6 quality hours of sleep and 3 or so hours of tossing and turning.

Getting things prepared now - today’s the day, and I feel ready.

Go get em homie. Looking forward to seeing what you put out there on the "stage".

Spoiler Alert:

The show was basically over for me before it began. First event was deadlift. They way overloaded the car deadlift and all 9 guys in the 231 class pulled the 450 axle, 550 18” axle, and then zero’d the car deadlift. No split times on who finished the first 2 implements fastest so 9-way tie after event 1.

Show was poorly organized and there was like a 50 minute wait before next event, the yoke/frame medley, but we weren’t supposed to leave our group - you know, like to warmup for the 650lb yoke. I went to the bathroom off the initial warmup area (which was like an icebox) and the yoke we got our heights on was still there and loaded to around 500. I figured hey, might as well set my height real quick and at least get a warmup with 500 vs going right into 650 out on the field. This yoke is ultrawide, even for my large wingspan. As soon as I picked it up, contracting my lats and biceps to pull it in like usual, I heard a crack like someone ripping denim from my left elbow and immediately dropped it.

Looked down and my left bicep was partially torn down at the elbow. It wasn’t rolled up, but there was a big divot where it should be attached and pulled over to the inside of the arm, hanging kinda funny.

****.

A volunteer drove me to an emergency clinic where they basically gave me a sling and took X-rays, which apparently are useless for bicep tear evaluations it turns out. Appointment booked with an orthopedic elbow specialist first thing Monday morning to evaluate for surgery.

Fiancés Middleweight class got combined with the heavyweights since not enough of them showed up, and only top 2 got invites to Nationals. She podiumed at 3rd place overall in the combined group, only a single point behind 2nd place and 3 points from 1st, which was won by a woman who’s a USS Heavyweight Pro. She even took 1st in the yoke/frame and the truck pull events against all of them, but she didn’t get her Middleweight Nationals bid she hoped for.

So competition was a huge waste of money and time, and if I need surgery (very probable) my upper body will be out of commission for almost 6 months, and fiancé didn’t get the bid she should of had before they combined classes last minute.

Did have a good evening hanging with the promoter and got a lot of great info on bicep tears, repairs, and advice from all the guys who have come back from them.

PCT has to start Tuesday but I am starting Mk677 tonight, and just ordered 8-11 week cycle of TB500 leading into BPC157 to heal this faster, surgery or no.

Obstacles or opportunities. You must choose.

Dang bro, there’s a silver lining.. always! It’s upsetting when a event is put together poorly even more so when you’ve been a part of ones that have run smoothly and efficiently.

Man, take care and praying for the best on the x-ray and surgery (if needed)

Sh1t, dude...

What could I say that would help? Keep your head up! Its one more challenge on a rocky road.

Sh1t bro, gutted for you both. Literally only came into the thread to see how you went.

Hope that heals up quick, I know I’m mk can do a lot so hoping you are back sooner rather than later.

If it doesn’t kill you it only makes you stronger

Damn bud, that blows. It's wild that you tore your bicep on a yoke; I'm not sure I've ever heard of that before. Hoping you got some decent news at the ortho, at least.

Oh man, sorry to hear about that. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Thank you, everyone. Surgery scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Doc believes it to be a full distal tear and said it definitely is significantly detached from the forearm. Turns out my POS insurance plan doesn’t cover anything on MRI or surgery, and secondary covers very little. There’s no network applicability issues; this Blue Cross EPO plan is just that bad.

So I’m electing to have him go in without the MRI and I’m paying for everything on my own (surgeon, outpatient facility, anesthesia fees) at out of pocket rates besides what little my POS secondary plan provides. So looking at about $3-5,000 cash after the secondary insurance.

Plus $300 in peptides, whatever the emergency clinic fees and xrays from Saturday cost me, and any follow up appointments as well as probably a single physical therapy appointment to get a home protocol put together.

The promoter said he had only known one guy ever to do it - turns out it’s a guy we trained with some up in the Chicago area. I never even thought to ask him how he did it. He hit a 210lb circus db that day I met him so I’d say he was making a good comeback.

Dang it, Hyde.

I love the way you turn this obstacle into an opportunity.

I admire your indomitable spirit! The spirit of a champion!

Gosh damn man. Sorry to hear about all of this dude...so many different levels of fckd all the way from the show up being miserably run to the tear to the POS insurance debacle. Weve seen you come back from other things stronger than ever and I've got 0 doubt this will be another time. Looks like a whole ****load of SSB squatting coming your way soon, so no doubt you'll build some quality strength on that and get carry over to your other lifts.

01/29/19 - Day 1 of PCT

Bodyweight 234.4lbs

Daily:
20mg Nolva
35mg Clomid
25mg Proviron

10mg Ibutamoren/Mk677
5mg Ostarine/Mk2866
10g Collagen Peptides

Would like to get some squatting in tonight since food/water gets cut off tomorrow at midnight for surgery prep, but also working 12s both today & tomorrow to make up time for Friday off and it will be -30* windchill this evening so probably going to rest at home and work on not being sick for surgery. I’ll get back at it next week.

I know the ostarine has some research showing good for tendinous healing but isnt there some concern about persistent suppression? I absolutely you know what youre doing so im just interested in hearing your logic if you dont mind explaining so I can learn something?
