I usually eat my protein. I don't "take" it. Really I don't know how you would "Take" it.....Sometimes I drink it.
I haven't been focusing on taking protein pre workout. I usually focus on some good carbs and maybe some healthy fats for pre workout and then focus on 40g for post workout.
my thoughts were that protein is a bad source of energy, what is the point of a pre workout protein shake?
are u saying you don't have protein with your pre-workout meal at all?
not saying that...when I'm training hard I'm taking in close to 250g/day (spread throughout the day), so it's innevitable that I'm getting some protein close to when I workout...I just wasn't focusing on protein pre workout.

Ok just making sureyea i don't focus on it really there is protein in all my meals so its not really that big an issue(i take in about the same as you ~250grams a day)
Thanks Bolt: I was just making a point that, IMO, a pre workout protein shake is not really important...again, protein is a bad source of energy. but gotta make sure you get that post workout one in though!
Protein pre-workout isn't really for energy though (although it still can/will provide it.) Thats why you are taking in carbs.
I think hes just stating he doesn't take a protein shake immediately pre-wo, since the OP mentioned immediately pre and post. I do not take protein immediately pre and would opt for carbs and Aminos if i had to have something real close to starting my workout with protein meal aroun 1.5 hours out.
I like having a good flow of amino acids circulating during training, hence the protein powder prior to training. Have you ever done protein prior to working out?
Thats what I meant. I could use the word consume next time if that sounds good to you
