How much can you bench??:)

Thanks! I have some funky genetics though....
My grandfather is full blooded japanese, and my other grandfather was full blooded english.
My mom is half japanese, half german
my dad is half english, half welsh.
I guess being short is helpful.. but i have a hard time gaining weight due to my english blood.

The rest of my lifts.. i dont really pay attention im still in high school.. so we just compare bench press. But i think i can leg press in the 500 area.. whatever 6 plates a side is.

Hey...maybe you can help me figure out which part of my genetics is giving me the lack of triceps...lolololol...jk man...u just crack me up.

If I had some background info, I would gladly help diagnose which genes cause certain muscles to have an easier or harder time growing

:D There is no way you can determine that...lol.

You'd have to take my dna, my ancestors dna, clone us, make each of our clones lift and eat like professional BBers so we can reach our genetic potential, and then you may havea decnet idea of which portion of my ancestry may have contributed to my phenotypical traits which are importatn to bodybuilding.

You can't just "ass"ume by cultural, racial, etc background that one portion of your heritage is responsible for a certain aspect of your development. Maybe in "general" certain types of people will exhibit certain traits, but that doesn't mean the people responsible for your genetics, who may exist in certain groups, exhibit those 'typical traits'.

for example, if marsian race A is normally muscular and lean and marsian race B is normally fat and out lacks muscles that does not mean that ever person in A and B will be beholden to their racial norm. there could be total opposites of the norm in each of those two populations (and in all probability there WOULD BE).

True, true.

It's like that whole thing about "I have bad genetics". You hear it all the time now. It's so easy to blame the genes huh? Well there's just no WAY to know if you have good or bad genes. Your dad was a weakling and your mom too? Well there are people who are small and weak whose parents are big and strong, and the reverse also happens.

Point is, I get a little nauseous from all that "genetics and bodybuilding" talk because it's all about abusing scientific terms in absolutely unscientific ways...

OTOH, I recently met this brazilian guy, about 5'6", 110lbs, 16" wide shoulders, and when we shook hands, I realized his hands were nearly twice the size of mine.

I hate genetics!!!!!

:frustrate

But of course, I am still assuming I have yet to reach my "potential" ... i'm still 17 so I have plenty of time i'm sure.

Jeez. I can't wait to see how big I'll get!

I think most people with 'bad genetics' find that they actually have pretty good genetics for building muscle once they learn how to eat:D

Personally, Id like to go back in time and find out which Italian son of a ***** cursed me with these goddamn weak ass shoulders and pathetic calves. Id pump him full of myostatin antibody and IGF-1 until his DNA mutated, and then Id post videos in the pics section of me military pressing 400lbs for reps:)

Grawr.. its because im five years younger eh?

215 x 6 @ 155...I have never worked too much in lower rep sets, so I wouldn't know what my 1RM is..Now that my shoulder is a piece of dog feces I am content never to find out...Now I am 20lbs heavier and can only use 85lb DB's...

Yeah, there has never been ANY English bodybuilder or powerlifter in history.
Quite *****ing about your genetics and bust your ass for years.

I was only kidding about genetics. I do bust my ass in the gym... what makes you think I dont? Just because I whine? I'm 17 i'm allowed to whine.

Gosh, take it easy man, your hurting my feelings :(

I work hard for my gains.

Thats good you work hard. Now lets go :burger:

LMFAO...320x1 flt bench 320x1 squat 320x1 deadlift..never snatched or power clean. I need to get some straps lol for my deads to go higher... btw 5'9 195.

I think you are the first person I have met who had identical lifts for all three of the big ones..That is kinda weird, you'd think with a pretty decent 1RM bench your deads would be higher..Is your chest development that much better than your back?

Yeah, did it during PCT of my first and only (well...sort of) AAS cycle. I'm positive I could have done more at my peak, actually. I did 225 x 30 because I hurt my shoulder and didn't wanna go heavy :D My cousin actually did 225 x 42 when he was maxing 405 (about same strength as me). It was just rythym, too...

In allhonesty, it was just a good rythym that allowed for that many reps. I was getting 315 x 10 at the time, so IMO those numbers are unproportional...all rythym.

My max fl. bench = 505, max in. bench = 460, max dead = 550, max squat = 505 (a$$ to heels though). I've done 225 for 37 when I was my strongest. I weigh between 220 and 230 when I did these, AND YES I AM ALL NATURAL...NO ADDITIVES, PERSERVATIVES, OR "JUICES" !!!

all these lifts were for 1 rep.

Did 140's x 8 on incline dumbell press yesterday. Incline press is unproportionally strong in comparison to flat bench.

No...no powerlifting. (Keep in mind I no nothing about powerlifting) I didn't like the idea of wearing those "bench shirts" and "squat suits." I do know you can compete without them, but it was my understanding that most people do and that they add pounds to your lifts. When I lift I like for it to be "me" you know??? Anyway, I actually just got into bodybuilding about 2 years ago and I am anticipating on doing my first show this coming August. I have been lifting seriously for about 6 years though.

As far as pics go, don't have any as of yet but they are coming...want me to post??? If so, how do I do that?

I am 5'7.5" or 5'8" (short I know) and right now I weigh 229 and my bf is somewhere between 12 & 15% (I don't know and the people @ the gym I train @, aren't very accurate in measuring...go figure.)

Well in hs all I did was chest it got huge..once I started working on other parts my chest shrunk but now total body is catching up. My deads arnt up there yet cuz I am using a smith machine doing them its not that its to much but once I go higher my grip can't hold it. And with squats I jus started. I use to rarely do them really low around 180 for reps. I was dared to go higher and did and wow now I plan to keep going up. It looks low now cuz I'm cutting. I plan to go to a better gym in a few weeks on bulk and up all lifts. How's your maxes going? Sorry long story.

Bench shirts??? They add pounds what??? How can I get one.

Yeah "bench shirts" - they are like these skin tight shirts that you have to have help to put on and take off but some people say that they add 20 - 40 lbs to your 1 rep max.

I have no idea where you could get one but I'm sure if you know anybody that powerlifts they could tell you...personally, I just think...well I don't know what to think...never used one.

If you try it, let me know how it goes.

I did some research on those shirts a while ago, maybe a year, when I was training for shotput...

These shirts are expensive, and a pain in the ass to get on...
Its not like a wonder drug, it wont just make you stronger (it doesnt magically add 20-40lbs to your 1RM) you actually have to get the right shirt, and then use the right form...

apparently you have to use a certain form in order for these 'shirts' to have maximum effect...

It just helps lift heavier, keep in mind your muscles arent working harder... the shirt is some funky material that's supposedly something like a spring, you have the weight push it down, and it will push back, you just have to help it...

typical bodybuilders dont use these, as they are probably a good waste of seventy bucks, plus they are only good for lifting competitions, not building your body.

Hope that helps.. oh and just google it haha.. bench shirts.

They put on way more then 20-40 pounds on your bench. Guys that bench 700 in a shirt can usually max 500-550, sometimes even less. Many powerlifters by perfecting the shirts and using arch are doing 600, when their RAW bench is only 350-400. The squat suits give even more help. I wore an equally sized friends squat suit, at the time I was squatting 450 to paralell. In just one workout I was able to squat 550, and I popped out of the bottom like a spring. It seems it would be better to allow no equipment, but it is what it is, and everyone has access to the suits.

Yes, but point being, they are used for lifting competitions.. if they they only add to your muscles, your muscles arent working any harder than usual, which is why they arent used alot more often for bodybuilders....

Thats what i was led to believe anyway.. feel free to add, subtract, or totally destroy that statement though.

No, you're right. I can't see them having much benefit to bodybuilding. I guess you could rationalize that if tri's were a weak bodypart the shirt would help to force you use tri's, but thats a stretch as there are so many ways to overload the triceps.

Dude, you're within spitting distance of twice your bodyweight, that's pretty damn good.
