Herder's 2014 Log: All About the XPC Semi's

Thanks all!

Nevermind on the 500. My phone is being a d1ck.

Hung out at the Titan booth with some HOUSES today. Turns out they used to train with the guys I do ME with on Saturdays. One of the guys there was Allen Baria. Feel free to youtube him since mine is dumb. He has a video of 405x25 and 500x10, and a 633 raw and an 855 single ply bench. He looked more like a bencher than anyone I've ever seen. Massive, massive dude.

Got a picture with Chuck Vogelpohl and watched Yarymbash squat 1145 like an empty bar.

You're a house. Sick squats. You had way more in you, it looked so easy.

Andy Bolton was at the finals. He pulled 925. I was in the front row for it. Hell fcking yeah. BSed with Casey Williams for maybe ten minutes. Good dude from my neck of the woods, totaled 2011 at RUM. Also talked to Mark Rippetoe for a minute. He was funny, far more interested in the women, no respect for equipped powerlifting or the judging of equipped powerlifting.

awesome, i always thought rip would be a good dude to have a couple beers with. i've read practically everything he's written.

925? how old is bolton now?

He's gettin up there! He's 44 and on the comeback trail. Rip was definitely the kind of guy to have some beers with. We were critiquing and providing opinions on the scenery.

Myself and Chuck Vogelpohl:

Hahaha. He looks like he's carved out of stone, man. He's one of the most frightening looking guys I've seen. And he was super nice.

Yeah he definitely looks big an you are a big guy. Hahaha. I would look tiny by you two. That's awesome though.

Rep bench today, but it's Wave 3 of Cube Boss, so there are basically two heavy days a week this wave. 85% x3x5. Comp, two singles of pin presses, and heavy ass Lilly pausers.

Suck day. No power, no endurance, no tightness in the bottom of my benches, terrible pauses. I have a dry cough and I'm losing my voice. I thought it was from yelling at the wrestling tourney, but perhaps not. Anywho...

Bench
315x3,4

CGBP (thumb from smooth)
325x1,2

Lilly Pause
295x2x3

DB Incline
70x20,17,7,4

Flyes
3x8

JM Press
225x5 prolly best set I've ever done with 225 as far as feel and form, still not good enough
135x2x12

Destroyer

Delt Raises
3x8

Chest Supported Row
60x12,10,8

Facepulls
5x10

External Rotations (same setup as facepulls)
30x3x10

And done. Feeling pretty rough. Wanted to condition, but this took too long.

I'd still be happy with your crappy bench day.

This is supposed to be the link to my 500 squat from Friday. Does it work?

What I was thinking.

I felt the same way Saturday Herder. On another note; it seems like me and you are similar in regards to CG and regular bench, there's not a huge deviation between the two. Maybe it's common, but I thought the additional ROM would reduce poundage more.

500 vid works, depth looks questionable but hard to tell with your huge legs and the shadowing.

I know what you mean. I moved my CGBP out a thumb length this training cycle. Really, that's the grip I trained with last cycle until my bicep tendon started crapping out on me. Before, I had the extreme hands butted up against the slicks CGBP. That was just a little too much. I dunno, man.

I strained my pec going ring on the ring a couple weeks back and I'm not seeing a lot of carryover from five weeks of training with it. I also have no strength with pinkie on the ring or pinkie just inside the ring. I have to be either two fingers inside the ring or ring on the ring to have my top form. I'm really hoping it's just this weird dry cough that had me down today. Last cycle I hit 315x3x5 on this corresponding day.

Definitely going to switch back to the exact training I did last cycle. I need to hit the gain train if I want to qualify. I am pumped to see how my squat and deadlift programming and form tweaks pan out. I just think this cycle has been just okay and really hectic and interrupted, so hopefully I get some small PRs or didn't take big steps back.

At least I haven't hurt myself! *knocks on wood*

Agree. My buddy may have called me quick. Which is pretty shïtty of him, since he squats with great depth lol.

Here's tonight's benching. Nothing wrong with it, just not up to par:

325 CGBP is pretty awesome brother. And yeah I don't mess around with doing CGs at the smooth. Too much wrist pain for me. I also don't really see a reason to, it hits my tris just as hard a thumbs length away.

Edit** love the music playing btw.

Shoulders feeling it today. Bigtime. And not in a good way. Not injured, just sore and angry at me.

I didn't invent this or anything, but incase people here don't know, you can fill up a bunch of styrofoam with water, freeze them, and they peel back layers to use straight ice without numbing the hand that is doing the motions to ice an area.

I <3 ice(no necro)

I don't follow. Could you explain this in a different way? Sounds potentially cool

Hm I've heard of freezing a styrofoam cup and then peeling off the top as it melts so you can hold the cup and not freeze your hand. Similar? Maybe Nomz mentioned that.

Ah, I understand now. Good idea

I have a Popsicle mold that I freeze water in and can hold the stick while doing ice massage.

I like ice in my Yukon Jack...

Gonna try something here, gonna do a heavy speed day. I'm due for speed at 75%, but I might play with some work at wanna get back into wrapped squatting and go for a mock 545 here at the end of March (probably going to pull only in the meet). I really don't think the time spent without wraps had any great benefit other than keeping massive weights off of my back for an extended period of time. Which got old fast.

Okay, so today was interesting. Definitely a tough day. I'll upload soon.

Speed Squat (loose 3m wrap)

425x2,2,3,3

So basically, I squatted 80% for speed doubles, and then the second two sets I hit for speed triples since I wasn't losing speed on the doubles. I have video of one of them, it was good. Stuff felt heavy walking out today, but it moved great.

Oly Squat
275x2x8

GM (High Bar, Narrow Stance, real deep)
225x5x5

20min Jump Rope (damn)

And that was it for the day. Lots of 3m wrapping going on (three people, one pair of wraps), lots of working up. Hitting some good volume at 80% with an explosiveness focus wore me down.

So yeah, I exploded down on my first one, but it ended up alright.

Nice Herd. I like how you keep your hips in. If I get them too far back, all goes to hell.

You do like to sit wayyy back, bud. I just torque hard at the top and hamstring curl myself down to the hole while torquing. It puts me in the right spot every time.

E z p z

Getting huge man!

Thanks, buddy! Weight 238 pre-gym. Best part: My 218lb brother needed the same setting on my lever belt. That doesn't mean I'm not girthy, he's girthy, too. Though his body fat is FAR lower than mine.

Nice, so you just screw your feet in to create the torque? I have reps where I'm like got damn that felt perfect, then others I can't quite find it. I'll be more cognitive of that.

Right. I screw my feet in as hard as I can and maintain it the whole way down. Using my hips and glutes to rotate my knees out, which screws the feet in. I use that qualifier because I found out today that my brother can screw his feet in without using his hips. It's like this:

Biggest key: Torque hard, and keep it.

Frickin traps are already sore. I can't wait to train in the shed so I can knock shyt out, get shyt done, and get more badass. If NomZ is soft like child, then I'm soft like boob. Heading down to SC for two weeks on Tuesday, may be time to look Super D up.

Good stuff. So, knees out essentially. I think that would be beneficial to both my squat and deadlift. Thanks for the link.
