Hemoglobin Too High to Donate Blood?

If you are seeing ranges in the 95-96% range alone, that is not anything related to sleep apnea, those are normal levels. More importantly, you need to find out how often it might drop below 95% because that is what helps determine. In general it's 5-10 times per hour to be considered mild sleep apnea.

I've never seen it below 95% and it's constantly checking all day and night. I'll suggest a sleep study and see what the Dr thinks tomorrow.

I go for more tests tomorrow. My watch has never detected snoring, but my pulse ox does sometimes get down to 95-96% at night, so possible there is slight apnea? I don't think that's enough to cause this though.

The part that makes me fairly suspicious is my EPO being dead center of the normal range. The mechanism of high hemoglobin/hematocrit with anabolic use is high EPO. I pin daily and since my last donation I only ran one very mild cycle of 350 TE and 560 Mast E for 12 weeks, ending in March. Nothing oral, no ancillaries, just that. If that's enough to spike my hemoglobin that high my career is over! 😄
350 test and 500 mast is not that mild actually, maybe in terms of results but not in terms of total milligram, it's almost a gram.

Like I previously said, mere 250 test would raise my hct above 53. 500 test had it at 54 after 6 weeks.

I suppose you are caucasian? Our kind seems to have more trouble regarding high hct. I watched a few vids regarding this, anabolicDoc mentions it.

Then again how many men on trt have issues...as far as I was reading, plenty, more often than not it is an issue.

It only seems to get worse with age too.

Idk... constantly phlebotomizing isn't an answer as it depletes iron stores, been there and done it, hct over 50 and feeling like death, zero endurance, feeling like passing out at work etc, and hct is *still over 50*.

The only solution that seems effective is to have prolonged periods at natural range levels.
Other than that, I wasn't able to find out about supplements that would inhibit rbc production. One thing I am doing is calcium with every meal. If I have a steak I will drink a glass of milk. Calcium inhibits iron absorption.

Also, at the end of the day, it also comes down to what hct level are you comfortable with and have no symptoms.
I myself am fine at around 50, 53 and up I start to wake up with numb arm/leg.

I'm mid-40's. 3/4 German and 1/4 Polish. I'm white bread. The sun scares me! 😄

That is all great info, thanks!

I bought a HemoCue 201+ and I'll test myself monthly when cruising. Maybe weekly on a blast? I definitely felt like death, I just didn't realize how bad it was because it kind of crept up slowly over those eight ish months. Lesson learned for sure! Hopefully all the tests tomorrow look good and there isn't a real issue!

Good Luck With Your Test !! Hope All Go's Well !!

2% (kind of odd, but Dr says it's normal)

Urine was completely normal. Dr says we ruled out all possible causes beyond the PED use. I'll be keeping a very close eye on my hemoglobin and donating as much as possible!

Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions and support!

Your platelets are well within range, which is obviously good, as they will be one of the main contributors to clotting.

I would kill for Platelets like yours !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they probably took platelets when I did the Double Red donation? I've also had at least a dozen tubes taken since then and it still only got my hemoglobin halfway to where we want it. Crazy how varied our bodies are and how well they can cope with these imbalances!
