sorry to hear about this. what caused it? do you work with hazardous waste?
No. I'll make short posts in answer to your questions, and then, if I can find the strength to do so, I'll combine everything into a well-edited "my story" with all the good bits in there that are relevant for bodybuilders. There are many.
My grandfather used to work making boots for the army back in WW2 and Korea, maybe vietnam, but that's when he got sick. His weight ballooned out of nowhere and he was unable to do anything, pretty suddenly. He also developed type 2 diabetes at the same time. We assumed there was a genetic predisposition in our ancestry. He sired only daughters though, and none of them seemed to possess this unfortunate DNA trait.
However, his daughters had almost only males, and we were all told to be careful that we don't encounter the same fate as grandpa. Well... We did. Myself and a number of my cousins all underwent the same fate, even with the warnings and our dedication to being as healthy and fit as possible. We were a family of athletes specifically because of this. Some info on genetic particulars of heavy metal metabolism and elimination:

So it seems this genetic trait from granpa was in fact poor ability to eliminate mercury. One particular aspect of mercury toxicity is that it directly hampers elimination of toxic elements, so it's a toxicity that feeds on itself.
One time, back when I was a portfolio manager, making good money with my neurons... I'm in the gym, and in the middle of my set, grinding my teeth, something broke off and I swallowed it. Turns out it was an amalgam filling. In the acid of my stomach. I knew this was bad. So I went to the dentist and to ensure it wouldn't happen again, I asked that they remove all my amalgams and replace everything with white composites. I did not know, and the dentist did not tell me that this would poison me gravely. 8 amalgams were removed and I got poisoned. It broke me inside, to the point where I had lost my gift for raking in the millions in the financial markets.
That's when I turned to bodybuilding in a more serious way. I started advising and coaching athletes. I even went to Australia in 2007 on a client's dime to train him on site. For the 3 weeks I did as Australians do, living on the ocean, that is: ate a lot of fish. A lot of sushi made with mercury-tainted Tuna. When I came back is when stuff started really breaking down for me.
