Heat or Cold Compress on a pulled muscle?

So I got cocky and attempted way too much weight doing barbell row this morning. My lower back buckled a little and was instantly tight, and the pain just keeps radiating worse and worse as the day goes on. Does anyone recommend hot over cold? Or a combo of both? Help me, I hurt lol.

Use ice for the first few days. Do not heat it as that's just causes more blood flow to the area which isn't what you need right now.
