I don't believe that a pessimist would ever become a farmer. A farmer must inherently have optimism that his work will result in a harvest, else why bother.

PS: I admire the heck out of farmers. Truth.

My son is bulking- and I am cutting, turns out that this is a bad situation to be in.

Cooked for my son a huge bowl of whole wheat pasta with lots of meat. When I say "huge" I really mean it.
Plan was to freeze part of it for the week. It was like 8 adult meals.

The result: My son ate about 10% of it and his dad stuffed the whole bucket in his stomach in a 3 hour binging feast.

Enough!

Self punishment phase:

Today and tomorrow only liquids, including protein shakes and soluble fibers, after that clean diet counting cals and watching macros.
I can't believe I'm that weak, it has to change!
 
Lol, is there any reason you actually want to diet? I find the most important thing is to have a strong reason why.

Bulls-eye!

One part of me wants to grow -the other-"reasonable-part" says: "lose weight, it's better for the joints, you are too heavy and too fat!"

It's a mental struggle -but now, after that obsessive binge I feel ready to do what reason dictates, this time for real.

Well, you've built up quite a bit of muscle. You really do look like a powerlifter and that is a good way to look....but like you said earlier, it's also a fat bodybuilder. What would people think if they could ACTUALLY see all the muscle you have? Is that even something you care about? Do YOU want to see it?

I mean, everyone wants different things. I had a period where I was OK being 300 pounds and a complete blubber. I was fine with it. No desire at all to lose weight. Then, I realized that carrying around all that weight was going to have some long term effects on me that would make life very unpleasant eventually, and then I realized that I already couldn't do things because of it....so my initial motivation was only to be able to move and be healthy, so I started lifting. But at some point I realized that no one would even THINK I worked out and I said I had enough and I was going to show everyone what I can do....so I started. And now, after all that, I want to see my abs, so I have this desire. But if you don't have the desire, maybe there is something else you want and you should be chasing that?
 
HGP, one day of liquid "cleanse" should be enough to recover from your binge.

I'm a strong believer that beating yourself up after slips is counter productive. It sends all the wrong signals to the parts of your brain that deal with motivation and reward.

Clean up for a day and get back on track -- the key though is to figure out a plan that works and a plan for sticking with the plan.

You're right -- it's going to continue to be very hard if you're cooking bulk food for your son but have to be in deficit yourself. Diet is not something you can wing for very long.

How long is your son's bulking cycle going to be? If it's only for a few more weeks, you might consider just bulking up with him and only start cutting when you no longer have all the bulking food around.

A few weeks won't kill you -- you can build some MORE nice muscle. And, you can have some great bonding time with your son, rather than constantly lamenting that he's bulking while you're cutting.

Yes, my goal is to see some of my abs, not getting below 15% bf as I know that it would mean to radically change my lifestyle, not gonna happen.

You are speaking my mind, I'm asking me:" What do you really want?" -every time when the thought crosses my mind: "You have to eat -or the walk to gym was for nothing."

Answer:
Smaller waist, leaner appearance, NO swimwear model look like sparks2012 (Too much work and discipline for me, kudos to Sparks2012)

Only way to achieve it:
-diet in check
-training in check (more cardio)
-mental focus
-discipline

What works for me when I want to see my abs, Say no to 2nds. & no sweets! (still going to have the occasional slip up) cant punish yourself for this. I try to keep it simple and make good food choices not starve my self. I'm to F*cking old and have been married too long to be the chiseled god. (Find what makes you happy and relies it takes some time.) the process is the fun part. (look at it as a hobby)

The hard part is out of the way. You are hooked on Iron and you have a great muscle base that most are trying to accomplish when they start lifting.
And dam it, it gets harder the older we get!

Relies you look better than the majority of people 1/2 your age brother.

Well, we all have lies we tell ourselves - this is the constant, constant thing that comes up in the dieting side. However, I think the "eat to get big" idea is a lie too. I'm not saying there is NO truth to it. But let's be real here. How much muscle do you really think you can put on this year? 10 pounds? 5 pounds? Let's stick to 10 pounds.

10 pounds X 1,800 calories (approx. calories in a pound of muscle) = 18,000 calories.

18,000 calories/12 = 1500 calories/month = 50 calories per day extra to build 10 pounds of muscle per year.

Plus, if you need fat for energy, your body will burn it from storage, so if you ate 250 calories below TDEE and needed 300 calories for energy to meet your requirements and respond to a stimulus ....if you have it from fat, you will take it from there.

You don't have to eat 5,000 calories/day to get big.

That is a sweet - poisonous idea, damn.
I'm already around 100kg. A short bulk would get me to about 110kg (up to 240lbs). That is huge for my 5"8 height and my knees would hate me.
On the other hand, it's only for 5 weeks until we evaluate the progress of my son -and I go to vacation.
HIT4ME, what do you think? I'm open to that idea.
All I have to do is hit the gym a bit harder and change my AAS around (drop Anavar and Osta, sustitute with Dbol)

Kaprice is somewhat right about the beating yourself up. What's done is done, and I've had plenty of cheat meals (had one last night even) when I shouldn't. What allows me to keep going is that I just do it, it's over, and I get back at it. As long as they stay cheat meals, and don't become the norm, and your diet is good enough the rest of the time to allow for set backs, you will be fine.

As for the bulking - I think you need to do what you really want to do and will give yourself to 100%. A half a$$ed bulk or a half a$$ed diet will get you some results, but not full results. If I am to apply my thoughts to myself, again, I think we lie to ourselves. You and I are both 5'8''. You certainly carry much more muscle than I do, but do you think you carry 40 pounds more muscle than me? I mean, that's A LOT of muscle and I can bench maybe around 225-250 for 1 rep (which isn't a lot), deadlift over 400, squat over 300. I would think if I was to add even 20 pounds of muscle to my frame I would be deadlifting well over 500 pounds, squatting near 500 pounds, and benching 300+.

To put it in perspective, in the 1940's and 50's John Grimmek was 5'8'' and weighed 180 pounds and was around 10% bodyfat. This made him the BEST bodybuilder in the world at that time. Why is this interesting? Because steroids were not discovered until the mid 40's and he may have been one of the last bodybuilders that we KNOW didn't have a ton of access to steroids. This pretty much tells us what the limit of our genetic potential is at 5'8'' without assistance of drugs. I know you are using some juice, but are you being real with yourself? Do you really think you should weigh over 200 pounds and be over 15% bodyfat?

Look at all you have done in this log. How far you have come. How much muscle you have built and fat lost. Do you want to kick it into high gear?

I know you're big at 220, and you're strong at that. I mean, pull ups AND an additional 45 at that weight? Totally awesome. But if you were walking around at 190-200 with that muscle, people would be staring at you.

I mean, Shawn Ray used to compete around 210 and he was a freak at our height.

You are right, will tough it out and lose BF first. It's the only reasonable approach.
Comparing max weight lifts does not say much about a muscular look -and you know it. :) (Gymnasts, Boxers )
As the "moderate weight - volume - rest pause guy" I can't compete with power lifters, neither can they compete with my resistance in some exercises.
All boils down to : Get leaner and look bigger! You are totally right on that!

Screw that. 5 weeks? Spend some quality bulking time with your son. Nothing bad is going to happen to your body in 5 weeks. Don't fight it. Enjoy it. After that, commit work your butt off and stick to your diet.
 
Don't forget you're on MK and I believe test(too far to look) you will have to be disciplined to combat that hunger. IMO best move is to either lower or take out MK to lower your hunger. You can definitely do this but anything that may get in your way needs to be dealt with.

Dropped the MK yesterday, as it bloats me (even with Aspirin as suggested by others) and the hunger feeling is too much to handle for a cut.
Will keep:
-25mg Osta/day
-50mg Anavar/day
-500mg Test/week
-50mg Trest pre-workout

Bent over DB rear delt raises: 2x65lbs 17/ RP 12/ RP 9
Leg extension torture: 110lbs holding 3 sec. on top: 18 /RP 14/ RP 10/ RP 7
12 minutes Bicycle at 145-155 HR (sprint-normal-sprint LV.10-15)

No food today, only protein shakes and psyllium husk shake.

No, no more commitments, I just do in silence because I blew it once.
Have still trouble to wrap my head around it what I want to achieve in the long run.
So far I'm imagining 220lbs at 15% BF would make me happy.

Everyone is different, but I will chime in with my two cents. I wavered back and forth for years without really getting any results. Without a commitment and accountability, it's just so darn easy to cheat and/or ultimately quit. I know you failed once, and that's totally fine. We all fail. Failure is an important part of life. It's often an opportunity to grow! But I'd suggest making a true commitment, stating it publicly (whether here or somewhere else), and having a group of people who know your commitment and are willing to remind you of that commitment, especially when the going gets tough.

For me, I bought Power90 and said "this workout sounds cheesy, but I'm going to give it 90 days following the workouts and diet as written". I figured if I failed, I could prove that a DVD workout was junk. And if I succeeded, then I got the benefits of being healthier. Win/win!

I guess what I'm saying is... What have you got to lose by committing to something for these next 5 weeks? You might be glad you did when you hit the beach here in FL...
 
My belief -- and I think it's more than just semantics...

There is no failure. There are only results.

How we choose to respond to those results will determine our happiness.

I believe the key to success is to try something. Observe the result. If the result isn't what you wanted, make adjustments and try again.

Repeat until you get the desired result.

You can adjust any combination of your actions, your mindset, the goal, the rules of the game, or the environment in which the game is played.

You came a long way, awesome that someone really did it using a DVD program. Most people buy it -only to put it in a box in the garage.
My guess is, you got me wrong. I'm already committed to the cause "looking good naked".
If I compete and blow it again, how would that look? Going my own pace gives me a more secure feeling -not having the competition breathing down my neck, LOL.

Thanks. And fair enough. We all gotta do what's right for us. I for one wouldn't think twice if you committed to something and failed again. Like I said, we all fail. It's because we're stupid humans. For me... and maybe this is the difference.,. I need the accountability to really get the results. Otherwise, I can very easily convince myself that those potato chips or cookie are no big deal really. Then one turns into a box. And then boom, I backslide. Then I feel bad about myself, and eat more bad crap because "who cares? I already failed anyway" and then it gets worse from there :).

You're right, we're all different and different techniques work for different people.

I used to be one of those guys who'd eat just one cookie and then say, "Dang! I totally screwed up my diet. I may as well eat several more cookies, a whole bag of chips, and some ice creme!"

I've since changed my mindset that eating one cookie doesn't derail anything. It's just part of the process. Therefore no guilt and no temptation to binge simply because I've already screwed it up.

LOL, we all know that:" It's only a handful cookies, I could need some carbs to replenish my muscles." BAM - fat again!

I'm going the "shock and awe approach" now.
4 weeks+ left, lets see what I can do -no promises though.
Today is my second day on only liquids.
3-4 wey/casein shakes - and one psyllium husk shake per day.
That's it. Will do that as long as I can, supplementing with vitamins and a fist full of AAS.
I figured it's easier not to chew anything than restricted eating <--- that's what I think now, lets wait a few days, lol
 
Ahh, the things we learn in the liquid protein diet. You will learn a lot about your eating habits.

I think part of your problem with this, though, is that you haven't worked out a plan that helps you be as satisfied as possible on very very few calories.

When I started this I would have 6 egg whites, 2 oz. Chicken and a half bag if broccoli in the morning. Then early afternoon was 3 oz. Chicken and half bag broccoli. Then dinner was another half bag broccoli and about 5 oz. Of chicken ...i was eating very little but at least often enough to be full, and being on a set plan helped me too....I should go back to this, haha.
 
Oh, also, chicken broth from a cube is low calorie and can help fill you up...sometimes I would just have some chicken and broccoli soup that way.

Black coffee is always a solid choice too. Really helps me make it through the whole morning on my fast. Nice burst of caffeine, and tasty too!
