Hair Loss Prevention

Thanks a lot for your replies. My main concern is my receding hairline, everything else is fine, I will have to do some reading on the other products available that you guys mentioned. I would like to regrow some of what I've lost over the time, it's frustrating to see pictures from 10 years ago with a nice perfect hairline, but it's still not that bad, too bad I didn't start worrying about it couple of years ago. Thanks for your help again.

You might want to give AA + the laser comb a try for the hair line...Id recommend Minox as well but as you've read its a permanent solution.

smeton mind reposting that link? It links back to this thread:)

That's one place, although I think it may be a little pricey. There's a link I posted in this thread somewhere for a place that sold it dirt cheap, but I dont have the time to comb through it at the moment...

BV-

Still feeling like you are getting good results with the comb??

Definitely. Ive stopped using Dr.Lee's 15% minox (switched to WWHP's stuff to save cash for a few months) but my hair is still much thicker than before, and continues to improve slowly.

When Im in the shower in the morning, I can yank on my hair by the fist full, rub the crap out of my scalp, etc and Ill lose 3-4 hairs at the most.

I cant read this whole thread but I in November cut my hair as short as GI janes( demi moore)...I was loosing clumps of hair due to my thyroid issues, which than became stress from loosing the hair to finally me becoming pissed off and buzzing it....Right now its like a short, short cut, with some baby fine hair...which means it can grow...YEAH!!!!

what has helped me, aside from spending a **** load on prescriptions, and shampoos ...a complicated processs I call a pain in the ass,....

Loprox shampoo, 3 times a week,
Nizoral cream, every other night, sun, tues, thurs, wash off in the Am
A compund of mineral oil, and salsilicacid(spelling) shampoo 4%, ( mixed by the pharmacy tech). Put on the other nights, mon,wed,fri... wash off in the Am...

And finally my own thought of doo grow, from the sally's beauty store..figured it cant hurt right?

And a GREAT collection of caps from lids in the mall...

Glad to hear you're regrowing your hair ToughChick401! Have you been able to resolve the thyroid issues?

From what I've read ,when you lose hair in clumps like that its usually due to a hormonal imbalance, and its only resolved be correcting the problem.

Female Pattern Baldness is often due to a sensitivity to DHT (similar to MPB), and thus the treatments for that usually help. I think women can also take oral androgen blockers like Spiro, but if you're into weightlifting your probably dont want to be messing with your test levels!!:) FBP usually shows the same symptoms as it does in men. ie: a general thinning on the front and vertex of the head, receeding hairline, etc.

You might want to give the laser brush a shot...it seems to stimulate hair growth by super-energizing the follicle cells and forcing them to go into the anagen phase, it might work real well for your situation. It can't hurt, anyway!

BV

thyroid issue is not resolved as of yet, I am told to do this shampoo, cream, compound crap routine, topical for now and when I go for the boipsy on the thyroid/lyphnode(spelling) I may get the answer of thryoid cancer, hodgkins which my lupus dr is thinking due to the other symptoms I have...........

So for me to do anything more than this as listed in my other post, is foolish as i have to heal the inside of me to heal my hair...course now I am stressed due to the whole hair thing, boipsy, so now its some stress i am sure, but that I cant help.....I remember when I donated my hair for locks for love ( kids with cancer) they cut off 12 inches.,...I MISS MY HAIR:(

you might want to try the salsilicacid(spelling) wash, it feels good,(your head after its done)....and its non advasive...

Usually Female hairloss has it's own pattern. Thinning in certian areas and overall thinning.

I intend on using the laser comb in conjunction with some oratropin down the road. If that doesn't regrown and help me keep hair; I'll try to accept bald is beautiful. My head is always itchy, not like a danfroffy way purely. What do you think I could use to sooth my itchy scalp?

Itchy but no dandruff? You might want to try an OTC dandruff shampoo, as they're supposed to help with scalp itchiness too. Nizoral (ketoconazole), is actually an anti-dandruff shampoo that is supposed to have positive effects on hair restoration, so maybe give that a shot too.

Some studies show that hair loss may be due to the way DHT interacts with the hair follicles, causing them to actually be attacked by the immune system. This can result in inflammation and could explain why your head itches, and you're seeing hair loss too. Maybe try inhibiting DHT for a couple months via finasteride and try to see that helps too. Just an idea...

I heard that telostatin at night, along with nizoral/eod, and ketoconazole powder(or a premix)can do wonders for hair loss.

When I use minox 5% (any brand) I get a dry flakey scalp that itches like crazy. But when I use Dr. Lee's Xondrox with BV it makes my scalp silky smooth. It's more expensive, but what is price if you never get to use the cheap stuff and it sits on your shelf?

I believe one of the major theories behind MPB is that the immune system is mistaking DHT for lice or some similar critter. It attacks the follicle thinking it is eliminating the foreign body, and ends up eliminating your precious locks :(

When not using Nizoral, Head&Shoulders is a good idea. It contains pyrithione zinc, which is supposed to have anti-inflammatory effects on the scalp.

I found that the cheap stuff caused the same problem initially, but it goes away after a few weeks. W/Custom's AA, I was actually thinking that it may have been residue from the AA, which appeared to be dandruff.

Their anti-dandruff shampoo also contains pyrithione zinc. I use these products quite a bit, and they do work pretty well.

I totally agree that Dr.Lee's Xandrox products are the absolute best in terms of quality. I dont have any scalp issues with any of the products I use (WWHP or Dr.Lee) - but if I can afford the extra $$ I'll always go with the Xandrox line.

Ahh. Ok I know this is a stupid question, but have you gone to a doctor?

LOL, yes it is..pick your dr of choice, last week it was the derm for my hair/skin issues, this week is the endrocin dr for the thyroid....and next week its the lupus dr, for that issue. I am told until the 25th and after when I have my biopsy on my thyroid/lymphnodes, its the wait and see game...so my derm is treating it now with topicals as best as he can, but its internal, blood work, and ultrasounds on my thyroid confirm, one messed up gland,

And in the last 4 months spent, ohhh between co-pays, and prescriptions, 450$ on my hair, and it still looks like ****,....actually it dosent, I dont have any, but I do have a great collection of skull caps....LOL my fav is a tommy skull cap i got this weekend...:)

I was wondering how the people who have/use a laser brush rate it? Is it an effective tool? I remember reading a few posts some time ago from people who have one.

I have a couple of tubes of nizoral cream at four percent. has anyone ever use it?

Do u leave it in or do u rinse it out? Like the shampoo?

I use a homemade one regularly and have positive results. There's a guy on the board who has pics up at a hair loss site - all he's been using is the brush and it seems quite effective. For what you pay for one ($50 - $100), and the fact that its the most innocuous out of all the treatments, you can't go wrong with giving it a try.

Ketoconazole cream is more of a general anti-fungal,and is used to treat ailments like ringworm and athletes foot. I would think it would be too much of a hassle to use on the scalp, although perhaps you could dilute it and rinse it out - like you would with the shampoo.

A great article on Nizoral 2% and AGA can be found here:

another great thing although mesy as can be...mineral oil and salsilic acid compound.....it works..keeps the scalp, clear....well worked for me...

I'll use it full strength leave it on for 15 minutes then shower, at least on cycle. I believe I read somewhere that After 5 minutes the scalp has absorbed most of the medicine. This goes for minox, and spiro. Can anyone Chime in?

No, I think you have to leave it in for longer. I have heard that you need to leave in minox for five or so hrs.

I think he means the Nizoral cream...5-10 minutes should be enough. LSCULLA is right about the minox, you want to leave that on all day.

BV

As long as a bottle of Nizoral lasts I think this cream should last twice as long. All for the same price of the shampoo. I can't wait to use it(getting ready for the summer;)). If you know what I mean.

BigVrunga, do you use gel at all to style your hair? I'm 20 and have noticed thinning and a receding starting to occur, which sucks, so I'm looking to start my prevention now so I still have some hair, at least for a while. Can you point me in the direction of some sites with a log on LLLT use with pics as proof that isn't commercial? Have you kept a pic log at all and would you b willing to share it?

Just out of curiousity...

21 y/o male with a family history of MPB. No history of anabolic use. Minor shedding is beginning to occur above temples and hairline is beginning to slowly recede (hair on other parts of my head is very thick). When I wash my hair in the morning or even run my hands through my hair, I can usually see 5,6,7 or more strands of hair fall into the sink.

Would Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo (3% S/A) combined with non-pres. strength Nizoral (1% K) be effective in preventing hairloss under the following conditions?

It would be a good start at your age. Build, or buy yourself a laser comb too they seem to work quite well.

Smeton,

Nice work on the last 3 pics - looking good! As far as the hair thing goes, i dont think you have anything to worry about man. When your hair is wet, its going to look thinner. You just got your hair cut and you're paying attention to it more because youre on a cycle, so you see a little scalp and you get worried. I think its just psychological. If you're MPB was accellerating due to the anabolics, you'd see it thinning at the areas where you would naturally thin/receede.

Pay attention to your hands while your shampooing your hair in the shower - if you're done scrubbing your head and there are a bunch of hairs in your hand, you can bet there is some shedding going on. Granted a losing a few is normal - in fact I its normal to lose like 50-100 hairs a day as part of the normal growth process when you're in a shedding phase. If you grab about 100 hairs and give them a good tug, its normal to loose about 1-7 strands. (I think that's correct)

Check out this link for a more detailed explaination:

From your pics, your hair looks fine. If you're really concerned, pick up some 2% spiro and dab it on the areas that appear to be thinning 1x per day while your on cycle. But seriously bro I dont think its necessary.

i have an opportunity to overcome this now before i get older. im 25. Recently i did a superdrol cycle and completed post cycle therapy for 5 weeks...im just using up the last of Gaspari's novadex xt up. well recently fr the last few weeks i apply the azelaic acid when i get up and beore i go to bed. well i run my hands though my hair making sure and the AA gets on my hair about 10-15 times and every time about 10 hairs are on my hands. I do this for about 5 times....so about 50 hairs are coming out just on my hands in one session. two sessions a day thats 100 hairs, and i dont know how many fall out in between. Has anyone encountered this challange?

do i need to bump it up to the next level? if so any suggestions please

That could be shedding due to the anabolics, and your HPTA coming back online during PCT. Your natural test will spike at times during recovery, resulting in an increaase in DHT.

Are you taking Finasteride or another oral DHT blocker? You may want to try moderately high doses of saw palmetto extract to start- Ive been reading some reports that claim to see success fighting hairloss with SP.

Also, give the laser comb a try - so far Ive heard nothing but positive results from it, it also seems to be working very well for me

No not oral dht blockers. Only topical Nizoral (once or twice weekly) and Azelaic acid(every 12 hours)
I take about 2 grams of saw palmetto a day and have been doing so for about 2 years. ys ive also heard saw palmetto is a dht blocker but it's not proven to block hair(though the researchers said it may) but its blocking the dht in the prostate. cool ill keep everyone posted
