don't worry about that site. it's a bunch of propaganda. the risk of permanent side effects is close to nil. and if you were going to have side effects, you'd be having them big time at 5 times the normal dose. that said, i would reduce your dose to 1 mg unless you found higher doses to be necessary, in which case i'd reduce to 2 or 2.5 mgs. 5 mgs should not be necessary to reverse hair loss, as opposed to reducing enlarged prostate.

have you had your DHT tested? it's remarkable that you can stay lean (and your johnson hard) on that kind of dose.
 
Dude, I really appreciate the info. I was looking at this other forum and this guy was a 6 year veteran in the finasteride game and he claims that it has caused some ridiculous, and I mean ridiculous, problems for him. It is quite the sad story. I am definitely going to reduce my dose. Thanks man! Adrenals are getting better, hair loss has stopped, now I just need to work on those delts :)
 
lol yea me too, but i definitely dont want problems with the wang show, or my gains, im just back to my saw palmetto for now until i get some thing done, i checked out the hair supply website with all the shampoos and ****, ive noticed it early i think or at least plan on doing something about it before its actually gone, its just super thin in that area right now, blonde and naturally thin hair dont help the appearance, but thankfully im a big mofo compared to people my age so they keep thoughts to themselves.

if I haven't lost much hair from 2 Hdrol cycles, some MMV2, test boosters...would X-Tren (a little stronger compound) bring on more hairloss???
 
Wow, I just had a bomb dropped on me today. Since I was 19 I have been battling thinning hair and with the help of minoxidil, saw palmetto, and finasteride I have been able to reverse the effects and be able to sport a thick head of hair. I was talking with my doctor today and he told me that male pattern baldness is not a condition that people have to be forced to deal with. He explained that certain genes are either turned on or off given certain environmental factors. This blew my mind and I had no idea how I didn't pick up on this being a biochem minor. What he said made sense. He explained that certain heavy metals could be reaction with specific types of testosterone, rendering them "sticky" and changing their shapes on a molecular level which in turn causes male pattern baldness. Being impatient, I encouraged him to get to the point and reveal what the antidote is. He said that blocking dht and keeping one's scalp health and clear of dht is great, but removing possible heavy metals from one's system is idea. I asked how these heavy metals got into our systems and he said that since the 1980's the vaccines that we have been given increased the likelihood for heavy metal interaction by 300%. To make a long story short, what I got from his lecture was that pharmaceutical companies don't really care about us and making vaccines that were free of mercury or whatever heavy metal that is in question, would be too expensive. How to free our bodies of these materials is still beyond me. Much more research is needed, but I thought I would share this story with all my buds.

CRAZY!!! today in my neuro-psychology class we discussed how environmental factors/stress can cause certain genes to adapt or change and therefore being on difference inheritances...cool

Its called environmental toxins and EMF cause an increase in Nitric oxide which cause the alterations or complete blockages in the methione synthase path ways resulting in potentially triggering mutations in specific genes which 30% of the patients I see have. These mutation occur in the MTHFR which blocks proper metabolism of heavy metals and estrogens resulting in increase of cancers. This is common occurance and once these metabolic road blocks are corrected cancer, depression, diabetes, MS, CF, and other deadly degenerative diseases are greatly reduced.

Sorry to change things up guys... but i am looking for a little advice... I have a history in my family of balding and thin hair (grandpa is bald, dad is very thin) and my hair has always been of the thinner type. Anyways ive never had any hair loss, about 2.5 monthes ago I finished a 8 week epi pulse. I experience no hair loss on cycle but after the cycle about a month ago I noticed receeding hairline and now today im noticing shedding... could this be post effects to the epi? Do you think it will stop? I was on saw palmetto the whole time and i think the hairloss started after i stopped the Saw Palmetto. Should this supp become a staple for me?

What else can I do? Im freakin! ha
 
Twice a week is fine. its just expensive is all. More so than lets say "head and shoulders"

They sell 1% in the US OTC. So you can use that...oh lets say 3 times a week. Or order the 2% from a canadian website

If you check out that site, realize that they are a fraction of worldwide users, and most suffer from no site effects, and its speculative whether there issues come from the finasteride. Just saying. No offense to this poster.

Also worth noting. Nizoral can help reduce acne on cycle.

If you're prone to Bacne lets say, put a dab onto a loofa or back brush and scrub prone or affected areas. Leave it on for a couple of minutes, then rinse.
 
As an update, because I have received a ton of private messages regarding my finasteride usage/history, my hair is thicker than it has been for years now. I am close to feeling comfortable with growing it out. Anyone with thin hair knows that keeping it short makes it look thicker. Moreover, I switched from generic minoxidil solution to a solution that I bought online that is 5% minoxidil and 5% azelaic acid. Also, I am taking saw palmetto every day and have backed way down on my finasteride usage. I am not sure if it is because of the saw palmetto or the new topical solution, but my hair is extremely thick at the moment. The bottle of the new solution says in plain letters that it is for the purpose of blocking dht. I cannot pinpoint what is doing this, but I am thankful to say the least.
 
Ive always used saw palmetto, I read it works for the prostate...but its also worked with hairloss for me, that sounds interesting (blocking DHT)

I take finasteride- 1mg ED. I had some impotency issues, (IT WAS LIKE A SOGGY, WET NOODLE!) so I quit taking it for awhile. I read about saw palmetto and it's effects of not only blocking dht and promoting prostate health, but also it's aphrodisiac effects. Taking this along with finasteride has kept me VERY "functional" for the past few months. Just a thought.

Has anyone tried the Nioxin shampoo/conditioner kit? My gf works at a salon so she got it for about half the retail price but I have heard a ton of good reviews on it but that it takes like 4-6 months to notice progress.

I'm taking finasteride from years ago (along with minoxidil) with very good results and no sides.

I use it, but not everyday, probably EOD...from my experience it works good. but I want to try some of the other stuff people are listing on here

Yeah, it's quite expensive. I prefer denorex, or however you spell it, that is for psoriasis. It is supposed to help remove dht on the scalp because it is comprised of salicilic acid.

where do you get denorex? i'd like to try it out. the only place i know to get nioxin is this salon..
 
I'm coming back from a two year hiatus on the board to say that I'm going to try the laser comb again.

Despite a pretty rough 2008 and a lot of 2009, my hairline has yet to change. I had thin hair since I was 11 or 12 and got **** from friends for it. It didn't bother me much but it is interesting how now at age 24, a lot of them have less hair than I do!

I'm not going to arrogantly say that I will never suffer from MPB but with a lot of friends shedding hair and not mine that I might not have that problem. I did have a pretty bad sebum flareup during 2008 so now I apply 2% ketoconazole foam to my scalp.

At any rate, I'll either get a new comb from the same place I got it last since I lack the tools. My new plan:

- Emu Oil at night
- 2% Ketoconazole foam twice daily
- Comb for half an hour (I usually listen to a CD player when doing this so it doesn't seem like it takes that long)
- Minimal or no processed foods - I don't think this is MPB related but I don't know that for sure. I think stress triggers it but in my fat days, so did fast food.
- Eight hours of sleep to allow proper testosterone and growth hormone recovery. I typically sleep 4-5 hours.

Again, I'll keep you all updated although I see BV has not been around for quite a while.

I get mine at Walmart. It's like 8 bucks. Stay with that brand because the other psoriasis stuff seems to stay in your hair and is hard to wash out. Trust me, I've tried it all.
 
Is it safe or effective to use nizoral long term as a preventative measure? I am not really down with taking finasteride and was looking for something with less sides.

Nizoral would probably be fine long term, I would suggest minoxidil in place of nizoral in terms of something to use long term. Minoxidil is the only thing with any kind of long term research supporting its hair regrowth properties. A pain in the ass, yes, but I can definitely notice a difference with topical minoxidil.
