guyfromkop2's first meet

guyfromkop2

Board Supporter
well my first meet went a lot better than i had expected. i wasn't nearly as nervous as i thought i was going to be. it was only the second time using this shirt and i could barely get 385 to touch on monday. when i was warming up though i got 275 to touch and i knew from then on there was going to be absolutely no problems touching. so here's how it went:

Bench in single ply ragex
385x1
405x1
425xmiss, got to about 3-4 board height and left arm decided to stop moving, spotters grabbed the bar

Deadlift in single ply inzer max dl suit
405x1(smoke show, bar flew up)
450x2 reds, bar flew up but hitched it at the top so no go
470x1, 2 whites and thank you joel for getting that situation cleared up, the bar flew up and was a pr for me. definately had more in me

had a great time at the meet and a HUGE thank you to melissa for taking the trek up there with me, listening to all my constant ramblings, helping me getting my gear set up and for the constant support, it really meant a lot to me. plus thank you to my coaches john pinder, because i wouldnt of done nearly what i did and have such a love for this sport if it wasnt for you, and joel toranzo, for helping me learn how to use all this gear and hooking me up like crazy you definately made my first meet a lot easier than i could ever imagine. plus thanks to ron for handing off to me and grEGG for all your help on the deadlift. and i got to meet a lot of really great people like sandy, zane, kathy and dana. congrats to all the other competitors and it was great meeting everyone. see you at the next meet :D

Yeh it's all over for you now! Is it going to be a full meet or another Push/Pull? Nice lifts, congrats on your first meet what weight class did you compete in?

i competed in the shw division, only guy who competed in both the push/pull so i got first place :D

and the october meet is full power, i'm going to start losign weight because i'm just too heavy, i'm the biggest i've ever been and it's time to lose some fat and get stronger. so in october i'm going to compete in the 308s so my gear still fits. then after that get down to about 275-280 and stay put. that way i can get my gear altered and wont have to get all new stuff.

Outstanding, sounds like you have it all laid out! Even if your gear gets a little big on you, it will make excellent training gear. Unlike my closet full of junk, I started passing out suits and shirts last year when I finally accepted the fact I'll never be a 198er again:frustrate oh well mayber 220.
Good luck, maybe we'll bump at a meet down the road.

Nice lifts Mullet, especially for your weight. I am about 570 off the floor with no belt and no chalk (no straps either ;-)), however, I seem to get 405 x 6 and not much more because after that my grip just slips. I suppose the chalk could help that, beyond that though I am looking for ways to get the kung-fu grip action going. I've been doing farmer walks lately with DBs, but I feel that I need more than that. Any suggestions?

NO Chalk! I can barely hang on to 500 without chalk but can pull mid 7's with chalk, dude chalk is a huge help! You can also get liquid chalk which works well also. Just being able to hang on to heavier weights with chalk will go a long way in helping your grip.

Try some chalk man, it is definitely a life saver. I switched from straps to chalk one day because I couldn't find my straps and have not gone back. My grip is way tighter with chalk then it is straps.

And nah, they aren't that nice anymore...I'm almost 200lbs now..lol

use chalk, it's no big deal and just makes your hands drying, doesnt help in your lifting, and you could always go to hook grip :D

Thanks for the chalk advice guys! I'm going to go swing by Sportsmart later and pick some up. I didn't realize everyone else was using it, thought I'd be cheating myself or something.

and Mullet, 200lbs now? Damn! Seems like just the other day you tossed your pics up @ 175 right? Nice progress bro. 175 to 200 is a big visual difference at our height, I bet you are getting mobbed by the ladies hehe.

Again congrats to guyfromkop2 on your first meet bro!

Hey nice lifts, looks like you lost the groove on the way down with 425? You definitely have it in you. Man 470 DL you got way more in ya!! I wish they had these push/pulls when I first started PLing, the squat is so much work and it's so intimidating for a first (2nd/3rd/4th)meet. Nice Job though good luck on the next one, we expect video of the perfect x9

actually it was only the second time i was ever in that shirt, the sleeves were WAY too big so i had to double them over and pull them up, basically w/ poly's your lockout power is in the sleeves, they have to be VERY tight. that shirt is actually getting tailored right now and i know i can blow 425 out of the water when i get it back. and that day was the best dling day i've ever had, i definately had 500 in me that day, funny thing is 10 days before that i could barely get 465 to my knees

Where can you find a list of local competitions. I'm looking for a raw one at first. This is my week off and going to max out on friday to see where I am at but I don't think I will be too bad at one.
