GP’s Old Man With A Plan Log

I'm still thinking about the Renaissance Festival and protien icees in here. Did you see all the Shane Gillis drama this week calling out girls for dressing trashy at the gym, so they all doubled down and started posting more selfies in their disappearing yoga pants this week? everyones saying Shane is an evil genius playing 4D chess hahaha

Yeah, I saw it and it was hilarious, and in the end the punchline was self depreciating, about him being the fat guy drooling in the background staring at them in everyone's videos. A little bit funny most of the ones complaining about it stop the joke before the punchline because if they show the self depricating side of it, it holds less water.

I am at a point now, if you dress that way I AM GOING TO LOOK AT YOU! I am not going to stare, or leer, but I am going to grab multiple 1-2 second glances. If you don't want attention dress modestly. When I am lean and in a stringer and see people looking at me for what I have built, I appreciate the attention. I have no issues with them dressing this way honestly. I just have issues with them doing it and thinking they have a right to act like they are being violated if looked at. If that is the case they are violating me by making me uncomfortable by dressing that way and expecting me to curb my natural instinct to look. We all know how hard it is not to look, and trying not to is indeed uncomfortable. So f that nonsense, dress how you want but you don't get to tell me how to control my eyes.

Yep, exactly….the owner of our gym’s wife told me about it, and she thought he was hilarious, and she said exactly what you said Kleen. That they were taking it out of context, because the punchline was him being the out of shape guy drooling in the background.
Her and almost all the women at our gym wear yoga pants and know they are being looked at and seem to like it. Ha, most of the regulars are bold and flirty and love to flaunt it.😜🍑

the whole thing absolutely cracks me up. I don't have a problem with it, I am even open with my wife about it and tell her how much sluttier the girls at this new gym are compared to Tacoma. they can wear the exact same clothes yet somehow come across as sluttier. we have a "selfie" mirror literally in the lifting room. its called a selfie mirror, and its set up near the bootie builder machines which are literally called like bootie builder and bootie blaster lol. Our new rig is like 10 power rigs where they face each other. so if you get into a bad rhythm, you could accidentally be making eye contact with the dude in front of you while you both squat rep for rep. thats sorta awkward. most guys will wait till your set is done lol. But a week or two ago the girl decides to face away from me to do her RDL's while I'm squatting, and she's presenting full camel toe, from behind. now those yoga shorts must have been HUNGRY. All I know is I finished my 250 sets of BBB and got out of there.

Yeah that sounds like an accidental leering situation waiting to happen. A Brother can get suddenly "hungry" in moments like that.

Only me and 3 other guys today, we rocked out to Guns & Roses, Pearl Jam, and Megadeth. I was really pleased how well 160 x 6 moved on OHP. Felt like I had 1 to 2 more reps in the tank, so I’ll take it. Megadeth started playing when I started the close grip low rows, and even though I normally keep the weight reasonable at 160 because I try to go heavy on my upper back day early in the week and moderately lighter on this upper body day, I was really in beast mode and decided to finish with 175 and 190. Really a fun intense workout today.😎👍

When you’re on a gram of gear in a college town, it’s not even an accident! Lol

The trick is not to make it creepy or awkward, more complimentary. Which, truthfully, maybe only actually comes down to me being handsome & jacked - but the world isn’t fair I suppose 🤷‍♂️

I have always felt a brutal set of ~8 well-performed rows is one of the most productive! A couple of those, where the intensity is top shelf, really seem to smash things effectively on an exercise for me.

Ha, we do get on some interesting subjects up in here.😂
That’s so true about that brutal set of 8….going for 10 , but on that 8th rep it’s all you can do to get the elbows back with one last roar….that’s the best sets.😎👍

Well 280 x 2 with a pause felt about like 275 x 2 did last month, so still making progress even in cycle 7. I may not reach my goal of 315 by the end of the year, but I’m pleased and not gonna rush it, and just enjoy the continued progression. Ha, I’ll get there eventually….us old timers just take a little longer.💪😎👍

Awesome man, congrats yet again!

It's really amazing to me how successful all of the regulars on AM are. I truly mean this when I say you guys are UNSTOPPABLE. You have a goal, you reach it. You hit a PR, you progress past it. It's really dang inspiring!

You, @Dustin07 @Hyde etc. Every day I see it happen and it's frankly wild!

Thanks guys…. I really do believe this AM community helps us to be better and reach or at least get closer to our goals. Not only do we encourage and cheer each other on, but the wealth of knowledge and real world experience and advice is so valuable.

That’s for sure and sometimes to just vent/talk about things all life related that everyone can relate to at some point and time.

yessir. last night I hit the driving range on my way home after squats and I asked myself what it is that keeps me accountable to prioritize lifting before hitting the range, otherwise I could just swing golf clubs every day. and I instantly thought that its AM. I have a sense of accountability to what we've have created here for sure.

btw, great benching !!

Man, I had a tough day at work and got to the gym late. It was packed, but thankfully I was able to get warmed up and get my workout in without having to wait on any equipment. I felt good while I was in the zone and working out, but felt really drained again by the time I got home. My wife made Bison burgers, sweet potato fries in the air fryer, salad with fresh sliced tomatoes and jalapeños. I ate and went to sleep within 15 minutes. Just woke up a little while ago and remembered I needed to log this workout….time to get back to bed and try to finish this full night of sleep.😎🥱

What kind of engineering do you do? I’m in Civil- mostly bridges.

I'd like to piggy back on to that question and ask you both how do you see AI helping or hindering engineering in the future? My son is finally starting to take some interest in after high school work and engineering is high on his list, although he's not sure what field exactly.

how did you get into bridges?

Mechanical Engineer in manufacturing…commercial buildings and commercial roll up doors (Panel and Rolling Steel). Our largest customers are U-Haul and Public Storage, but we build way more than just their projects. They are just our top customers. We do everything from manufacturing all the components to building and installing the complete job. I split my time between our R&D and prototype testing, and our machining and fabrication production. It keeps me busy.

It can definitely help and will speed things up. We are using AI in different departments like our technical sales estimators and our field project managers. But we really have to double check because we have caught some mistakes. Right now it’s so early and all the bugs are still being worked out. But what a lot of people don’t realize is AI is heavily dependent on human input in these early stages, and what it can do now very well is process a lot of information very quickly. But one of the problems is it sometimes receives incorrect information, so they still need to dial in the programming to do a better job at vetting the info. A lot of people thinks it’s perfect, but it just isn’t yet. Ha, it’s still learning, but at a very fast pace. I will say anything he can learn and get into with AI is the future and will eventually be where the big money is.

what kind of schooling did you do to get into that? my buddy does similar work in aerospace up here, mostly on the costing side now. He's 70 and loves it but will probably retire soon. He had his own machine shop many years ago and decided he didn't want to run his own anymore. I actually don't think he went to school for it though, I think he learned it the old school way

yes I tell people they need to treat it like an intern, much like what Jim had said about his law firm using it. we have actually started working with a company that created an AI costing software and its pretty good, but fairly expensive at about $3k/month. we had to have our IT company write new patch work to integrate it into our MRP, and we had to get extra compliance because of industries we are in. But I said from day one, if we work with them, we will make them a better company because they're only scratching the surface and it still needs a lot of improvement. but bvasically the AI reads the drawing and the BOM, helps populate a cost, tooling requirements etc, then my actual costing engineers have to proof read it. so humans are still needed but it helps speed up some of the time consuming data entry side.

I got my Bachelors from a small college here in Georgia that was Southern Technical College in the 70s and 80s, and in the 90s they changed the name to Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. Georgia Tech owned the college when I went, but now Kennesaw State University in Georgia owns them. 😎

Yep, it is helping to speed up processes. A lot of our estimators like to use it to double check their numbers and measurements on their projects, and it has really helped speed up the process for them and save time and money. So for us it has been helpful we just like to make sure our people know to stay within the parameters we have set up and understand where it can fall short, and not to think it can do their work exclusively without their expertise….it’s only a tool.

Got into bridges just by happenstance. Also for the record I am not a engineer and have no college background.

I started doing construction administration and inspection on box culverts and bridge construction and that led to helping my team with bridge inspections. That led to 5+ years of experience and then I took the FHWA 2 week course and passed the exam to be certified to inspect bridges.

Then that led into assisting other states teams in bridge inspections and reporting. And also doing assisting structural engineer for bridge and culvert designs.

We are using AI to try to improve process and management of plan tables quantities etc. so far it has NOT in are uses of it been a huge benefit.

That’s cool! Always interesting how many different aspects there are to keep the country turning and going. You get to do some welding as well?

Oh yeah…we also have a big powder coating paint line in our rolling steel plant.

What kind of dressing do you use on your salads? You always say what’s in them, but not on top - I just realized and made me curious 😝
It’s a homemade Italian dressing my wife makes with olive oil, red wine vinegar, a little Dijon mustard, a little lemon juice, and a lot of herbs and spices. If you want I’ll get her to write down the recipe and I’ll post it tonight. We like it a lot….ha, our Grandson just uses ranch.😎

My legs were toast after this workout. My guy had installed another one of the machines he bought a few weeks ago. It’s a used Hammer Strength Pendulum Leg Press. It just says leg press on it, but you get in the seat and you’re already in the bottom position when you put your feet on the platform, with your knees almost touching your chest. The seat is adjustable too. And man it really hits the glutes and hamstrings hard, it’s awesome. So I loved this workout….the Star Trac leg press does a good job hitting the quads, hammies, and glutes, the York Front Squat really blasts the quads, and the HS Pendulum Leg Press destroys the glutes and hamstrings, and then finish it off with the Standing Calf Raise machine, and my legs were toast….I love it.
Since I was able to get in pretty early it was only me and the owner there, so I took a couple of pictures of the 3 machines.
This is the HS Pendulum Leg Press…

Yeah the pendulum like that really does get the gutes and hams, this is what I was mentioning regarding mine at home. However mine is also really good on the quads too.

I thought you had mentioned one in your log when I saw the one he got us. You can feel it in the quads as you press and extend, but man in that start position, with your knees at your chest it really does blast the glutes and hammies. It’s definitely at a different angle compared to our other leg press. It was great using it after those high reps on the York front squat, which blasted my quads. Ha, I definitely feel it in my quads, glutes, and hammies today.😎👍

It is interesting how differently the pendulum/lever leg press works, and then how different it feels compared to the other kind of flipped over pendulum / leverage leg press.

This is what mine looks like at home, it has a max of 400lbs freeweight added which is plenty for this thing to be VERY HARD. My workebench is attached to the rest of my system though, not freestanding. So it is more secure than just the bench.
