Its round 38 outside every thing is still really cold. They throw perfectly great food away every day most times because it expires the next morning. The experation date is in no way a representation of if the food is actually bad. So 90% of the time the stores just throw it out as a protection so they can't be liable. Don't be fooled of sketched out. Use ur head to determine if the food is actually bad. I kno people with children who have been eat "trash" the past five years n have never gotten sick.

I didn't mention this is a quality stuff ..all organic. Where eating food we would never be able to afford before!

Nice man.. there putting a whole foods in my area too. Can't wait to hit it. I was wondering of homeless people knew bout all this food.? Also I would recommended just jumping the fence instead of cutting lock if it just gated Cuz you'll wanna go back bunch LOL. Can't have them kno your there ha. Hopefully they don't have a garbage compressor like lots of the large markets in my area. Oh yea I normally hit the places kinda late like 12-1 when everyone leaves. Best wishes!

Oh they actually lock the actual dumpsters now I've seen. The lids shut with a bar that flips over top. I think its more to keep people from dumoing illegal then ward off dumpster divers. What organic market do you dive at?

They are. Its called the good Samaritan law.

I don't think this applies to this. Usually good Samaritan laws pertain to saving someone's life, like when performing CPR or saving someone from drowning. Besides the food is suppose to be expired, Im guessing that the law prevents them from giving it away for consumption. Im also guessing that the law prevents charities from using food that has expired labels.

No that's actually part the law. It states a company can't be sued for the food it donates. Grocery stores give way stale bread n stuff all the time. Fruits m meats they just throw out. Some times up to three days before experation. That food could be donated.

Can you show me where you read that?

I work in the meat department of a grocery store, some of the meats are left in 60 degrees for up to 12 hours before they are tossed. Bacteria grows in 40 degrees to 140 at a rapid rate. Sometimes it's left in room temperature for a few hours. Also some of the products are bought and returned to the store, thus having to be thrown away regardless of date and from there you have no idea what they were handled like. And you don't know what is in the trash surrounding the food. Be careful my friend you may be saving in the short, but end up paying for it in the long

^^ valid food for thought. I'm very pick bout the stuff we keep. Lots the meats we get are frozen from the start n NY the time we her them they are still partially frozen. Definitely need to be careful. Wont be dive for meat at all once it warms up though ..

I saw this thread title and instantly thought this was some kind of an insult to someone lol. Of all things, it sounds like something Daggett, from The Angry Beavers, would yell.

It's definitely a risky move. I won't say that I haven't taken stuff from curbside during big trash pick up or out of a dumpster, but never food. I worked in the meat department of a grocery store for a short time and like mccallister pointed out, it's not all kept refrigerated the whole time. And the people who return meat would always enrage me; and make me just as angry at the store for allowing them to do it, since it had to be thrown out -- just wasteful.

I'm game, I'm going to whole foods in about an hour, I'll swing around back and check it out. It's winter and still cold during the day so. IMO meat spoilage is overrated anyways. I think it's a good idea to be cautious but I have eaten a ton of stuff beyond exp. and that's sit out all day a room temp. I just always make sure to cook it a little longer than normal. Thanks for the head up hungry4more.

Awesome man! Let us kno how it goes

so, got 2 rib eye steaks and about 8 lbs. of 90/10 ground beef. They had quite a bit but that was all I found packaged. Also I was getting a few passers by giving me the look. Don't really care and will most certianly be checking back more frequently to stock the deep freezer.

Lol meant dumpster hunting not actual hunting but that woulda been nice too ;-)

Man! Definitely some good finds. I wish we had organic food stores out where I live. Because there is no doubt that in the winter here the food would remain frozen... But now spring is here and is at low of 35 only on some days. Def keep in mind tho. Def can find good/safe finds in dumpster if ur selective and knowledgable about food.

As food ppl staring. Ah oh well. Def worth a ribeye or more ;)

To price conscience supp buyers like ourselves, it's a dirty word ;).

Haha for sure. They are def the enemy.. Ill be buying stock in them though, word is a 10-12% growth expected this year..

Hmmmm dumpster dive supplement shops. Not a bad idea. Altho when I worked at one... Ours was locked :( and anytime we threw out anything we opened it and poured it put too. Such a waste...

So hopefully u have better luck at urs...

Anyone have any good finds recently? I been just eating what we have at the moment haven't dived in bout week low on fresh veggies so may go out tonight.

Totally digging how people are logging their dumpster diving hahaha! Here in Ohio we have an opposite system-homeless people steal meat from the big stores, then they sell it to a fence, and then it goes into a big-ass black market. Even if we donated the meat, they would sell it.

My best friend worked at *** and he said they wouldn't even give him the stuff they were throwing away he ended up getting fired bc he filled his back pack up with "garbage" and the regional manager or owner or something came in to make sure he close up ok since it was his first night closing up and the moron left his back open by the cash register
