I've been looking around for L-phenylalanine and alpha ketoisocaproic acid (KIC). I've been reading Des' log on GAKIC, LEUKIC, and Anator and I thought about home-brewing the Anator/Leukic and seeing if its worth it.

I know Im not a rep for CNW, but as for the KIC (gakic), muscletech put a patent on the ingredients. I know, because I asked about it before. Just letting you know man. :)

I'm not talking about making knockoffs of the products, I just want the ability to dose some of the ingredients in the products (ie KIC, phenylalanine, leucine) on my own. I highly doubt MT has patented KIC, infact Leukic is based on using leucine and KIC seperately, not bound together. I see no reason why someone can't sell the ingredients that make up a product on their own. The reason G-Force was pulled because it was an exact knockoff of GAKIC. If someone were to sell glycine, arginine, KIC, and calcium all seperately one could combine all and have something along the lines of GAKIC, just not chemically bound together.

No no no no, I don't think you understand how the calcium works in the formulation.

Ketoisocaproic acid is an acid, right? According to the Bronsted/Lowry acid/base rules, it will lose the H+ ion when dissolved in water, and become a free cation. The calcium is bonded to KIC to make it a buffering agent instead of an acid. This will allow you to gain the benefits of KIC without the H+.

Calcium is used in the muscles sarcoplasm in contraction, but gets stored in the bone, so there's really no adaptogenic properties behind getting extra calcium. It is used for making KIC into a salt for better absorbtion, and has a buffering effect on the bloods pH (neutralized lactic acid).
