The stuff I put up is far from metal. Listen to it. You will love it :) Joe Satriani is phenomenal and catchy. Steve Vai (the first link) - he's a little out there, but that song is pretty cool.

hairygrandpa HIT4ME

That's actually cool man. I may have to put some of their stuff in my workout list.

Today's weigh in:

Bodyweight: 177.5 pounds
Tanita Bodyfat %: 23%
Waist: 38.5"

Yesterday I had about 900 calories. It's kind of funny that my habits now are geared toward just making 800 calories and eating 300 calories more actually kind of feels like a lot...not a ton...but I feel like I'm cheating, haha.

I had a Select Café yesterday morning (100/20 g), 2 oz. beef jerky (150/ 25 g), 1 scoop Modern Protein (130/24g), 5 oz fish (120 /27 g), 1 bag broccoli (120/3), 1 scoop of Modern Protein in 1/2 pack sugar free pudding (180/24), 1 cheese stick (50/6) = 850 calories/129g protein.

Took a shower this morning and applied Exotherm and Supernova, took my DCP, Brite and IDL fat burner.

The Supernova is slightly sticky and takes a long time to absorb. I put about 1/2 dollar size circle directly onto a plastic bag and apply it to my sizes, back, and stomach and spend a good amount of time rubbing it in with the plastic bag. It still leaves a sticky residue. When I shower in the morning, I can feel the residue on my skin from the night before.
Kaprice - just because we were talking about it before - sometimes it seems to be REALLY strong with the icy/hot feeling and other times it's barely there at all for me. I can feel it, but last night it was almost nothing and today it's minimal. Yesterday morning it was pretty intense. I've been shaking the heck out of the bottle now just to be sure it's mixed.

You're killing it Brother! Keep the good work up..

Thank you sir....Like I said, I just jumped in the river. You guys are carrying me.

So, I'm thinking of getting back into the gym today, and thinking of trying out some HST-Style training. It intrigues me. But something has been bothering me and I couldn't quite figure it out. I was trying to tweak the workouts just a little and something doesn't fit. Then I realized, there's no deadlifts in this program. Squats, but no deads.

Think I should just stick with the outline that is all over the internet? Or maybe do squats on the first and third workout and deads on the second in place of squats? Or just don't do deads?

They prescribe rdl or sldl I think.

The idea being, you generally wont manage traditional dl and squats 3x per week. There is a variation where you do dl every 2nd workout.

Im not a fan myself, I think non linear periodisation is much better, more rewarding.

So, got back to working out today. This was my first workout since starting the Supernova. Honestly, dsade is going to have to change his website soon. I think he ranks Brite as his most successful formula, and then BMP. I've only been on it for 3 days but the effects are much more accute than I expected.

I wasn't feeling great before my workout either....it's been a long week and I was run down feeling. I wanted to get back though so I did. I applied Supernova before I went to workout.

I had a plan for a modified HST type training. I am not sure if it is because I was run down, because I am not used to doing higher reps (15), or what...but the workout was harder than I expected.

Also, the Supernova really had me sweating AND shivering a little. It was strange. Not totally unpleasant. But I was drenched and even after the workout I took a hot shower, when normally this time of year I need them to be cold. The hot shower just didn't feel that hot to be honest.

My workout was as follows:

Squats:
1 x 8 x 185 warm up
1 x 15 x 205

Straight Legged Deadlifts
1 x 8 x 135 warm up
1 x 12 x 205

Bench Presses
1 x 8 x 95 warm up
1 x 8 x 165

I failed at 8 and wanted to get 15. A little of it was miscalculation, but I was also exhausted already...surprisingly

Pull Ups
1 x 9 x BW

I have never done 15 pull ups so this wasn't too shocking

Military Presses
1 x 8 x 75

This is normally my warm up, but I was just out of juice at 8. Again, shocked.

Triceps Rope Press Downs
1 x 12 x 25

Missed 15 because I was so tired

Barbell Curls:
1 x 13 x 55

Again, I failed because of exhaustion...not because of muscular failure.

In the end, I didn't perform great, but I think this workout will help me work on improving some weaknesses and improve. We will see how it goes.

You are correct. I see some templates that use the SLDL. I may do squats and SLDL workout A and then do a workout B and do Deads, leg presses and leg curls. Thanks for the help!

So, we were both a bit run down, today. Well, I'm glad to see you took your own advice!

So, HGP was talking about Phenibut in another thread and I realized I had some Revivarant G still last night. I didn't really need help sleeping, but decided it would be nice to get some nice, deep, deep sleep last night, so I decided to have some fun and take it. Only, when I opened it, I hadn't used it in a long while and it was clumped together and I only had about 1 scoop left. I normally use 1/2 scoop or even 1/3 scoop. I just decided, WTH, and just took the entire scoop (maybe a little more than a scoop) that was left.

I was OUT COLD. I slept for about 9 hours and at 8 AM my gf asked if I was getting up ...I would have slept all morning. I woke up a little dizzy, and very euphoric. I was walking out of my house, to give you an idea of how high I was, and I saw my gf's car and my car (which I just bought a couple months ago) and I thought - two silver cars in the driveway. We have the same color car. And I found that very funny for some reason, haha.

Then, as I was leaving my house, a guy was stopped at the end of the road and I couldn't get around him because he had me blocked, and he didn't realize I was there and just sat there for a while. Normally I would have honked or gotten a little ...not angry, but I would have waived my hands and thought, "Wake up! What the hell are you doing stopped in the middle of the road!???"

But, I just waited, and eventually he realized and moved without any intervention, and then drove erratically (which would have really made me crazy normally) and then finally pulled over. I was going to stop and ask if he needed help finding an address in the neighborhood....not angry at all...but I was so late and he didn't stop in a spot that I could really stop, so I moved on. I'm just a little high/euphoric I guess. Not my normal anxious self.

Not sure why I've been stuck here for so long. I'm feeling leaner if I grab my sides and the SN definitely has my fat feeling less dense around my stomach - but my weight is just holding steady. I guess I just have to keep going and have faith in the process.

Yeah, I hate waking up in the morning at the same weight I was when I went to bed. It just feels like SOMETHING should have burned off. :)

lol, yeah - actually, at night, I often weigh 179-180 still. I drink A LOT (like a couple gallons a day) and that alone can cause some big swings in weight. But waking up a pound more than what I was yesterday, and in the same range I've been in for more than 3 weeks....it's a little frustrating for sure.

Phenibut is my once a week drug of choice. I don't get sleepy on it, just relaxed and a bit euphoric. It paints the gray world in colors for me. With alcohol and people to party with, you'll really lift off. My ideal dose is 1.5gr followed by a chaser of 1gr 2 hours later.

Ok. So HGP sent me here to get educated on how to run stuff, work hard, and eat next to nothing......got tired just reading some of your workouts! Looking forward to catching and keeping up! :)

Lol, thank you. You guys give me too much credit - my workouts are hard, but generally 1/3-1/4 the volume some guys, if not most, do on this board. And I really mean it when I say that a lot more of this effort is thanks to you guys. When Hastur and NewAgeMayan talked me into doing this log, I had no idea how it was going to carry me further than I'd ever made it before in my life as far as my health goals go. I am the same weight I was after dieting in college and probably leaner now. Thanks to the guys who talked me into this - I keep calling it a river - but it really is like walking through the woods, coming to a river out of nowhere and just jumping in and the current carries you. You may not know where you will end up, but you just hop in and get carried and enjoy the ride. So I owe you guys all a lot.

At any rate, I am trying to incorporate some referees 1x per week now that I am a but leaner. So today I've eaten 2 oz. Turkey jerky(140/24), and 2 scoops of Select Cafe (200/40).

Then I worked out around 7. I did the following workout:

Deadlifts:
1 x 8 x 225 warm up
1 x 12 x 315

Leg Press:
1 x 15 x 450

Bent Over Rows:
1 x 15 x 135

Bench Presses:
1 x 8 x 95 warm up
1 x 9 x 165

Rope Face Pulls:
1 x 15 x 35

Triceps Press Downs:
1 x 15 x 25

Barbell Curls:
1 x 15 x 55

And that was it. I actually felt a little like throwing up after, which is strange because I don't feel like these workouts are all that hard and I'm not going to all out failure. I think the higher rep range (15) is just not what I am used to and I will get better. So far I am liking it though.

After the workout, I had my referred. I had:

1/2 pound 93% lean ground beef
1 cup rice
1/4 cup cheddar cheese
1 flour tortilla
About 3 raviolis....my gf had ravioli for dinner

About an hour after that I had 2 oven baked frozen pretzels and 1 cookie.

Total referred calories are about 1,600, 75 grams protein, 230 g carbohydrate, 40 g fat. I was probably a little high on the fat, but not out of control I don't think. Totals for the day are about 2,000-2100 calories, 140 g. Protein

I am feeling very very full. We will see what I weigh in the morning, haha.

Oh snap! I referred Tank999 to your log because he was interested in your super-low-cal approach and forgot you upped calories recently to get fat again.

Sorry for that...

Lol, the law of thermodynamics should still be in my favor and this should also prove some of the metabolic screeching halt believers a little bit wrong....since I may have proven them a little bit right already at times. As you get leaner, Lyle suggests that's when the metabolism changes occur. Over 25% body fat and metabolic slow down isn't much of a co concern in his eyes. Near 10%, and it becomes a much bigger issue. 10-25% and you need to be managing a little.

Plus, I have a cheat coming up on Wed. That is a little hard to avoid....it is my 37th bday!

I am glad if you get something from this. That is one of my biggest hopes in this - to help people find new ideas they were afraid to consider and achieve their goals with whatever it is I should have learned by now

OTOH, they say more muscle INCREASES metabolism. I think that's the idea behind lifting heavy while dieting so the increased muscle increases metabolism enough to offset the decreased metabolism from lower BF.

Gaining muscles while in a cal deficit is tricky and works almost exclusively for weight lifting beginners and users of AAS/PH's and Sarms.
I did exactly what you are saying and bulked first, thinking that more muscles burn more cals, accelerating fat loss later on.
It did not work well, as the new gained muscles did not burn as much cals as I were hoping.
So I did a cut with a lot of Sarms, MK-677 and Cardarine, that kept my weight pretty stable while losing BF, meaning I gained muscles.
The side effects were harsh so I do not recommend my protocol.
Here a link to my old log:

Yeah, it's tougher if you've already been lifting for a while.

You're just 47??? I'm 55 and I only became a grandpa 3 months ago.

You don't get to call yourself OLD, anymore!

I had that elbow injury a few years ago. Really sucks. I'm trying to be more cautious this time around.

I just call myself "grandpa" but I'm really only a dad.
Congrats to the new family member!

By the way, I did not cheat tonight, had 7 boiled eggs instead of 7 Oreos, LOL.

Glad to see I am not the only one that does this hahaha.

Yes, more muscle burns more calories, but so does carrying around more weight. If you are 300 pounds of fat you will burn more calories walking g down the street than someone weighing 200 pounds (unless they are carrying 100 pounds of weights).

And the increased metabolic rate is oversold, as HGP who does not even have a grandkid (congrats to KAPrice....at least that kid has a smart grandfather and not a hairy one). I've seen studies suggesting a pound of new muscle burns approx. 6 additional calories/day. So 30 pounds of extra muscle will allow you to eat 2 cookies per day more than if you didn't have it.

And, also like HGP said, building muscle in a deficit for anyone who isn't a new trainer is very very hard. Part of my hope behind this log is to actually moderate the other side of that argument though - that larger deficits cause muscle wasting at incredible rates. I am sure I've lost some muscle....but far from burning through it too.

Holy ****. I've been sleeping for hours and got up to take a leak and checked this....didn't see you two were responding now! KAPrice, go to sleep. If you are in East coast time, it is 3 AM and you'd better not be eating crackers and cookies!!!!

Exactly what I was experiencing. One really should cut first before attempting a bulk. HIT4ME, I bet you are looking forward to eat that 2 extra cookies after gaining said 30lbs of muscle, no need to buy those cookies until 2025.

That's 2 cookies EVERY DAY that I can eat!!!! I could save up for a week and just eat a half package or something, it will be awesome. So, in 2025 in will be able to buy approx. 25 extra packs of cookies per year!

Today's Weigh in:

Bodyweight: 177 pounds
Tanita Bodyfat %: 23%
Waist: 38.25"

Go figure. I hit 176, don't eat a thing all day and wind up at 177 the next day. Then, from 177 I have a "refeed" filled with starchy carbs and such, and no weight gain at all. It was kind of fun too - felt full and almost like I was over eating. And got 2 eat 2 pretzels for 440 calories in all that for a snack. I guess I can't complain about that. Let's see if it actually speeds things up again.

Yeah, that would blow my calorie goals away probably, plus I think the point of the refeed isn't to totally sub the diet, but to make it more effective.

So, for today's diet I've had 2 oz. Turkey jerky (140/24), 1 scoop modern protein (130/24), 2 cheese sticks (100/12), 12 oz. Flounder (270/51), 1 bag broccoli (120/3). Totals to this point: 760 calories and 115 g protein .

I will add a half package of pudding and scoop of chocolate Select Protein for (200/25). And maybe another cheese stick for another 50/6.

I will be right around 1000 calories and 150 g protein.

Today's weigh in:

Bodyweight: 177
Tanita Bodyfat %: 23%
Waist: 38.5"

Seems like there is a wall that my body will not go below. But I do feel like I'm looking slightly leaner every day in the mirror. Will see how the updates come out.

Today is going to be a very bad diet day. My gf is going all out tonight and I'm sure I'll be eating lots of stuff I should not eat....it will probably be an epic disaster.

And, for my birthday, I got a new scale and a fit bit. Not sure what I think of the fit bit yet - looks pretty cool. The scale looks neat too - it is a fit bit aria scale and keeps track of everything wirelessly. Hi tech. I liked it already because when I took my first measurement it said I was 20.6% bodyfat, not 23% like the tanita.....that made me feel better, haha.

Yesterday wasn't a good diet day, at all. It was filled with bad eating. Lots of it. So much that I couldn't even fall asleep last night because I was so uncomfortable. Compared to how I used to let go, it's probably not that bad, but I ended up having a couple donuts during the day, a peanut butter and jelly bacon cheese burger with fries and onion rings for dinner (well, 3/4 of the cheeseburger, couldn't finish it) and then a cupcake later on after dinner (instead of birthday cake...this way I didn't have an entire cake to get rid of). There was a day I could have eaten that all in one sitting and still been looking for more. I felt like I was forcing it all in last night, and like I said, I couldn't even fall asleep afterward until about 2 AM. I just laid in bed uncomfortable for a few hours....yuck.

Today's weigh in with the new Aria Scale:

Bodyweight: 177.3 pounds (no gain!! go figure)
Aria Bodyfat %: 19.6%
Waist: 38.5"

Just to compare to the old scale, I weighed myself on that this morning too:

Bodyweight: 176 (again, go figure)
Tanita Bodyfat %: 22%

So the new scale shows approx. 2% less bodyfat than the old scale. The old scale did have two settings - adult and "athlete" and I know the athlete mode typically showed a much lower %, but I didn't use it because let's face it, these scales are just really rough estimates and are only really good for giving you a tool to measure progress.

I also did a workout yesterday before we went out to eat, but I forgot my log at home and I'm at work now. I will post it up later.

I sat down to have a cheat meal like that after 2 years on my diet - feeling good has just RUINED pigging out! I felt so uncomfortable afterward, I just can't do it!

Btw, I have 3 different high end scales - the weights are within half a pound of each other, but the bf% differs in 5-8%!

I do believe that an occasional pig out that makes you uncomfortable can go a long way towards reducing your cravings for the next few days. You might call it aversion therapy.

The no weight gain is interesting because, presumably, most of that food was still in your body, somewhere.

But, it's possible you stoked your "furnace" with all that food and burned more calories than normal for a short time. In fact, that's sort of the concept behind occasional refeeds.

So, it sounds like the trick to getting past a plateau is to buy a different scale! :)
