Ephedrine question

I'm going to take Claritin-D for allergies and swollen sinuses, and it contains pseudo-ephedrine.

Now I was thinking, since it's over the counter and tracked like ephedrine (for the same reason), is it the same thing...ie if I want to take the ECA stack could I count the Claritin-D as my ephedrine? Or is it different enough (being pseudo) that it wouldn't have the same fat burning effect?

I'm just wondering, I don't want to take more than I need to.

You missed my question.

I am going to take Claritin-D for my allergies anyway and was wondering if the pseudo-ephedrine is basically the same thing and would have the same effect as ephedrine, therefore I could skip the Bronkaid.

That is all.

Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine both have the exact same chemcial formula; The only difference is in the chiral structure (the orientation of the atoms). And, because of this orientation, the pseudo-ephedrine ends up being less potent as ephedrine in almost every way (except for it's effects on the sinuses). Otherwise, effects are the same (as well as cardiac effects), just lesser. I do believe you CAN use pseudoephedrine, but you'll need more of it. And, I really don't think it'll be all you think it is. How often do you take your Claritin? To be honest, and I really hope someone else chimes in on this, but I really don't think the Claritin would really interfere with a normal ECA dosage, but I also wouldn't advise using the Claritin as an ephedrine replacement. There is 240mg pseudoephedrine in the 24-hour formulation, along with 10mg loratidine. Not sure about the loratidine though. I would research this some more, as at least from the outside looking in, I wouldn't be surprised if there were potential complications with this stack. I'll keep looking! Hope I helped.

Well, I checked the msds, and I don't notice anything out of the ordinary for chemicals of the amphetamine class. The only thing I wish I could find is the potency difference (in %) between amphetamine and pseudoephedrine, and on what effects. And, seeing as how the effects are differently weighted with pseudoephedrine (more directed towards certain effects than others), I really don't think I would use pseudoephedrine for weight loss, nor would I use it with ANY weight loss stack containing stimulants. If you do use Claritin-D with ECA, please stagger the dosage significantly though, because I have NO idea how effective the time release part of the formulation is, and I think it might be hazardous to have 240mg pseudoephedrine (worst case scenario) along with ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin, and 10mg loratidine running through your system at one time. I really hope I answered your question in there somewhere!

P.S.
If Claritin makes you feel anxious in ANY way without the ECA, I'd DEFINITELY shy away from ephedrine.

Thanks Diablosho.

I was planning on the 24 hour dosage.

Does ephedrine shrink sinuses as well? I never noticed anything....

Theoretically, ephedrine would help a stuffy nose, but not as much as pseudoephedrine. That is the area where pseudoephedrine shines (according to the research articles I've been able to find). As always, take that (and everything I've said in reality) with a grain of salt, as I am not a doctor. I'm just interested in chemistry (after I get out of the Air Force, I'm going to go to school for BioChemistry), so I've been really studying up. Also, ephedrine is much better at opening airways than pseudoephedrine. Just different courses of action. I guess the best way to describe this "phenomenon" would be like this. Have you ever heard someone say "jagermeister makes me beligerent", but other types of alchohol are okay. Kind of the same principal. They all contain grain alcohol, but yet have different effects on the same person. Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine are the same chemical, but have different effects. Kind of a flawed analogy, but I think it is a good way to explain it (at least as I understand it). Anywho, take it easy!

I know ephedrine is used for asthma because it opens up the bronchial tubes, and the psuedo is for sinuses, I honestly think that by taking the ECA stack, you won't even need to use your Claritin. You might want to just the ECA it might work for allergies.... but I probably wouldn't mix the two, and if you chose to, be careful.
