Douchebags at the gym...

Cracking the F-up twiceee

I'd say overall the place I go, people go out of their way to be extra polite. It's very cool, not what I expected at all.

As far as the unqualified doing training, I agree. Friends of mine that have noticed that I'm starting to make serious progress have asked me on a few occasions to train them, advise, or show them the ways. I always respond that I'm still a newb, and that I'm way under-qualified. I'll give them advice on the specific routines I use that work for me, and sometimes write down a schedule and offer the generic diet advice, but I'm not in any position to pass along anything. Far too novice. I should be asking questions, not answering them.

Got one today, saw a Kevin hart skit come to life. I'm in the rack doing squats when I hear some dude screaming and grunting like a friggin banshee over at the benches. I look over and see this guy slapping his chest and pacing back forth in front of the bench with 465 on the bar, now he was a pretty big guy so I thought he might actually have a chance at pushing it so I stopped and watched (thought I'm either gonna see an awesome lift or an epic fail), as did everyone else who heard him grunting, (the whole gym). He finally gets under the bar and we all think he's gonna unrack the bar when he shoots back up and checks the weights on both sides....douche gets back under the bar and stands back up again but this time he just leaves the gym, leaving the weights on the bar and without even attempting the lift once

Epic.

I would say the folk at my gym are a fairly decent bunch.

But i really dislike anyone who leaves a pool of sweat on a bench of machine, that is my main pet hate.

And it does irk me, when people throw/slam weights, or leave them lying around. That's just lazy.

But the ones that pose in the mirror crack me up, as i make a point of standing behind them looking suitably hench.

They really don't like it lol.

There are a few db's at my gym who are not that big or cut, but will load down a machine with all kinds of weight, then using horrible form and often dangerous technique will do a rep or two and quit, and of course leave the weight on the bar/machine.

Got one guy who used to do this with a ton of weight on bench, then I only ever saw him doing back, and now I only ever see him half assing legs. I guess he doesn't realize you gotta regularly work all muscles not just one group for months at a time.

So this one time i was doing DB chest press started with worm up set then moved onto 60Kg (130LBs) ish did the first set of 7 and got the weight onto my knees then went for my 2nd set at 60kgs got to 7 tried to get the dumb bells onto my knees could'nt do it so dropped them onto the rubber mats. Next thing i know iv got some 18 year old guy who must of bin about 150-160 pounds MAX come up and tell me how dangerous that is (thought he was talking about like ripping my shoulder or something) then starts banging how he's going to tell the owner how i throw them on the ground blah blah blah. I'm really go friend with the owner, so i told the kid this is what was going to happen he gets the f**k out of my face walks away or i will smash him with said dumb bell. he mutted under his breath "id like to see you try" i just laughed and said "look some day you might be able to be a ****ing cool and as big as me till then shut your mouth you couldnt even pick it up" lol turns out he couldnt :P thats my story of gym fail :)

If he only did it once I don't see a big deal. He said he couldn't get it to his knees so it was probably a better alternative than snapping his shoulders up.

I've had to put up with such retards before. This one asian guy, probably 5'9 140lbs, was complaining about some others and I deadlifting 500-600lbs and the sound it made when we lowered the bar. We had to put him in his place and told him to go to the ****ing library if he wanted to mediate. He left with tears in his eyes shouting about how he's gonna tell the gym owner about us. Little did he know we're buddies with the manager, so when he complained to him the manager suggested he look for a different gym. Then when my friends and I were leaving, the manager called us out from down the hallway, saying "guess what happened today?" I was like "did some kid come complaining to you about us?" And we all started laughing about this guy.

Saw a new one the other night. A guy who wanted to dance between sets.

Nothing makes me want to do 'the robot' like hammer curls. I should introduce him to "Robocop".

Every weekday, at around 9 or 10 PM at my gym in Edinburgh, I get subjected to the biggest wanker ever to lift a weight. His coming is usually heralded by the jingling of the various rhinestone/bead necklaces and bracelets, of which he seems to have an infinite amount. This guy gurns like a safari park chimp and literally dances his way from machine to machine, wearing a double xs under armor vest and sweating profusely. He'll go up to a machine (no freeweights) stick the pin in the max position, do a few sets of one or two (between which he dances) and then go and change his vest to an identical one of a different colour. It's more than a little off-putting to have this bell end whizzing around the gym like some sort of manic podium dancer, smirking to himself.

While I agree that sometimes dropping weights is necessary i do not agree that the "I'm bigger and stronger than you so therefore I am better and you are a piece of garbage" mentality that his post was full of. Just my opinion though.

I wish things like this happened at my gym but all I get our a bunch of cool bros who are all willing to help out and give advice :(

Well I guess that's what I am when I think people shouldn't use their strengths to make other people feel worse about themselves. Maybe that's just me though.....

I think you should re-read it. In the story, the dude is working his ass doing DB benches. Suddenly, he's suspending 130lbs on one arm in the air trying to put it back on his knee, and since he's failing to do so he drops it. Suddenly, some dickhead who has no idea what he's talking about approaches him and starts bitching about him dropping the weight and threatens to go tell the manager that he dropped weight.

A) this kid has no idea what benching 130lb dumbbells entails so should properly shut his mouth
B) what is it to him? he should mind his own business. Those who don't mind their own business are the real douchebags

Perhaps you should reread. He said the kid was saying that dropping that much weight is dangerous aand he could hurt his shoulder. He then proceeded to tell him to f*** off because he can't lift a 130 lb dumbbell.

Now the kid talking about complaining to the manager is one thing but to play the I'm friends with the manager and you are a scrawny little kid card is kind of a dbag move. That's just how I look at it though.

I guess the poster left a little bit too much to interpretation. The way I read it, he THOUGHT the kid approached him telling him how dangerous doing that was and was going to talk about the potential for pulling your pec or delt muscle, but INSTEAD was concerned about the dumbbell, loudness, etc. Plus there's still the part about complaining to the manager, as you said. Wtf?

The complaining was him being whiny, maybe because of something he said to the kid and he got all butt hurt about it or he could just be a whiny kid so its hard to tell. But as you said it could be misinterpretation but it kinda seemed like the poster was trying to come in here hoping we would suck his balls when he told us about how he told off some kid at his gym....

No, no...he THOUGHT the kid was warning him about his shoulder. Then the kid said he was going to tattle to the owner, and he realized that the "danger" wasn't referring to his shoulder at all, just the act of dropping the DBs.

Ditching DBs at the point of failure, especially at that weight, is completely acceptable. The real reason that kid should have held his mouth is because he probably has no idea what it's like to be in that situation. It's like being a famous composer, and having some kid's song-writer come and tell you that your latest symphony can't use pizzicato on the strings because he doesn't find it appealing enough. If you have no idea what you're talking about or dealing with, staying quiet is a better idea.

But I'll agree that the whole bad-talking "I'll wipe your face on this floor" mentality was uncalled for.

Being 18 isn't really a kid. At that time u see big dudes throwing up mad weight. Isn't that the point where you say to yourself "hey, he's a big mofo he obviously knows what he's doing I'll leve him alone?" no. Some piss pot comes up to you and tells you what to do and what not to do? And who is that big of a pus*y to threaten telling a Hm manager?

Agreed.

That reminds me of a time when some guy gave me crap about military pressing 135 to chest, he said that was bad for my shoulders. Then I had to save him about a minute later when he was about to snap his back with 1 plate squats..... Yeah I was laughing my ass off when he was safe.

Texting is annoying but being on the phone is a death penalty worthy offense.

Can't stand people who are texting on their phones, even more of a pain when they are sitting on the piece of equipment you need.

How bout when u got kids talkin bout how they got a bottle of sd and got steroid like gains but are still natty cuz they didn't pin. Then they don't know what pct stands for. Yea happened yesterday between and black guy and a white kid with a nutrishop shirt on. Wanted to face palm with a dumbell

Or people walking up to you when you are the biggest guy at the gym at the moment and asking you where you get gear...... Honestly best idea ever ask a stranger about illegal drugs.

I have a jump rope douchebag at my gym. He gets right in front of the mirrors, and starts jumping rope for like an hour. No doubt he can jump a mean rope. But he gets all super intense. Starts doing little tricks. You can tell he thinks he is super-duper cool. LOL.

Yup. Up to 170 now but its hard to do a true bulk when you run 5 miles every morning. Any other comments you wanna add?

I will add. What are your macros? You should be able to bulk at any activity level as long as you are getting enough sleep. Just eat more real food (not processed). Sometimes eating can feel like a chore but the results are worth it.
Not the lip you were expecting huh?

Also YOU CAN DOIT!!!!!!!!

I fail to understand how that makes him a dbag. Couldn't be any more of a dbag than other people that go to the gym and do cardio....

I eat at 3600 currently. 210 protein, 120 fat, and 400 carbs. I add more food as my gains stall but I don't sleep enough. I sleep all I can but I work a lot so 5 or 6 hours is about all I can get most days.

I know eating is a chore. I've been doing this for years and have gained 50 or so pounds since I started. I did lose a lot of my gains at OSUT though but have been making up for it since I got to my unit.

My only problem with this is that people have a skewed view of what a dbag is. For most people in here being a dbag amounts to not being as strong as they are and using equipment they want without a lot of weight or perfect form. Everyone has to start somewhere so why try to chase people that are trying to get better even if they don't know everything about this lifestyle. Occasionally there are posts that are legitimately douchey things but most of the time they aren't.

I think the d-bag Aussie was talking about is mostly just the act of walking up to some one and saying you are doing it wrong, not size. I have noticed that at the gyms I have been most of the bigger guys are rather approachable and polite. Meanwhile alot of the guys who are rather small but lean are rather judgmental and ****y.

These are just observations at the gyms I have been to. Not saying this is a rule but it is what I have experienced.

My definition of gym d-bag is someone who is distracting, annoying, judging, too eager to voice their opinion when it is not wanted and ones who stop me from getting my workout done.

That could be true. I may have interpreted the post wrong. It didn't sound like that when I read it but I'm not perfect so.....

I am personally guilty of this as well. When someone offends you, you are bound to point out their flaws. It isnt that he thinks smaller dudes are d-bags its that this one was.

I still read it and it looks like he said that dude was trying to tell him that's dangerous and he could get hurt but there are a lot of people here reading it differently so.

Look Jim2542 i may of worded my post alittle wrong but people having ago at me about how dropping the dumb bells after liftting that much alone without a spotter i know it was kinda stupid but what can you do when your friends are all busy and i didnt think anyone at my gym could give me a had that day. i dont get the point of having ago me because i can lift. an you may say what i said about me being bigger ect was wrong well i wouldnt have to say that if a guy that looks like he's never lifted in his life comes and tells me how to do it!

Oh good you're back. So was the kid telling you that dropping it was dangerous or was he telling you that it was against the rules. Because that's what we've been trying to figure out for awhile on here.

I understand that dropping weights is necessary sometimes. Especially if you work to failure like most lifters do. But that's not the point I'm trying to make.

The guy was a d*ck head simple as that telling me how to lift the guy didnt look like he ever lifted in his life! I'm not a hater i always help guys out when they need it at gym when they need it.

I'm a really nice guy mate this little dip sh*t was just a wanna be who spends more time looking at how "big" his arm are then lifting!

Simple as that

So I take that to mean he was saying it was dangerous to drop the weight. Because as a general rule it is. In that particular instance it was probably.better for you to dump weight but that's no reason to get mad if someone points it out and isn't able to lift it. Even if he should've minded his own business because obviously whatever you are doing is working for you but I don't really see that making him a dbag.

Ok let me make this simple for you to understand.

The guy come from the other side of gym and tell me off (even though i pretty much live at my gym) for doing something that is safer then ripping my arm off and then gets arkie at me and says he's going to tell on me. So what should i do sit there and take this **** heads **** or ****ing say something? Im one of the nicest guys around i even have bin told by many "your a alround nice guy" and "your a big teddy" i dont like getting mad but some people need to get it into there heads that they are not the best and shouldnt be getting mad at some in the gym.

SIMPLE AS THAT!

Surely this is flogging a dead horse by now? People have spent the last few pages haranguing this guy for telling some little guy who came up to him and told him off for something that could or could not have been dangerous to f off. Its open to interpretation. I'm sure most of the guys I consider dbags at the gym could probably pick something about me that pisses them off too. But at the end of the day, you can't really get the full story from a paragraph of text, so lets all move on lol. Here is an emoticon of a banana:
