Neocons dominate both parties at the highest levels. We spend more than the rest of the world combined even though strategically we are better off than almost every other country and have almost no threat of some sort of invasion.
While Americans continue to say their top concerns are Inflation and the U.S. Economy… the House just passed an $850 BILLION NDAA for 2023, which is somehow $37 BILLION more than Biden requested.

I’ve also read some queer theory papers and some of the authors like to do things like put child porn in scare quotes. I actually had to stop reading.
Pioneers in post-modern philosophy Foucault and Derrida also petitioned age of consent laws.
Then you read less creepy leftists, but there is still this strong will that gives me the image of them wanting to have orgies as part of their philosophy. For example Herbert Marcuse on I believe the essay on liberation. Even Emma Goldman had similar things.
Here is the part with nuance that gets me in trouble with everyone usually. I believe these are sick people, but some post-modernists observations and even some of Emma Goldman and Marcuse observations are very interesting. Overall I reject the bulk of their work.

Earlier journalist Ostap Yarysh tweeted that the U.S. House of Representatives had passed a $840 billion defense policy bill.
According to the journalist, part of this amount should go to training Ukrainian pilots.

Yep, you're not wrong. Plus we are in our winter (southern hemisphere problems), so that'll likely flip in the coming months.
Our hospitals are overwhelmed, nurses are overworked and underpaid and yet still people refuse to stay home when sick.
It's one of those things where the mindset of "if I can't see it or am not impacted by it then it doesn't exist" is VERY real here.
I don't think COVID is that dangerous, but it's the fact that a lot of people are going to the hospital for care that is the problem. Even if they're not dying in huge numbers, it's the fact that we have no beds available. I have friends in Auckland who are nurses (6 close friends) who I catch up with frequently who say the hospitals are paying triple time (unheard of) for overtime because nurse shortages are real and patients numbers are at record highs.

Apparently, yes. Majority are unvaccinated.
Our booster uptake (called 3rd shot in the graph) is pretty low (around 50%) and double vaxxed is around 80%.
I went to a pretty rough part of town yesterday, and the amount of people walking around coughing and looking sick was unreal lol. Some people dgaf anymore

I think also compared to the US with as hard as they shut down there than here there is far less already acquired natural immunity to this type of virus, so more of the long term effects of shutdowns are potentially kicking in there if your opening back up. This is just broscience on my part, just thinking off the top of my head but it makes sense to me.
And with the new strain about to take over, we dunno if everyone was now mandated a shot if it would reduce hospitalization rates or not....maybe and probably, but I dunno.
They were actually going to have the first ever mandated vax mandates in Beijing a couple weeks ago and then within a few days took a sudden turn on that when that new strain became a thing because they thing their vax (their own China vax) may not be good for it.

Well in order to acquire immunity you have to be exposed to the virus, which is exactly what vaccines do.
Otherwise the other way is to get sick.
But with viruses, mutations are so frequent that acquired immunity from one strain doesn't necessarily transfer to another unless they are similar enough.
The problem is is that there's no way of knowing how sick any specific person will get from COVID. For some who are adequately rested and have low stress levels may bounce back relatively quickly. The same people could also be exposed to a greater initial viral load which makes them really unwell. Or people who have high levels of stress and poor rest, even small loads can overwhelm their natural capability.
There are so many individual factors that from one person to the next it could be a vastly different response.
In winter, our bodies are typically more likely to get overwhelmed vs Summer. It's so so dependent.
I'm all for people choosing whether to get the vaccine or not, but the fact that the unvaccinated are the ones overwhelming our hospitals is a problem

What would also help, as for over 2 years people had plenty of time to make lifestyle changes, get fit, stop drinking especially smoking but nooooooooo…..party on as usual and let’s not even spend energy talking to the public about that.
After all that went down and the obvious that most hospitalizations are overweight and/or unhealthy people that some would get a hint. I’m not including elders or those with health conditions out of one’s control of course.

Assange faces up to 175 years in prison for exposing US war crimes by publishing documents he received from whistleblower and former Army soldier Chelsea Manning. Lopez Obrador said earlier this month that if Assange is sentenced to life in prison, there should be a campaign to dismantle the statue of liberty.

I wish I could share a gif here but I came across a side by side of Putin meeting the Saudi’s and Biden. The difference in greeting seems to me to show the Saudis are much more on board with Putin. How we feel about any of the three governments involved is totally irrelevant. The interest comes from the fact America’s answer to inflation is to depend on the Saudis.

The fires looked crazy. Summer in the northeast of America has just been kinda normal so far. Good amount of rain but that’s it. Makes yard work tough but nothing bad like those fires.
