I'm surprised Trump is still president tbh.

The US, Russia and Saudi Arabia are against climate change proposals and deny it completely because of how invested they are in oil and coal.

There's simply no other reason when 99% of climate scientists are in agreement that we are digging up and pumping more carbon into the air than can be diffused back into the ground.

It's actually crazy and the data is staggering.

There's a fairly large population of people here in the US that openly think scientists and physicians constantly lie to them and are out to poison them for a profit. Those same people sell expensive scented oils to their friends on Facebook while they talk about how horrible vaccinations are or the secret cure to cancer that the government has locked away somewhere. The media hasn't done us any favors either over the years by misreporting scientific data, over-hyping findings, and using scare tactics to sell headlines. We're dealing with people who say things like "well it seems colder this winter than the last one, so I guess global warming doesn't exist." People are believing youtube videos made by complete strangers over scientists presenting solid data. So from that angle it doesn't surprise me that Trump easily gets votes while pushing oil and coal, even from the communities that oil and coal has destroyed. I'm surprised that he's still sticking with it simply from how annoying the job has to be.

The movement of away from evidence based practices is staggering.

It's unreal to think that we have removed ourselves so much from the difficulties of staying alive only 100+ years ago, that people are actually wanting us to go back to those times, even if unknowingly.

The anti vax movement is profoundly stupid and quite literally not founded in evidence, despite the notion they think it is.

We have got to a point where we know so much that it is has actually become a burden. Noone trusts science anymore.

The problem is, people respect 'celebrity' over substance for 'facts'. Celebrity spokesperson have been engaging people for years, so much that social media has increased their petency in message 100x instead of people validating what they are told.

On top of this, we have people like Trump who know if you beat a message into someone, they believe more and more their bull-sh!t, and think less and less for themselves. Add in their own prejudices and desire to believe a message and you have the makings for a backwards society.

What do you do? That is the question

do climate scientists have anything to do with daily weather forecasts?


the weather forecast here has been way off for the last week, they can't even get wind direction right.

2 completely different fields.

Weather forecasts are computer simulated predictions through meteorology - but it is just an educated prediction based on current atmospheric conditions and atmospheric preasures and predicting future conditions based on those conditions.

Climate science has nothing to do with the forecast

Haha, can understand that. The difference here is that climate science is measuring what is happening right now and using past occurences to predict future concerns. While the future concerns may not be as accurate in terms of timeline, it's pretty well established what will happen once we pump too much carbon into the atmosphere.

Of course, natural cycles of cooling and warming regularly occur on earth, however it is very clear that we are rapidly increasing the warming cycle, increasing the ferocity of storms, and causing extreme weather events like colder winters and warmer summers.

it is also true the several nations have been manipulating weather[or at least attempting to]. isn't it possible that this manipulation is playing a major role in extreme weather events?

for example during the Olympics the Chinese air quality was pitiful, so before running of the marathon they seeded clouds to make it rain to clean the air...I am sure there are many more times that manipulation has occurred, this is just one that is known of-most are probably secret projects, imo.

The problems we have now are largely in part due to excessive livestock farming, factories, oil and coal.

As we build up our atmosphere with carbon, heat cannot escape back into space as readily because it is readily trapped in by carbon and water vapor.

As the climate warms, more clouds are produced which contributes to the effect.

Venus superheated once plate tectonics stopped, which prevented carbon from burying deep in the planet - like what happens on earth. From there, carbon built up, trapped in heat which eventually boiled up all the water that was on venus and created an immensely inhospitable environment.

We are very very slowly replicating what happened on venus here on earth. We are removing from the earth far more carbon than what is being put back in, which is slowly superheating the planet. Heck, the issues with the clouds are also causing issues for planes as well.

Nothing is impossible, but so far the data points to highly improbable. Papers like this one look at the affect of cloud seeding on adjacent areas and if it rains less there (this paper found that it doesn't make a difference) Invalid Link Removed. The only sites that I've seen questions about cloud seeding and climate change are conspiracy sites since cloud seeding is changing the weather, not the climate. It's also not secret and we do it here in the US. Farmers use it in droughts, ski resorts use it, airports use it for fog. It's used more than I think people realize.

another good post...yes, I am aware that it is no secret that farmers, ski resorts and such use weather manipulation...the secret part is the weaponization of weather that I've only heard rumors of---one use of weaponizing weather I am aware of is way back in 60's to use rain to wash out supply tunnels used by viet cong. at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy nut I think it is feasible for the government to cause a earthquake or tsunami

We used to get earthquakes quite a bit in Dallas when I first moved down there due to fracking, although the fracking companies deny they were causing it and a study has shown they were indeed causing it. I don't have enough faith in the government to believe they could pull something like that off, plus it's a lot of work and time, which equals witnesses. Government tactics would be more likely to sneak in or drop a bomb on the surface and claim it was an earthquake, rather than actually causing one. Or our current administration can simply say, "remember that earthquake caused by all the liberals? Only re-electing us can stop that from happening again" and a large population would believe it.

Possibly, but it would be incredibly hard to create one of significant magnitude without people noticing.

A nuclear explosion could trigger an earthquake, but it would need to be very near the explosion - in the realm of 50km or thereabouts. It wouldn't have nearly the same impact or ferocity that is induced by tectonic plates given the locality.

Most earthquakes are at 50km beneath the surface. The deepest man has ever dug is 12km, and that took 20 years to achieve.

Besides that, I have no doubt the tech is there to make the climate whatever they want no matter how much cats fart. They dont give a damn, its all about taxes, power and control.

have you ever noticed how disasters make people unite around the government and make people believe they are reliant on government to take care of their needs? I have noted that at least from my perspective the government gets an odd sort of boost when disasters happen--your thoughts?

Like a hurricane hitting Puerto Rico? How did that work out for the Trump administration lol. Yes, sometimes the government gets a boost because the people often look to them for help. That's where the evidence and correlations end. That does not mean the government is causing the disasters. My **** gets hard when I put my hand on it; that doesn't mean there is a conspiracy by my **** to trick my hand into going there.

That's because people need to look to others when they feel helpless. It's a natural human instinct.

That doesn't mean anything more. Remember: devastating natural disasters occur all around the world. Not just in the US. And not just over inhabited land.

They're still getting paid. Coast Guard wasn't because their money comes from homeland, but it looks like they're going to make an exception for December. They may be SOL for January and however long this goes on for.

I believe they're still subject to ucmj for legal issues, but get their money from homeland and are under that. If war breaks out, they can be transferred over to the navy though.
