Teachers leaving the profession are replaced. In my area, they close and consolidate schools because they cost too much and the state has to cut back, not because they aren't enough teachers to go around. Look at the administration employees in many larger school districts, some have as many administrators as teachers. There's no need for that, and that money should be going to teachers, and eliminating the "middle management" and many of the paper pushers.
