So do we put a freeze on all new gov spending until we pay off the debt? On the one hand I agree we need to do something about the debt/deficit but it becomes a bit of a straw man.

Absolutely not, but there is ALOT we can cut without cutting stuff like public education, SS, medicare, infrastructure, etc....

I would simply start overnight by cutting military spending by 70%-80% or more, ending all these wars and foreign interventions, and shutting down most (Id think that one through, but most yes WWII ended a long time ago! LOL) of the global military bases and bringing everybody home and taking it from there. Id use that to both help Americans starting with our vets and reduce the deficit.

Speaking of clean air, Im about to drop 18k and throw some solar slab on my roof which cuts down a nice chunk after tax credits. Have an appointment tomorrow for a solar study on my roof. Also, I drive a Prius which gets 52mpg.

Looks like it's a combination of public and private money as well as fining polluters.

I'd cut SS and medicare as well. Taxes should go to infrastructure and that's it. Agree with the military cuts, but would also cut care after 5 or 10 years post-discharge. If you have a legitimate injury from battle, then you're covered. But crap like my ex father-in-law who got his diabetes covered because it was supposedly caused by agent orange from Vietnam, is complete BS. He had diabetes because he never took care of himself and ate like a pig, yet we have to pay for it. Welfare on all levels needs to end.

I definitely want to cut SS and medicare, just not overnight. Just needs to be done right and people who spend their lives paying into it at least should be compensated in some form. Military "defense" we can just stop the bs and cut the crap right away.

There's no way to make the cut fair, so might as well cut it immediately. Hold a lottery for the remaining amount and the prize for everybody else is they no longer have to pay into it.

Is it your contention that the executives at Gilette and NFL players who kneel during the anthem are breaking the law in doing those things? Because those are the people you said are traitors to democracy in the post I responded to.

No, Jim is pointing out that you are making claims that other Americans are unAmerican "traitors to democracy" for the crime of disagreeing with you (a point I can't help but notice you were eager to ignore entirely; not that I can blame you for not wanting to own that hypocrisy!), and that some of those people have actually risked life and limb in service of that democracy, while your response to that inquiry makes quite clear that you have made no such commitment.

That's an easy answer, the people who want to alter our constitution and take away our rights in order to control others. I also include anybody who sides with or makes excuses for those people. And just bc somebody serves doesn't mean they can't end up being a traitor to our country.

Im an american, i want what is best for our citizens as a whole, which means preventing mass immigration that will drain the welfare system for one. Build that wall ! Are people traitors for disagreeing with me? No, it just happens to also be true quite often.
