Police in the Swedish city of Malmö made an urgent plea for locals to assist them in solving scores of serious crimes, including dozens of attempted killings, murders, beatings, rapes and other offenses as police struggle to grapple with a spike in violence.

In an Invalid Link Removed, Malmö police chief Stefan Sinteus on Friday encouraged citizens to provide testimonies in a hope that they might help police to find perpetrators in an array of otherwise stalled investigations.

“I can assure you that the police in Malmö are doing everything we can for suspected perpetrators to be held accountable. But we cannot do it on our own. We depend on you, and your witness statements, to solve these violent crimes. Therefore I appeal now to you: Help us,” Sinteus wrote.

The letter followed reports that potential witnesses in the murder of a 16-year-old Iraqi boy, Ahmed Obaid, murdered in the city’s Rosengard district on January 14, were reluctant to provide any accounts after racist threats directed at his former schoolmates were posted under the photo of his dead body.

In his open letter, Sinteus specifically mentioned Obaid’s murder and an attempted murder of another teenager on Saturday, pledging to deploy all necessary means to push forward both investigations.

To help Malmö police to tackle what Sinteus described as “an upward spiral [of violence] of large dimensions,” reinforcements from the National Operations Department (NOA) were sent to Malmo last week and the extra police officers are expected to reach the city next week, he wrote. A total of 130 police staff are currently working exclusively on investigation of serious offenses.

“Malmö police are currently investigating 11 murders and 80 attempted murders. Add to that other crimes of violence, beatings, rapes, thefts and frauds,” Senteus said, admitting his department is “extremely strained” by a lack of staff.

It is not the first time that Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden and home to a large migrant population, has raised the alarm about the increasing wave of violence. In July last year, a spate of shootings, blasts and arsons that followed the sentencing of three men for complicity in the Christmas Eve bombing in Rosengard prompted the local police force to appeal to their colleagues at a national level for “shared expertise.”

At the time, Lars Förstell, a spokesperson for the city’s police told RT that some 30 to 40 people with criminal backgrounds have been involved in gang-related and ethnic crimes linked to drug trafficking and other illegal operations.

“It’s more of a business-like conflict,” he said.

In September, four people were injured in shooting and a car chase.

The already uneasy situation with crime, believed to be aggravated by an inflow of undocumented asylum seekers, prompted Swedish authorities to introduce so-called no-go zones, the number of which rose to 55 in September.

In case of Obaid, however, the police do not consider his death to be a result of gang violence, as the boy did not have any criminal record and was unknown to police.

First, Jim Gaffigan is hilarious. He has a funny "Mr. Universe" skit too.

Second, you completely ignored my previous points. Jesus is encouraging people to VOLUNTARILY give their possessions to the poor, not pushing for the government or religious establishment to establish social programs funded by taxation enforced under the threat of imprisonment. Jesus didn't force people to do things at all.

I didn't ignore it. Doesn't the Church tax it's members enough to help others? Isn't that forcing people in a subtle way to help others? 10% of your income is the norm. So, you're saying, churches should not solicit money because it's not what Jesus would have wanted, right? I agree. The Vatican doesn't need it. Let's not delve too deep into them either.

We may find a few WWII references they'd prefer were not dug up.

I think Churches should be taxed if they don't behave like one.

Churches don't tax their members, at least not any that I've been to. They encourage you to give 10% of your income, but never force you, and shouldn't even judge you or get on your case if you don't, because that's not what Jesus was all about. Plenty of churches don't behave like they should, and plenty of Christians don't act like Christians should, but that's a separate issue. You can't say that something is consistent with the teachings of Jesus simply because the Church, or part of the Church, does it. The Church, and there are so many types now, have added/changed/removed things for a long time. Also, Jesus told people to give to the poor, not for them to give to him or the government so he can distribute it to the poor.

I went the Churches when I was a kid...nobody ever forced me or my family to give out money. They took donations, whatever you can give but first hand experience I always saw them mostly as good kind hearted people and many of them voluntarily do good things for people. I did leave simply because I dont believe in the bible in a respectful way,

Of course there is corruptions in all sects of life, including all religions....most places simply need money to maintain things and do things, its just a fact of life.

Oh, you speak definitively for Jesus now? If Jesus didn't demand taxation to fund social programs, I don't recall him calling for taxes at all, when he was here before, why would he suddenly do it now? It's a Christian thing to help the poor and donate to charity, but it's not, in my opinion anyway, a Christian thing to tell someone else that they have to give me (or the government) money so I can use it to help the poor, and that I'll throw them in jail if they don't.

Anyway, I agree that we can drop the subject of Jesus now and get back to politics, not what we think Jesus would do in the political realm today (he wasn't a politician).

Your just stereotyping.....Ron Paul is a Christian and he only support no income tax...and there are alot of libertarians who are christian and support no tax. Alot of Christians actually do believe its a self voluntary obligation to help those in need and not be Robin Hood.

I saw that a couple times a long time ago, all of them. Their comparisons of buddhism and the other religious do have some inaccuracies though.

Did you see these things in person? We did and we did something about it. Just like I intend to do every day for the rest of my life, and I'm teaching my son the same.

I assure you that far more hate crimes have occurred against Muslims than Trump supporters.

Are you saying it's OK to do this to Muslims because of those things?

The problem I have is the hypocrshyt of most of the protestors...most if not all would have not problem getting Obama in for a 3rd time knowingly he will commit mass murder and genocide of Muslims with his love drones and arming of his peace keepers Aka terrorists groups.

That's a different issue...my primary issue is the hypocrisy of the protestors who wouldn't have a problem if Obama or Hitlery did the same thing. They have no moral integrity.

No, there's nothing wrong with peacefully protesting Trump, Obama, Bush, Hillary, etc, but there is something wrong with destroying other peoples' property and being violent. Ironically, nonsensical violent protests against Trump will only serve to set the stage for him, and the government in general, to have more power and authority. These morons also make it easy for the other side to brush off all anti-Trump protests and complaints by saying "look at these clowns." Yes, some of them are clowns, but there are people peacefully protesting/complaining, they just often don't make the news or get as much attention, so the violent minority gives the majority a bad name, just like the Westboro Baptist Church giving Christians a bad name, and radical extremists giving Muslims a bad name. The thing is, the peaceful, logical anti-Trump people need to condemn the violent idiots who claim to have the same goals and beliefs as them, but aren't taken seriously and only serve to de-legitimize the very message(s) they think they stand for.

Maybe I just haven't found it yet.
