Destroyed Back Doing Overhead Press

So last night I was hitting shoulders. All was going well until I did my second exercise, the overhead press. I did 95lbs for like 8-10 reps, no problem. My second set I did 115lbs and during my 2nd rep I felt my back pop like 10 times all at once and it made a crackling/crunching sound. At first, it kind of felt relieving, so I thought I popped it. I finished my workout, lifting lighter as the pain gradually set on.
Now it's the next day and my back/lower neck are in so much ****ing pain, it's almost unbearable.

I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow, but have any of y'all had this happen? Any advice about taking care of an injury while on cycle?

That’s nuts man. I’ve never heard of that happening to anyone. Were you doing behind the neck presses?

Sounds like ya gave yaself a bad manip. Honestly expect tightness and pain for a bit. It’s your body trying to protect itself. Honestly an orthopedic specialist would be my recommendation but there’s a great chance you can ride it out and be fine.

NSAIDs and Ice will be your savior.

Wouldn't bother with a chiro mate most are just money grabbers. Some of those manipulations and cracking they do stop your injury healing so you think you need to keep going back to them as it never gets better. Trust me, I've spent a small fortune on them trying to sort out my SI joint pain. You're better going to a physical therapist.

There are a lot of bad chiropractors out there and I spent years in pain being a skeptic, but there are also some great ones as well. A physical therapist is a great option too.

jesus, that sounds horrible. How long did it take to fully heal?
2 weeks lying down on muscle relaxants then about 6 months slowly building weight back up before I had zero pain. In the beginning of training I experienced really sharp burning pain but found that pushing into this pain really facilitated the healing process.

We should NOT lift anything over our heads. I wish we could get this out to everyone. We are prone to injury at the neck and the lower back because of the curve or natural lordosis. I blew my left trap 16 years ago with some 60lb dumbells. A pop, pain, and warmth.

MRI turned up what xrays couldnt. C5 herniated, T1 herniated, left sided spinal stenosis, torn left trap.

Its been extremely limiting painful and at times downright crippling. Specialists say they dont want to operate till it gets worse.

How do you do shoulder workouts then.

The pain specialist and physical therapist said to never lift anything over shoulder height. Its probable that Ill need an operation before i get much older. Id hate to see others with injuries like this or worse.

All these years of pain. What I would not give to have never injured myself.

Humans were built to lift things over our heads and have been doing it since the very beginning of our existence. Sorry about your experience but injuries happen. I’ve seen more injuries happen to people while lifting things ff the ground (deadlifts) or squatting. Regardless if you lift weights seriously it’s a risk we all take. People usually get injured when they ego lift, improper form etc.

Sounds like you didn't have enough thoracic mobility which made you excessively arch your back. Google "squat university overhead mobility" and youll find a few articles that explain how to test and improve thoracic mobility. You can work on those once you heal up

Were you overly hyperextending your lower back? I've found for me it is really important to keep my glutes tight so my lower back doesn't feel too much pressure

Try adding some movements from the kneeling position. Worked wonders for my posture and my glute activation.

Chiropractors are not doctors. They are only slightly better than voodoo witches imho.

You might switch to sitting military press. That will keep you from arching your back.
