Dave's Newest bulk into cut for show. AAS, SLIN and GH

I been setting some off-cycle PR's lately and training hard. Squat 480 without wraps, 287 bench (missed 303) & pulled 562 early October in comp, and just busting ass since, and I'm sitting at 220 w/ prob 20% bf if I had to take a poorly educated guess. Ain't nothing pretty to look at, but I'm getting stronger and avoiding injury so I'll take it!

Nice Hyde. Impressive!

Trying to hit your 590 at some point! Worked up through 455 thursday night on squat to see where I'm at on a whim; it was a ****ty grinder but that's my best squat ever easily off cycle. With some more work and a cycle peaking for a meet 500 without wraps should be in the bag.

Hopefully far surpass me! Never enough, you know how it goes.

500 is a pretty good lift though. I'll be tickled pink for a 450 squat after my bulk...

Until you hang out with guys who squat 6-650 in wraps lol. You'll get it man - keep grinding and always believe you can be stronger.

The December 11th article Your Passion is Their Pain is pretty great.

Exactly. My roommate in college was probably one of the top 10 strongest power lifters in the country at a certain point.

A 900lb squat in a suit will make you feel like whatever you're squatting is dog ****. Lol

Yup. Started sumo dead lifting, dead lift shot up 30lbs... I like sumo a lot :].

Keep pounding your technique on it, and it'll probably keep climbing. Don't forget how to pull conventional in case you ever need to switch back, but generally if you switch and you're stronger that's a good sign it's for you.

I'd probably still do most of your pulling conventional. The conventional DL will really carryover to the sumo, especially since you're hitting heavy squats too (bug squats = big sumos)

Plus doing squats and sumo pulling will tear your hips up so doing the pulls conventional during off season training will help save some wear and tear.

I go wide on squats to, I have impeccable hip flexibility. Not really feeling any pain from sumo's. Just switching it up. Plus my conventional form is wider than normal, feet and hand placement which dips my hips lower to get more leg drive anyway :/

Its not an acute thing usually, but doing wide squatting and sumo pulling will usually lead to hip issues when done regularly. Especially if you're really externally rotating at the hips to get close to the bar for your sumos (which you should be doing).

Just something to consider to keep the hips healthy and pain free.

I just read through the first 10 pages or so... Subbed like a MF is he ever comes back... Best log ever right here lol

To join you have to post a noodz. Also, you'll want to read every page to enjoy mad laughs, plenty of hotties, and Daves war stories are epic!!

Mkay thanks Jim :]. When I do sumos should I take a break from squats or go close stance?

I feel like close stance would be better as an assistance movement for the sumo's for the quad strength.

I don't know what you're doing for training, program wise, though. I typically do an "off season" which has me at a higher volume and I don't do the competition lifts as often during it and instead focus on getting stronger and building more muscle. Then for my meet prep cycles the volume steadily decreases and the intensity steadily increases and I focus 100% on competition lifts.

So for me, I would probably do 75% of my off season deadlifting either conventional or some other variation and then do the entire meet prep cycle sumo to hammer down the technique and make sure the strength I built carries over.

Can't go wrong here. Another option if it's "off-season" is using the safety squat bar if you have access to one with a mod/narrow stance. This is really gonna work the back and quads, much like a conventional pull. Or even just an Oly, atg high-bar squat with a moderate stance. But I've been incorporating those in and out of prep for the last 6 months, to awesome effect. Nobody ever needed less quad size or power out of the hole.

Except Dave -Dave has some b!tchin' quads :biglaugh:

Well Bro's just want to ask for some prayers. My mom had a heart attack this morning.

She's a soldier so she will get through this, but a heart attack at 52 is scary shiz.

Hope she's ok man! That's far too young man I hope she pulls through!

Thanks fellas she's out of the woods and should be ok. They put a splint in one of her arteries.

Doc said it was directly related to her smoking....

Happy holidays to you boys.

Wow man, heart attacks are scary! Glad your mom is doing better! People think that lung cancer is a big concern while smoking, but heart disease is the real killer!

Best to your mom buddy

HEY MUTHER FUKERS!!! Happy New Years. I'm back at it again. Hardwork I got your text man. Glad your mom is good. My official off season has begun. I had to move states, life got busy and this forum fell to the lower end if my priorities. So stay tuned I will be getting a thread up soon for my "return" haha

Ummm i invited myself to my own thread you d!ck. How you been Jim?

I've been OK, reinjured my back (disc herniation) at TSM in April and am just now getting back into it all again (last 3 months or so).

Lost something like 40#, sitting at 175 now and trying to gain it back a little leaner this time.
