DaPack..Fighting Age One Day at a Time

Was in wraps since I started powerlifting.
Yes. Join the Wrapped Side brother.

Pros:

Hoisting astronomical weight supported by your knees and inevitably massive quads and ass you will develop

Cons:

None I can think of because Bias

On a serious note, how did they feel for you?
Always used wraps up until the last 2 meets. Reason going raw for them was to get bench and deads state records since in wraps for my age already have the records at 181 and 198. Next age group the raw records will be challenging to get and there are no wraps state records so another reason switching to raw. Don't like give me records though will.probably set the baseline records for wraps at some point

I also just got a pair of Reebok Squat Shoes, super excited to try them out tomorrow. I went in last night for a test run and I had the same reaction as you, I'm used to squatting in shitty, torn up shoes.

Also as someone with terrible ankle mobility, it felt so good to squat in them. Don't know how it'll feel going heavier

My first ones were Reebok lifters, then I got some Gen 2 Reeboks, then I got some old school Ristos before Risto closed its business. I loved my Ristos so much I took them to the cobbler once or twice for repairs. The day I put my Reeboks on I added like 20lbs to my squat. But over the last 2 years I was so deadlift focused that I just wore flats most of the time. This year when I brought squats back in, I kept my flats on. At first it challenged my ankle mobility, largely I think due to a bike wreck in my teens when I broke my left ankle, and I never 100% rehabbed it because I didn't realize it was so bad. But I have had 3 or 4 squat PRs this year since shifting back to flats and focusing on squats more than deads.

Reason going raw for them was to get bench and deads state records since in wraps for my age already have the records at 181 and 198.

I always love reading that. I can't tell you how many times I've told people about your accomplishments. "I know someone who"....

For me with squats shoes are easier to hit the hole but at the cost of hip recruitment. Just never feel my hips engaging with squat shoes

Ah. I see, still a bit new to the forum, didn't know this. That's awesome. There's not alot of people using wraps these days, seems to be phasing out slowly.

my Reeboks on I added like 20lbs to my squat.
This is pretty crazy. That's a big jump. What do you think is the main reason for this jump for you?

I have been seeing it a little more often here. Raw is still way ahead of wraps but in the past there would only be a few of us but it is slowly changing

Gym I have been going to for squats only has one spot to do rack pulls so had to do off the floor. Rack pulls are scheduled on squats days but this seems to be working. Still getting my frequency in either way. Finally feels like I am over the hump on deads because in the past 465lbs would never have happened after squats and def not without running a peaking phase. Excited to see if I can hit 500lbs again. Decided doing 181lbs this meet and going to come in at the top of the weight class. Last meet was about experimenting with some water cut ideas so came in super under weight. Makes more sense to push the 165lb class, if I can make it, to the last meet in April since muscle lose with mostly likely happen to make weight. This gives me 16 weeks compared to 8 weeks.

Session #1
Squats;**Cerberus Sleeves
4 sets 3 reps 225lbs, 250lbs, 275lbs, 295lbs

2 sets 3 reps 365lbs, 375lbs**Pioneer Heavy
So after the last set with sleeves pulled the 10's off but forgot to pull the 25's and put the 45's on. Was thinking I was about to do 315lbs when I unracked it and was wondering what the heck happened to zap all my energy. After 1st rep realized and just finished the set. Thought about dropping down to the original plan of 315lbs for 1st set but I was there might as well do 375lbs and call it good after that.

Deads;
3 sets 3 reps 225lbs, 275lbs, 315lbs
4 sets 1 rep 365lbs, 405lbs, 440lbs, 475lbs

4 sets 9 reps

Hack Squats;
4 sets 9 reps

Leg Ext;
4 sets 9 reps

After today's deads decided for April meet not going make a run at 165lbs and an elite total. I would have to be at an extremely low body fat, loss muscle and probably cut 10+lbs of water. Finally made a break through with deads and taking a chance of losing it to make 165lbs is just not worth it to me. Still have more bodyfat to lose but the plan all was always to lose the fat and build into a solid 181lb class. Were my lifts are it is just not worth the chance that I go through everything to make 165lbs but have nothing left the day of the meet and fail to hit an elite total. So like I lead off the 1st meet will Feb meet will not be 100% effort to save everything for the April meet 8 weeks later. If something happens to be there for the taking, like 500lb dead, will do it but plan is to not push 100%. Side not is on the last dead my lockout was pretty hard to really need to work on rack pulls and if not available at the gym I was at today then do heavy rdl's.

To make an elite total would be really cool, but it will slow you down from getting stronger.

What do you need to total elite raw w/ wraps at 165 vs 181 in your age bracket?

165 is 1198 and 181 is 1289. Raw is 22lbs lighter for both. Just looks like not in the cards which is fine. My deads are at an all time high.

Been waiting for a session like this, horrible, and a little surprised it took this long. Was thinking overtraining/ over reaching would have kicked in a last week. Wednesday and Friday were extremely hard days so was expecting this going in. Next week a light/ de-load for deads and the following week will be squats.

Gym I was at had to move a slick, narrow bench into a rack were the weights like to spin on the bar. The way 315lbs move if I was at the better gym with actual powerlifting benches and could find a spotter probably would have attempted 325 or 330lbs.

Congrats on that deadlift PR! Also noticing it seems your bench has really taken off the past year

Open existence sucks then lol

It has. Key seems for me is doing some sort of pressing x3 with a heavy volume day. Sort of knew it already but things change over time so nice to know it still works.

Friday's are bonus days and with squats being singles this week decided to just get some bench in. Was at the gym with the bad bench setup and Friday's are my last workout of the week so really happy with the results. Going to be hard to PR my bench since the next jump is 313.5 to 319. Figured gym bench would have to be pushing 330 to 335 for it to happen. With 5 weeks out will slowly start get comp work in since been 6 weeks, last meet.

So woke up this day with a slight cough and the start of becoming sick so decided to get my main lifts done for the week. Which of a good thing because today, Monday, I am def sick and lifting is not going to happen. Hit all the numbers I wanted too and PRd my rack pulls for that height.

Nice lifting, and smart call! Stay up on your fluids and salt intake, and get your vitamin c & zinc in often brother ✊

Still coughing a little bit and getting over being sick so probably around 90% better. Last pull will be in 10 days, 17 days out, or in 13 days depending what kind of day it is. Last set was hard but probably had 490 to 495 in me today. Hit 475 twice in 20 days and never thought that would happen. Hoping last heavy will be 505+ and give me a PR before the meet. Needed the week off regardless of being sick since both knees and right elbow/ shoulder have been bothering me lately. Left knee is hurting a little but so far feel pretty good. Tomorrow is doubles on bench so will definitely see how the elbow/ shoulder feel.
