College Football 2008 season

i'm gonna try a different tactic..penn state is a "descent" team in a pisspoor conf. they wouldn't hold a candle to the sec,,big 12..and pac-10(huh?)..hell, the big east has more quality teams than big 10..wva..cinn...louisville...i'm DONE sticking up for what i believe in. i'm out numbered by a bunch of sec diehards that are oblivious to the fact that there is a northern tier of the united states....some people seriously believe it is 1865 again........yankee haters!!!!! :box:J/K

I grew up in connecticut, and lived there for 26 years. I do actually follow the connecticut huskies as well. I'm born a yankee, and ALWAYS will be an yankee.

4.5 is slow in the SEC.

Without a doubt, tony. The gators alone have 12 guys on the team that run a 4.4 or better.

Coach Meyer has stated he wants Florida to be the “fastest team in America.” UF has a dozen
players who have clocked a 40-time of 4.4 or less (seven on offense, five on defense). Of UF’s 38
touchdowns this season, 25 have been scored by players that are among the fastest 12 on the team.

I would replace "Pac-10" with "Big 12" in your first statement. Besides USC, the Pac-10 is garbage.

Well - I just meant in the Rose Bowl against SC, they've not even come close the past 2 years. Last year's Rose was f'ing horrible. Unless you are a Condom fan...

Plenny - I have a degree from the SEC, but I'm not an SEC fan in the least.

I'm commenting in that I view the Big 10 as not on of the top tier conferences when it comes to their top team.
Hell the last national title you had took a bad, late call for OSU to win.

I don't doubt the middle teams in the Big 10 are as good, if not better in some years, than the SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10. I believe the Big 11 to be light years better than the ACC, though I could give a sh*t in that I'm not a conference guy.

Really I hate OSU, and always will. They have our 6th national title.

Six-point game, plenny... in which Florida still had a chance with two minutes left. Oh wait, that's right... I actually watch the games I comment on. See... this is just the kind of crap I've come to expect. You've brought up this game a half dozen times in this thread, with the intention of trying to argue that it makes up for all the big games where the SEC crushes their Big Ten opponent. Well, it doesn't plenny... it doesn't. ((sigh))

I repeat:

The SEC leads the Big Ten with a 65-46-2 all-time record.

The SEC has a .584 winning percentage versus the Big Ten.

SEC teams are 33-20 vs the Big Ten in bowl games from 1930 to 2007.

Comment on the bolded font only, please. Kthanxbye.

dood!! a wins a win. 1 point 6 points 20 points...its a Fu#$in win. and i only brought that game up once or twice. it doesn't cease to amaze me that you flame me when i make a valid point. a just hope..seriously hope that alabama is #1 and penn state is #2...come dec/jan...the s#it will be flying then...uh pal.

plenny, if you have the ability to make a valid point, I wish you'd use it! Look, you want everyone here to agree that Penn State is capable of beating Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, USC... and no one here buys it. You also want us to agree with you that the Big Ten is a solid conference, on par with the Big 12 and SEC... and we don't. I go so far as to SHOW you the actual data (which includes your conference's glory days), and you've got nothing. Seriously, it's hard for me to have respect for that. You should take a closer look at jmh80's posts. He's a loyal Miami fan, and he's given a lot to this thread, without the delusion and wishful thinking associated with your drivel.

It's really okay to say, "My team is from a tired conference and really isn't battle-tested. But wow, it would be really cool if their record gives them a shot to prove themselves against a top-tier team in the BCS. They might just have a shot."

Ahhhhh... humility.

Btw... since 1975, your mighty Big Ten kittens are 14-15 against the SEC and 4-8 versus Alabama (0-2 versus the Tide in bowl games). So yeah... you're not the only one wishing for an Bama-Penn State matchup. Either way, it looks like it's going to be an especially sad September 11th for you in 2010. Be sure to stay in touch.

if jmh80's hurricans were ranked #3 and undefeated im sure he'd be talkin $hit too..with that said, rubberring, i respect your knowledge and stats on college football and i really do take all of it in. i know i come off as an arogant penn stater, but i love this style of football (big 10 style)...it is practiced even at the highschool level up here. i do watch sec games and big 12 games and yes, they are fast..but i'd rather watch hard hitting big 10 football..JMO.:dl:

Cool... I can certainly respect that.

Maybe my disdain for the Big Ten comes from my former roommate's love for Michigan. I haven't heard from him in some time now. Hmmm... maybe I should call him and congratulate him on Big Blue's season. :D

I wouldn't tout the ACC. I could care less as to the conference Miami is in. I have no loyalty to any conference - I grew up on UM football when we were an independent.

im scared shitless today. each yr the only game that worries me is the tech game

they have a chip on thier shoulder all the time because they are the bastards of texas

if we can get pressure on harrell like we did with chase daniel we win

if we get no pressure its lights out texas

Texas has to be a lil' exhausted with the level of competition they've seen from week to week, so I can understand your concern. It's hard for a team to "get up" four weeks in a row, so Texas is certainly due for a down game. However, since the Longhorns have shown they can keep up with anyone on offense (even OU), I think this game will come down to who has the better defense. Hey, does Tech have one of those?

Advantage Texas.

Btw... if TT does beat the 'Horns, then I think either Oklahoma St. or Oklahoma will crush them in the coming weeks. Not that it would make you feel any better!

Yesterday, my buddies were making fun of me again in regards to my devotion to college football. (I have to admit, it's a rare attribute in the Bay Area.) Anyway, the conversation ended when one of them asked me:

"If you had to choose between your presidential candidate winning the election... or Bama winning the national championship... which do you choose?"

After the intervention, they offered to check me into rehab.
:(

I said, "Nooo, nooo, no!!!"
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm going with Texas over Tech. I wish I could say I was confident my Dawgs were going to beat UF, but man UF looks good on offense. I truly think the first 15 min. will determine the outcome. If UGA can keep it close in the first quarter, they have a chance. On a side note...Auburn really looks like crap.

UGA-UF is looking like a defensive struggle in the 1st quarter. You're right, Auburn looks terrible on both sides of the ball right now. That's a little scary for me... because a win over Bama in the Iron Bowl would salvage a pathetic season, and allow for Tubbs to keep his job. Losses to Georgia and the Tide would keep them out of a bowl game for the first time since their probation years in the early 90's.

Canes just pulled a f*cking HUGE AZZ WIN in Charlottesville against probably the hottest team in the ACC.

Last minute hail mary type TD to tie, scored first in OT on a nice fade stop, and then caused a fumble from their "guy" - senior RB Cedrie Peerman.

HUGE HUGE HUGE. Bowl eligible, baby!

Betta' recognize what we doing. All the TD's came from freshman. ;)

The weather's so crappy in Berkeley today, the Cal-Oregon game looks like a Big Ten matchup. I gave my tickets to a friend of mine from Oregon. It's practically tropical today to him!

Missed it. What was said?

That basically the game planning on offense wasn't sophisticated thus far for LSU and whomever they meet in Atlanta. That it was "here is the run - try and beat us" and thus far have been able to do that very effectively.

Dunno if I agree with them. Herb was right in picking Miami, and Corso and Bob Knight weren't.

I don't get what you're saying, buddy. Look at my post again. My prediction was that the winner of the UGA-UF game will either win or lose to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Fwiw, Bama's unsophisticated game planning was more than enough against Georgia the first time around. Hey you still have to stop them from imposing their will... and their defense is unforgiving. I'm not guaranteeing a win against LSU, Georgia, or Florida... but Bama won't lose because they're basic.

I didn't read your post that close - thought you said the winner would lose to Bama.

Gotcha. Hey congrats on Miami's win. They've definitely shown improvement this year. I still think the ACC will belong to FSU and the Canes in the coming years. Both teams have a ton of talented freshman. V. Tech's stock is falling, and I'm not convinced Georgia Tech's schemes will continue to work on a consistent basis once the conference adapts to Johnson's offense.

So, what happens when the best team from Conference-USA (who coincidentally is ranked #18 in the BCS poll and has the nation's #1 ranked offense) goes up against the absolute worst team in the SEC?

Ask Tulsa! :toofunny:

wow---I don't think UGA could have played a worse game today. Completely humiliated by UF. Trauma, you'll have to pm me your address and let me say with all sincerity----Eat my balls!!

Trauma is too busy drinking cocktails right now... like a typical Gator fairy!

Florida was dominant today. Hope Bama can finish out and meet them in Atlanta. If so, and Texas loses a game, they should just cancel the BCS crap, and call the SEC Championship what it will be... the real National Championship.

God that was humiliating. Between dropped balls, extremely costly penalties, and bonehead play calls, there was no chance for UGA in that game.

I hope the Tide rolls 'em.

Rubbering, can't believe I'm saying this, but Roll Tide!!!!!

Oh yes it's great, to be, a florida gator........oh yes it's great, to be, a florida gator!!!!!

49-10 - B*tch slap of the dawgs!!!

What a game!!!! I definitely enjoyed watching the gators stomp UGA in the ground. After the bullsh*t last year, revenge was oh so sweet! We had some help in doing so (i think d'em dawgs looked scared myself :p ), but our play on both sides of the ball was very impressive overall.

I wish i could say i was drinking today, but had to give it up for a bit due to my cycle to start tomorrow. Sir savage and ATJ, good game boys...........but the dawgs were swallowed whole by the gator CHOMP today!

In all honesty, the florida defense impressed me more than anything today. My god they are leaps and bounds better than last year! Charlie strong, you are the man sir!

GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:FUfinger: - You hillbilly bama bastard. :p :D

We're one step closer to a Bama/UF matchup in december. I agree, that in itself will/would be the "real" national championship game. :head:

So... should I dare get my hopes up after the Texas loss... or will Penn State or (God forbid) Texas Tech leapfrog my Crimson Tide for the top spot? I certainly don't trust the coaches to do the right thing. Hell, they'll probably have USC at #3 this weekend.

Here's what I can justify:

1. Alabama
2. Penn State
3. Texas Tech (for this week, at least)
4. Florida (should be #2)
5. Texas
6. Oklahoma
7. Oklahoma State
8. USC
9. Boise State
10. TCU

What say you guys?

I can't get too excited yet. November's been an ugly month for Alabama in recent years. Nick Saban's return to Baton Rouge will certainly have LSU pumped up in every way. That's a dangerous game for the Tide.

If Bama wins next weekend though... we'll have our matchup for sure!!!

Go Gators! Roll Tide!

Yeah, buddy! :head:

I have my fingers crossed. I really want to see it happen.

I did buy my annual florida beats georgia t-shirt tonight. The same pic from my earlier post. :D

I'm taking the Pirate to upset Texas tonight.

Guns up - Horns down.

Wrecked.

Watched the game at Pat O's in the French Quarter and ragged the Texas fans after Harrel's NFL quality TD pass to Crabtree. That was one helluva play.

I gotta say right now that the Big 12 has been, hands down, THE most exciting conference this year. Tx-TxTech tonight, Tx-OU a few weeks ago.

I just love the QB's the Big 12 has.

Don't neva sleep on us in the future.
Might have some stumbles this year or next, but in a few years people will look back on the Hurricanes '08 recruiting class with awe.

All our TD's were scored by freshman today.
It's not just that the average class is mostly freshman (like some of the ACC schools that tout that crap - the players that they are rely on are NOT freshman) it's that our best players are frosh and soph's for the most part.

Randy Shannon will one day go down as one of the best Miami coaches in history. Up there with Jimmy Johnson.
