College Football 2008 season

Well, Alabama's personality hasn't changed after a bye week. Utter domination in the first half, and now everything's starting to unravel. Terrence "Mount" Cody, arguably the best defensive lineman in the country, looks like he's out... for the f#@king year. Man, that's the biggest loss Bama could possibly suffer at this point. F#@k!!!!!!

Damn, that was an ugly win. Bama got outplayed and outcoached through the entire second half. Thankfully, the defense stepped up when they needed to. This team really has to learn how to play an entire game with intensity, especially the offense. Every Tide fan knows our QB is second-rate, but the O-line has too much size and talent to not play a full 60 minutes. Frustrating, but oh well... a win's a win in the SEC (Just ask Florida).

I'll tell you what... there isn't a better 3-4 team in the country than Ole Miss. Houston Nutt's teams never quit.

I'm sure this will give the pollsters an opportunity to leapfrog Penn State over Bama, even though Michigan is as weak as they come. If they move ahead of the Tide, I'm really going to be disgusted. Not because I think Alabama completely deserves their ranking, but because Penn State hasn't beaten a currently ranked team... or a team with a winning record, for that matter. (Oregon State and Illinois both have .500 records and both play tonight), and you could never convince me that they can beat a team like Georgia. I usually pull for them, but I have to admit that I hope Ohio State crushes them next weekend. Sorry, but the Nittany Kittens are the ultimate "pretenders" right now, and I do not... I repeat... I DO NOT... want to see another Big Ten team getting massacred in the BCS Championship Game this year.

/ rant. (Be quiet, plenny. No, really...)

ROLL TIDE.

HOLY F#@K!!!! just admit it..you DON'T pull for penn state..your jelous..of them. i watched bama today and the way they played penn state would have destroyed em. on the other hand, penn state looked like s%#t for the 1st qtr and a half against michigan who were hungry. by the 2nd half it was all penn state. a penn state team that would have ate the crimson "died" and sh$# them out on any fu#@in SEC team. BIG 10 COUNTRY IS NORTH COUNTRY. btw ilinois was ranked so was wisconsin and so was michigan first week of season..we'll prove it next week in OHIO ST.

penn state in the top 10 in total offense, total defense, and points per game....no other team can boast that..not even an sec team.

Those have to be the stupidest things you've said in this thread... and that's an accomplishment. I'm not even going to try to explain it to you in baby terms.

Penn State wouldn't score 14 points against Bama's defense. Ole Miss defeated Florida in The Swamp. Do you think PSU can hang with Florida? If you truly do, you flat-out lack intelligence.

plenny, I don't know if you've figured it out yet, but most people outside of the midwest have no respect for your piss-poor conference. We're really tired of weak-ass Big Ten teams who have no competition, no conference championship, and a commissioner who doesn't want to ruin a good thing by having a playoff system.

You used to humor me... much like a retarded child. Now, you've just become annoying. Go celebrate your huge win.

Bottom 14 as far as strength of schedule through last week's games... No wonder certain teams were/are still undefeated!

Keep singing the praise of an inferior team. I hope yet again the SEC proves your clowns are nothing more than laughable, yet again!

Penn state........champs that beat up on has beens.....

UF, UGA, or BAMA would absolutely destroy your penn state flukes. I can only hope yet again the SEC proves that fact.....

and you call me annoying...WTF do ya call this...there is no such thing as schedule strength anymore..anybody can beat anybody these days..granite, alot of schools in the "sec" and big 12 and yes big 10, are balooned to be the best because of recruiting high school all americans, while the small (inferior) schools get the overlooked kids who are smaller and sometimes pan out better than the all-americans. with that said, i believe some schools deserve more respect than they really get. i know alot of penn states games were easy esp. out side of conf. except for oreg. st. who is better than most think. in conf. illionois, ohio st. and mich st. when they are on can even hang with the "big dogs" in the SEC...jmo

LSU, SC was a little closer than I thought it would be. Their LSU's offense reallyd doesn't impress me. The UGA game should be a good one next week. I think it's all gonna come down to the UGA/UF game the week after. I think the winner of that one takes the SEC championship. No offense to Alabama.

As far as Penn. State, I could see them leapfrogging Alabama, and it would be a shame. Texas, on the other hand, looks very strong right now. The first BCS will be interesting, as I think there might be a bit of a shake-up within the top ten. Alot of computers don't agree with the human polls.

I think LSU might have a decent chance of winning on the 25th.

More Trouble for Bulldogs?

October 19, 2008

With depth at key positions growing dangerously thin, there's no doubt that Georgia coach Mark Richt has his fingers crossed as his Bulldogs get ready to hit the most arduous stretch of their 2008 campaign.
Saturday, Georgia travels to Baton Rouge to take on defending national champion LSU, followed by the long-awaited rematch Nov. 1 against Florida in Jacksonville.

The offensive line and defensive interior are two of those positions in uncertain straits.

Injuries have wreaked havoc with assistant Stacy Searel's offensive front, as the Bulldogs are playing their fourth left tackle since the start of preseason. There are also issues on the defensive line, and after some off-the-field news Saturday, the situation appears to be getting worse.

Backup defensive tackle Brandon Wood was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with allegedly driving without headlights and DUI. Wood's total bond was set at $1,750. He remained in the Athens Clarke-County jail as of 9:30 Sunday morning.

In a separate incident, injured left tackle Vince Vance was arrested Saturday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. for allegedly driving without a license. He was released on a $500 bond.

The two were the 10th and 11 Bulldogs to be arrested since January, although charges against three – Jeremy Lomax, Trinton Sturdivant and Justin Anderson – were subsequently dropped. Richt was not immediately available for comment.

Vance was one of four Bulldogs to play left tackle before tearing the ACL in his right knee last week against Tennessee.

If Wood is suspended for any period of time, it would leave Georgia with just five defensive tackles – Geno Atkins, Corvey Irvin, Kade Weston, Ricardo Crawford and DeAngelo Tyson available for Saturday's game against LSU, and depending on an apparent injury to Weston, it may be only four. Weston did not play in Saturday's 24-14 win over Vanderbilt.

It's been that kind of year for the Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1).

Along with losing starting left tackle Sturdivant and defensive tackle Jeff Owens for the year, injuries have forced the Bulldogs have at different times this year to be without their starting fullback in Brandon Southerland (four games), starting tight end Tripp Chandler (two games), backup tight end Bruce Figgins (two games), starting Mike linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (two games), wide receiver Kris Durham (two games) and backup safety Quintin Banks (seven games).

not cool man!!! you crossed the line.

plenny, you know I'm just messin' with you. I'm a teacher with special ed students, so I was trying to be ironical.

I completely disagree with you about strength of schedule though. Yes, there is parody in college football, but if a team isn't consistently challenged week to week, how can we know if they're as strong as their record boasts? I'm not talking about "fluke" games like USC-Oregon State. Everyone knows that if they played 5 times this season, the Trojans would take 4 of them. Texas has had two back-to-back games against top competition, and they blew them both away. Alabama took care of Georgia. What big win has Penn State had? You're ONLY challenge is next week against a team who has been embarrassed in the last two nat'l championship games (and against USC). This is a rebuilding year for them and they're playing a freshman QB. That's your team's big game this year.

plenny, if strength of schedule doesn't matter, let's put Tulsa at #1, since they have the #1 offense in almost every category. We'll put Ball State in the top 5 while we're at it. Does that sound logical?

Oh, and the new polls just came out. Penn State's still #3. Have you ever asked yourself why they're ranked behind Alabama, when PSU was ranked ahead of them at the start of the season, and they have one more win than Bama? Answer: Strength of schedule!

Penn State's stats look excellent... because of their schedule. Big Ten defenses are sad this year. SEC defenses are incredibly strong this year. Penn State looks fast... but they'd look like they were in slow motion against a Florida, Georgia, or Alabama. In fact, I think they'd struggle to score against South Carolina, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky, although those teams aren't equipped offensively. On the flip side, PSU hasn't seen an offense like Florida, Georgia, or Alabama. So, their padded stats would disintegrate by the 2nd quarter.

Look, a win's a win. Stats mean nothing anyway. But I'll say it again: I don't want to see Penn State win out on their cake walk schedule and sit around for 5-6 weeks waiting on the BCS Championship Game. They will get their asses handed to them if they have to play a Big 12 or SEC team.

If you want to continue to disagree with me, just ask yourself honestly if Penn State can beat the following teams. I'll even leave out Bama:

Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
USC (forget your Oregon State logic)

I don't think Penn State could even play those four teams close.

Just my $0.02... retard. :D J/K

Hey, I don't know if you guys ever visit this site, but you can run reports to see the voter breakdown for all of the polls. You can see exactly how each pollster has voted in the AP Poll. For example, you can find out which knucklehead has Florida ranked 9th (wtf?), and who says Penn State should be ranked #5 (no wtf).

pollspeak.com (use the "pollstalker" feature to see poll/team/voter breakdown)

Today's BCS Rankings:

1. Texas (In complete agreement)
2. Alabama
3. Penn State
4. Oklahoma
5. USC (What?)
6. Oklahoma State
7. Georgia
8. Texas Tech (Huh?)
9. Ohio State
10. Florida (Dude... W-T-F ???)

How in the world can they place USC that high? Florida lost to a good team from a solid conference by one point... and they are 10th?

I'm happy my team is at #2... but this BCS system is a complete farce.

I seriously choked on my coffee when i saw where florida was ranked, unreal man. I'm headed up to the kentucky game next week, so it should be fun.

Great website you posted as well. :D

Yeah man, I don't get it. It's ludicrous to have teams like Texas Tech and Ohio State ahead of the Gators. In fact, neither one of those teams should be in the top 10. Tech can't play defense, and Ohio State got blown out in their loss. I'd place LSU and Boise State ahead of them both!

Btw... if you can't already tell, this is the point in the season where I stop hating on other SEC teams (except for maybe Auburn!). It's conference play from here on out, and the two best teams will inevitably meet in the SEC Championship. I hope it's Bama and Florida... but who the hell knows? Either way, I want... no, I NEED a Big 12 - SEC matchup in the BCS title game, no matter who it is. Bama's already overachieved, so the rest is just gravy from here on out. They weren't even ranked 8 weeks ago.

You still have tickets for Game 7? If so, you've got a great sporting week ahead of you! Have fun!

More ridiculous rankings. How is OK State and USC ranked ahead of UGA?!?!

And Ohio State, Texas Tech, plus the afforementioned (except UGA, of course) ahead of Florida?!?!

BTW, I've had 'gater a few times. Tasted like chicken. :food:

I figured UGA for around number 7, the computers have liked them.....but UF # 10? and USC who got handled by an unranked team at number 5? OK State and Texas Tech.....play some real teams first.

And does anyone play defense in the Big 12 anymore?? Just curious...

No, they don't. That's why I still think the SEC is a lil' ahead of the Big 12, but not by much. That would be my only criticism of Texas. They have playmakers on defense, but if Colt ever has an off game against one of these high-scoring Big 12 offenses, they could be in trouble. But then again, an "off" game for him would be completing only 65% of his passes!

Texas Tech is a complete joke. They almost lost to Nebraska, and Texas A&M gave them fits. However, I'm hesitant to dismiss Oklahoma State at this point. I don't know... call it a feeling. They have a chance to prove themselves against the Longhorns this weekend. We'll see. (So many "I'm a man! I'm forty!" jokes running through my mind right now. :toofunny:)

I love me some SEC football!!! Go Bulldogs! Go Gators! Geaux Tigers! Roll Tide!

Uh Gates lost to an un-ranked team at home. Not any better than USC in that regard. Both should be about 9/10.

STRENGTH OF SCHEDUEL...????

ALABAMA...tulane..w.kentucky..(watch out for ark. st)
GEORGIA....georgia south(huh?)..central mich...arizona st.
LSU...n.texas...troy(please!)..app.st.(1aa)..tulane

Dude, do you really not get it? Every team plays a few patsies... but your entire conference is made up of them! Besides OSU, your "tough" conference games are against Illinois (4-3) and Wisconsin (2-5), for Christ's sake! On top of that you play Coastal Carolina! Meanwhile Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Alabama (all ranked) are busy beating up on each other.

You only wish it was about cold weather. Do you really wanna argue Big 10 vs. SEC??? Did you watch the last two national championship games? How many Big 10 teams are ranked? How many SEC teams are ranked? BIG difference, huh?

Your point-of-view and your conference suck. Go away.

And if OSU beats Penn State this weekend... you will never hear the end of it from me. Oh, and if Penn State wins... big deal.

(Btw... I noticed you completely dodged my question from post #663. That's okay, we all know Penn State can't hang with the big boys. That's why there's a large gap between the #2 and #3 BCS rankings this week.)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to austink3417 again.

So, I read today that the Big Ten are planning to rename their conference... since they finally realized they have eleven inept teams in all. I've conferred with Trauma1 and austink3417 and here's what we've come up with:

Miniature Eleven
Pygmy Eleven
Little-bitty Eleven
Half-pint Eleven
Pocket-sized Eleven

or...

Elfin Eleven
:toofunny::toofunny::toofunny::toofunny::toofunny::toofunny:

Let's put it to a vote. From now on plenny, I vote that your conference will be known as the Elfin Eleven.

All in favor, say "aye."

I missed that Saturday as well. I give props to the ref. He saw a shot comin' and delivered one of his own!!! That's classic.

Btw... I'll take that as an "aye."

I just have to say that I was in the midtown Houston BW3's last Saturday for a while (right up until Mizzou-Texas - started to get way too packed so I left).

Anyway - the most retardedly obnoxious group of fans were about 7 or 8 from Penn St. There was another group on the other side of the restaurant that was the same from what I could hear.

Never have I ever heard a group clap and cheer for a special teams tackle. I was informed by my Big 10 buddy that is common place in JoePa valley.

I heard cheering when they showed JoePa peaking his head out the booth he was in.
(Que the WTF icon.)

Anyway - thought I'd just throw that one out there.

if you asked me that last year i would say no to all of them. this year yes..except i havent really seen texas play yet this year. and usc( talk about a weak conf.) depends on which team shows up. but put any of those teams in Beaver Stadium on a brisk november night..then psu hands down...holla!!:aargh:

Thanks for the update man, I will try to check in here, so there is another big 10 fan, I love all big 10 schools.

The Big 10 should bring in Notre Dame and maybe Western Kentucky or something so they can at least have a championship game.

And they need to work much harder at recruiting out of the south.

Otherwise, continual weaksauce.

Definitely agree.

I posted earlier in this thread about the fact that the Elfin Eleven's commissioner, along with the ADs from schools like Ohio State, are responsible for the BCS's current form. They completely oppose a conference championship or a playoff system, because it would basically eliminate their chances of having a team in the big game.

Meanwhile, the SEC and Big 12, hands down the two best conferences in college ball, both play a conference championship and are pro-playoff.

To me, that says it all.

Oh, and who won the last three BCS championships, and four out of the last five? You got it... teams from the SEC and Big 12.

Yeah, I said that previously.

Of course, a playoff system would fix that... but Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney won't let that happen. Ohio State president Gordon Gee was recently quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as saying, "They will wrench a playoff system out of my cold, dead hands."

Hey, I'm all for tradition. I've been to a few Rose Bowls... but my ultimate take on it is that the Big Ten and Pac-10 need to get over themselves. The times, they are a-changin'. The best Rose Bowl ever was USC-Texas a few years back, and no one outside of Michigan and Ohio minded one bit! The one high-profile guy affiliated with the Big Ten who's pro-playoff is Joe Paterno. That man is all about tradition, but he understands the word "progress."

Dude - re: the Beaver Stadium at night comment, seriously. I heard all that crap back in 2001 - not to mention adding Adam Telefario running with the team out for the first time since he broke his neck.

You know what happened when we showed up.

I like parts of your team this year, but that stadium isn't bullet proof for you guys.

About that Linebacker U stuff - who's done jack sh*t in the NFL in the last 10 or 15 years from Penn State??
Back when Shane Colon was around - yeah, I'd give you guys that.
But seriously - I don't see why that title should remain since about 1990. Prove me wrong, broski.
