College Football 2008 season

I absolutely agree that texas deserves #1 after their game. They looked VERY solid. Oklahoma looked fantastic as well. Bradford looks damn good all around.

I think the gators should have been 3 or 4 after that blowout of a #3 team in LSU, but they have many more opportunities to continue to build their case in the end.

Trauma1, I thought you knew... I do it to irritate you. Why else? (No really, I thought you knew.) :run:

I've been irritated enough at work today with drunkard morons from the bucs game. Oh don't worry, i enjoy irritating you as well. I'm just too damn tired today, raincheck? ;)

I'm really going to try to get up to the UGA/UF game. I think it will be a showdown of epic proportion.

I seriously love watching demps and rainey become the playmakers they have in the last few weeks. These 2 kids have some serious speed and moves. It was good to see florida attack from many different angles in the run game, and the pass game. They clearly didn't look one dimentional at all last night.

The SEC has some huge battles that lie ahead, this should be a very interesting season.

Trauma, you said "up" to the game. That makes me think you are somewhere down here in S. Florida. If so, where about?

Agreed (not picking on you, plenny). I don't think Penn State would match up well with Texas, Bama, Florida, or USC. In some cases, it would just get ugly.

lets see......usc + oregon st.= loss
psu + oregon st= win

dont even get me started on florida..tebow isnt half of what he was a year ago..and ol'miss..come on.:toofunny:

plenny, that's a hell of a statement. Got a link for your info? If you're talking football, Penn State isn't even in the top 10. You can't be talking about overall student-athlete grad rates, because Navy, Stanford, Boston College, Northwestern, Notre Dame, etc. all have higher rankings. I won't even entertain that you're talking overall grad rates (athlete or not).

Grad rates for student-athletes (overall and by sport)

Overall grad rates (Northwestern and Duke are up there)

as of 2006...they have a grad rate (football) of 83% tied for third...i'm sorry i was told it was first. anyway heres the website.

trust me, I am not sticking up for the sec by any means, but I think you have to be drunk. Or maybe I'm drunk, actually, I must be to say this, but i think FL. is the best team in the SEC. They just have a different quality of athletes. As for Penn State, they would get destroyed by Florida. I mean fukkin destroyed. Hell, I think we could give them a run.

Here's my top 10, with reasoning included:

1. Texas (Tough schedule the next few weeks)
2. Alabama (See Texas comments)
3. Penn State (Sitting pretty, but really still untested)
4. Oklahoma State (Undefeated and beat Missouri)
5. Oklahoma (Only loss is to #1)
6. Missouri (Close conference loss to top 10 team)
7. Georgia (Only loss is to #2)
T8. USC (Lost to an unranked team, but still strong)
T8. Florida (See USC comments)
10. Ohio State (Curious to see them against Penn State)

No, I wouldn't even consider Texas Tech, BYU, or Utah.

I think you're counting chickens WAY too early here. I hope you're seriously kidding about florida, or any SEC team for that matter.

ohhhhhhhhhhh ****!!!!! you want to bring up grad. rates of football players????? Fukk, do FSU football players even graduate?

UF, UGA, or BAMA would all blowout PSU imo. In fact i agree, FSU would give them a good game.

Raincheck! Florida really was impressive yesterday. I told you I was pulling for them. Bama will need all the help they can get in the West, and LSU and Auburn losing was huge..

Hey... maybe you Florida fans should pay me to pull for the Gators. I'm really effective! :p

So Texas should leapfrog over an undefeated SEC team from #5 to the top spot. Okay, I'm not going to argue there. But then, shouldn't Oklahoma State be ranked ahead of Florida? They beat a #3 team yesterday, and they're undefeated.

Here's my top 10, with reasoning included:

1. Texas (Tough schedule the next few weeks)
2. Alabama (See Texas comments)
3. Penn State (Sitting pretty, but really still untested)
4. Oklahoma State (Undefeated and beat Missouri)

You seriously have to be kidding me? You would have florida at #8? Bro, i think your hatorade for florida is clearly clouding your judgement here.

Oklahoma State played a fine game in their win, but they certainly didn't blow out Missouri by any stretch of the imagination. Florida clearly dismantled the #4 team by a large margin, so yes, i do think Florida should be ranked ahead of Oklahoma State. They displayed their vast talent and potential in a very convincing way last night imo.

UF, UGA, or BAMA would all blowout PSU imo. In fact i agree, FSU would give them a good game.

did any of you ever even watch a penn state this year? im a die hard fan obviously, but i would be talkin sh#$ and posting on here everyday if i didnt think they were a poss. nat'l champ. contender. this IS the best penn state offense i seen possibly ever. 1994..1999..2005 were good ones, but this year is "different" penn state football. Jopa was a sucker for the running game pass on third down. now with an atheletic Quarterback and 3-4 very good wideouts and 2 quality rb's..the spread off. is putting up an avg of 40pts a game. the d-fence is what it is at penn state..although not as potent as the past 3 years but still getting the job done. espn..big 10 net. all said they are "surprised" how good this offense is and are potential nat'l champ. contenders..we passed the illinois test, we passed the wisconsin test (on the road) now ohio state on the road...(my biggest fear all season) if we play like we played wisc. we will def. beat ohio st. as for the sec and big 12..i respect those conf. they have the best recruits in the nation..the florida's..georgia's and texas' and oklahoma's are usually among the nation's best. i've watched texas play and i watched florida play and i am convinced that penn state, albeit not as fast as those mentioned can hold their own and poss. win. sorry just my 2 pennies.

Why? You want in, Semenole?:D
(Okay, that was just gross. Sorry.)

I was going to let this go, but are you kidding me? We beat you last year and we fukkin sucked, and honestly, your only tough opponent this year has been Georgia. You haven't faced anyone else. Clemson is a joke. I don't think you guys are as good as you think. We'll see.

It's not me, you are drunk. J/k. but your conference sucks as does mine

Tebow doesn't have to be half of what he was a year ago. That is what is so scary about the UF we saw last night- it ain't just Tebow anymore. It's a WHOLE lot more.

And I would pick Ole Miss to beat 3/4 of the teams in the Big 10.

Oh man!! Mizzou and Oklahoma State over my 'Dawgs???

Someone explain to me why USC is ranked higher than UGA.

They lose to an unranked Oregon Freakin' State, yet they remain at 6. We lose to the Crimson Tide, a MUCH stronger team, and we sit at 10.

Did I mention that I hate this system?

Agreed, the system sucks!

Btw - I've received my annual UF/UGA smack talk t-shirt today. :) It's going to be a hell of a cocktail party this year!

Who didn't beat Alabama last year? Loisiana-Monroe beat them! For the record, I've said more than once that I'm amazed that Bama's 6-0 at this point. I DON'T think it will last, but I'm hoping. You're right about Clemson... but you're not taking into consideration that the UA game got into their heads and exposed their offensive weaknesses in a major way. Psychologically, Tommy's boys are hosed.

Btw, my 2nd favorite team was always FSU growing up.

I apologize if my teasing was taken for arrogance.

DISCLAIMER: Hey guys, my rankings are based on performance up to this point... NOT on who I think would win head-to-head. If that were the case, Penn State would have to switch places with Florida, and Georgia would be in the top 5!

T1. Texas
T1. Alabama (wishful thinking factored in)
T1. Florida (I admit it)
4. Georgia (jury's still out)
5. USC (no heart unless the pressure's on)
6. Oklahoma (choke way too often)
7. Missouri
8. Penn State
9. Ohio State
10. Boise State (???)

Alright, it seems as if I've offended a few of you, so I'm offering a sincere apology. I'm a HUGE prankster by nature, and I think my button-pushing has come across as pompousness.

Trauma1: I've been way too pissy with you... but it's all a joke. I'm not a Gator-hater... I just play one on TV. Tebow's a proven winner, and I know they're a really dangerous team.

plenny: I like Penn State, if only for their uniforms. Seriously, I always pull for them. I was just being honest about whether I think they can hang in the SEC or Big 12.

austink3417: Sorry if my comments seemed arrogant. It's been a looooong time since there's been anything to cheer about pertaining to Bama's football program. Being an FSU fan, I know you can relate. I'm just talkin' smack... mostly to irritate the Florida fans.

My comments on this thread are all in fun. I KNOW the day will come (perhaps this coming weekend) when the 'Bama bubble' will burst. Don't think I don't take in to consideration that you guys are gonna hammer me when it does! All in all, I'm a college football fan, no matter who ends up on top... unless it's a team like BYU... then I'll start watching soccer or something.

Anyway guys, I apologize for my "button-pushing" in this thread. I'm just being an instigator of sorts.

dude, don't apologize. you're going to ruin all the fun. anyone not passionate about their team shouldn't post here. its college football!!! talk **** if you're team is doing good. fukk, if the noles were where they were years ago, i'd be in everyone's face in a very offensive way. do it while you can:thumbsup: people will get fired up but that's the point.

I can't believe they didn't move a little higher. I figured they might come in at 8 this week. On a positive note, if they can manage to win out, they'll be sitting pretty, especially with the jump UF took this week. I think that LSU/UF game more exposed LSU than proved UF. (no offense Trauma) Anyway, the UGA/UF game is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the series.

Cool guys... I just wanted to make sure you know where I'm coming from. This has been a nice smack-talk outlet for me. Living in the Bay Area, it's hard to find guys who know what real college football is all about. A few of my Cal friends are starting to realize there are much bigger games than the "Big Game" (Cal-Stanford), but they still have a ways to go!

So, that being said...

What is up with these weak-ass Florida teams?

Blah, Blah, Blah......where's your title though "champ"?

I've seen FAR more SEC teams that have claimed that in recent times. I'd personally love to see penn state in the SEC. They wouldn't come out even above .500 imo. You guys beat a pathetic wisconsin team, congrats on that.

I think your aspirations are VERY premature. UF, UGA, or even BAMA (god help me) would seriously embarass them. Enjoy your time in the sun, it's more than likely about to be eclipsed by the superior talent that is the SEC.....

Washington State definitely takes the title for "worst team in the PAC-10" this year. Stanford, Washington, and UCLA all look like venerable powerhouses next to this group. So far, they've lost 66-3 to Cal, 63-14 to Oregon, and 66-13 to Oregon State. Up next... USC. I'll take the Trojans minus the 42 points, please. D'oh!

if i wasnt mistaken, that pathetic wisconsin team was ranked pretty high early in the season. we have a weak michigan team at home this week. then ohio st. on the road the following week.

And.....we all know the ranking system is often a joke at times. I was never in the slightest impressed by wisconsin's play this year. Why they were ranked as high as they were is beyond me.

Ohio state is their test. We shall see.

Well, here we go. We haven't had much luck on Thurs. night or with N.C. State but I don't give a **** about that. I feel an ass whoopin coming for the wolf pack.

Anybody hear that loud thud earlier tonight? That was BYU's BCS dreams crashing down on them. Thank God. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now... let's just hope the Fightin' Mormons can do the same to Utah at the end of the year.

I know, right? I hate it when FSU pulls out a win! Mother@#$%ing A$$h#@es!!!

:duel: i think of something witty later. i planned on sticking to like 4 beers for the game but the way we were playing got a hold of me. 4 beers left of an 18 pack in the fridge. those **** suckers just can't go out and beat a ****ing team. they have to make it a game. i loved it when bobby went after the ref at half time though

Yeah, it was classic that the sideline reporter chick put the mic in Bowden's face and then moved it over to the ref to get his response! It's great seeing old timers like Bobby and Joe Pa goin' off on the zebras.

As for the beer... that will most likely be my experience tomorrow!

Hello my fellow college football fans. The gators have a bye week, so i'll be spending my time at an oktoberfest gathering tomorrow, followed by watching my sox prove yet again they are the comeback kids of the postseason.

Even better news, if there is a game 7, i was able to score tickets and will be going. This week it's all.....GO SOX!!
